I have been looking for a game like this for a long time. A in-browser game with decent graphics and great gameplay. I also love how roads are free and they go in between buildings, so roads don't waste space (I like making my city look nice). Also the fact that it is a very new game really makes me want to stay. Normally I hop into games like this with people already at the max level, and here I am a small village when some dingus comes and plunders my stuff. Its heart-wrenching.
Well....I have been palying Settlers since 12 yrs ago! I can't believe you created a browser version of it still!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One bad characteristic is: TOO ADDICTIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am enjoying the game so far. The community seems very friendly .
The game is very similar to others but I see alot of potential for innovation.
I like the speed of the game but I am a rather casual player at this time.
I noticed other games similar to this often deal with the speed of the game issue with different
servers that run at different world speeds, perhaps this will be implemented in the future in order to satisfy
the differents likes of the various players.
Well thats my 2 cents worth for now.
Thanks to the moderators and developers for creating an enjopyable game.
First day was great, level up, get goodies, new builds, lots of fun... Get to level 16, and the grind sets in... hours of making resources and making troops to invade camps and get the xp to level up.. Took several hours and how happy I was to finally get to 17... The new quest to get to 18? More of the same. Attack more camps for xp......OMG... As far as I know, you get no xp for building your hardwood and marble industry at this point.. only for attacking... So now after another day of making troops, I find myself leaving the game for long periods of time...This idle time , away from Castle Empire, only makes me want to search the net for games that are more exciting for more than the first day or two... I feel alot of players will leave the game at these levels..The point of a browser game is to keep the player online playing... I have seen way to many players in chat saying they are leaving the game to play another game as they are out of resources or something and cant do anything but sit and watch for the next few hours....NOT the way to keep your players interested in achieving higher levels.. Just something to think about...
Loving the game, could do without level 16 though. Cant wait to get off this bloody island! I admit it though, I'm addicted. That's the first step right?
I am second with this. The game gets very slow once you hit level 16. It takes hours to recruit units and hours to gather resources. Before I played this game, I played Terra Millitaris. The game progress is faster than Castle Empire and you the battle & conquer areas next to you is more exciting. This game has Generals to lead the troop, Terra Millitaris, you have Heroes to lead the troops you can level your Heroes as well.
Overall, the game is very slow, the battle is slow too. It does not make me want to stay with the game as when I have to wait hours to build up armies to invade the next areas.
So I am at level 16 and I still feel like I'm stuck trying to finish the tutorial. Even after coming back from a 6 hour break I don't have the resources for more than 5 min game play, and not enough army for a good 3rd fight. I am left pretty board, wishing I could be initiating multiple fights. After 24 hours, only being able to participate in 2 fights is a bit of a turn off for a new player. In the current state of the game, it will take a new player several days to establish an opinion about the game. I’m not sure what research youhave, but usually only have a 15-30 min window to get peoples interest in your game for the average web game player out there. So you may hit the settlers player fanbase , but you will miss out on a huge general market of gamers that have player similar games but were able to start battles within the first hour or two of playing.
Also when a player first starts the game and several hours into the game they already feel like they need to be using gems, I think they will be left with a bad impression of the game. If the game were live I'd be left with the feeling that the only way to advance at a fun pace is to dump money into the game. While this is intended to some degree, I also feel like there is no advantage I can gain from the game by investing my time into it.
I probably spend ~300 a year on web games, and I've been a developer for a online game company based on micro payments so I've seen all sorts of systems proposed. I don't like the direction of the gem system that is available right now though.
When a browser game doesn't reward my for putting time into it, I play 5-10 min a day and eventually stop playing all together. If I feel like I can actually sit down and play for 1-2 hours and be better off than the guy playing 5-10 min a day I'll be more likely to stick around and invest some money into the game.
In the current state I feel like too much of the progress players can make in the game is gem based and not strategy/time investment based. I'm waiting on resources (mainly stone, then tools). This can be overcome by gems. If I were to buy 1 million gems, and that wasn't my bottleneck, I'd advance, but be left with an unfulfilled feeling of accomplishment. When advancement comes through paying money, there is no real sense of accomplishment. This leaves me bored. If my advancement is due to hard work/smart decisions I would feel more fulfilled by my progress than if I just bought all my resources. Its like playing a game with cheat codes. Sure you beat the game a lot faster, but it leaves you bored sooner and your accomplishment isn't as meaningful. Allowing players to advance through gems is a double edged sword in this way. If too much advantage can be gained through gems, people that initially invest the most, are left with no fulfillment and quit. It’s like a sugar rush for a kid with a big drop off.
I'd prefer more long term rewards, instead of instant gratification rewards. 25% lumber rate for 7 days,30 days 90 days etc. Larger building queue for 7,30,90 days. This is going to keep my playing the game longer too. If I know I still have 10 days left of this boost, I'll feel more obligated to log on and play while I have that boost. Then I'll be more likely to extend it if I've spent all this time building myself up.
too slow.
I absolutely love it. It's a nice change of pace to have a slow, relaxed sort of game compared to the manic kind of games I normally play. That said, I would love if some of the slower gathering resources gathered a bit faster. Maybe it's just the stage I'm in before my town gets larger but as it is now, it takes an incredible amount of time to get a decent amount of stone together to build with.
