Hey everyone,
We were just wondering how you are liking the game so far. Give us some feedback! We are eager to hear both your praise and horror stories!
I'm not sure how to move around in the game...did I miss something?
Hey Katealyst, great game and hope I can help you out. I have many feedback points, and more to come, but I'd like to see an exclusive feedback section in the forums
It's pretty neat! Reminds me of Anno
Very similar to all the other games I have played of this genre. Hopefully this game will have innovative features added in upcoming updates.
I like the game, but as said in another thread, I feel like lvl 1 to 16 is REALLY fast, than it's a real wall... I would like a quick maybe 1-10 progression, than something smoother.
So far I think it's an enjoyable experience. The community thus far is pretty friendly. Things will start to heat up when PVP becomes a reality I'll bet. It would be nice to have a graph showing economy, military and so on.
OH, explorer is back. I have to send him out on a hunt for treasure!
I am liking the game too.
One Suggestion on battle reports from attacking Bandits (and presumably players once pvp is enabled).
Can you you have the report say something about how much Experience you gained.
Right now it just says "Your troops have fought a valient battle. Click the button below to see a replay."
Instead it would be nice if it said something like "Your troops fough a valiant battle earning you 20 Experience. Click the button below to see a replay."
Oh, I had an idea. How about offering people some gems for following castle empires on Facebook and liking it on Twitter? Or is it the other way around? Been so long since I used dramabook. I quit Facebook almost 2 years ago, and want nothing to do with Twitter, but other people seem to enjoy them. ;)
I really like the game. It feels similar, if not exactly like the Settlers, and I like the resource exchange and large variety of buildings. I hope that it's not like the games Zynga creates that are fun to begin, but soon turn into either a race to get as many friends as possible, or requires so many gems to be purchased that it will break your pocketbook.
Fantastic game! Reminds me of Settlers 2, the best game of the series...
It's been good, great graphic on browser. At start, don't know the info that resource gathering put close to the source, and prod. close to the storehouse (since sometime u can gather the resource and go straight to the prod. facilities instead of going to storehouse 1st)
some bugs here and there - expected since it's still close beta -
- One time is it doesn't level after completing quest, didn't know what to do, so build around some random stuff :p, but later on after trying log out and log back in - it solves the prob.
- sometime it pop up random number other than the actual number - like: building license shows 75, back to normal after building, in inventory it shows 100 hard wood, but after putting in mayor house, it says 50 hard wood (the actual is 50) was expecting got 100 XD haha
still have a lot of game mechanics that r not understood - i.e: aoe of building does it exist? like woodcutter, and wood planter - do they just do it only close to them?
still have a lot of space for improvement :) esp. in resource management - and something like- to know who are the ppl who help buff u up, how long they still have left in effect (or these are the thing will available later on once have guild?)
Will we be able to fight each other eventually?
Really enjoying the game so far Katie, thanks for the help in getting here!
However, I keep losing connection to the server, get booted and have to refresh the client. Any tips or suggestions?
I really like the game so far, been at it for about an hour. It gets you started easy with the quests just like the PC game. It would be nice to have the soundtrack of the PC game in the browser version.
I'm sticking with the game.. however this haul to level 17 is quite long and slow.....Not sure how many will put the dedication inot making the long stretch...
I just took my first sector and now still have 1600 more pts to level..
It's fun, it runs well, and it looks pretty good (especially once it became clear how to scroll). However, the pacing seems to be see-sawing. I feel as if I can't play this continuously without playing Fallout or browsing Reddit or something in between events. It'll eat up 5 minutes, but then it's another hour or two waiting around for enough resources to advance another 5 minutes.
PVP would naturally make some sort of speed slider out of the question, but I think something needs to give as far as the speed of the game.
Am enjoying the game a lot. However as other have mentioned already the pace is a bit slow! Also it would be nice to be able to get more gems from levelling up, it might help with the pace.
I like it so far. I will not try to point out what is right about it, but instead try to point out some flaws (in my view). It's a good game, and I will have to be picky and point out things I believe can improve.
As has been said, it feels a little slow (I'm only just beginning), and I will stick with it because I want this to be fun. But if I had just come across it, I might have given up on it, seeing that it seems designed to drag out time as much as possible. I am writing here as I am "playing." I suppose that is what is different when comparing private games (like Settlers IV) and community online games these days: since we need to gain "levels", a building game becomes infinitely long (as opposed to building, completing, and starting a "new" game). So far, I have to say, I prefer games that don't allow me to go make dinner while playing. But I know it's beta. But there must be a different formula that would work to keep people coming back (and being social, if that is the point).
Minor bugs; building description. Also, my men walk funny. Sometimes one man, to get from point A to B will walk, then run, then walk in place for a while, then walk at normal speed again. Maybe encourage road building by increasing walking speed on roads (even if by a tiny percentage), and keeping that speed constant? Maybe it's my computer or connection, but I have slow response to zooming and for buildings I want to construct (they take a while before they show up so I can place them). Also, perhaps a chat/news window that is less "in the way" when I want it to be?
That's it for now. I'm only level seven, so this is my feedback and my suggestions so far. Thanks for working so hard on the game and the beautiful graphics.
I like the game. I have settlers 7: path to a kingdom. this game seems a little more user friendly than path to a kingdom
I have been looking for a game like this for a long time. A in-browser game with decent graphics and great gameplay. I also love how roads are free and they go in between buildings, so roads don't waste space (I like making my city look nice). Also the fact that it is a very new game really makes me want to stay. Normally I hop into games like this with people already at the max level, and here I am a small village when some dingus comes and plunders my stuff. Its heart-wrenching.
Well....I have been palying Settlers since 12 yrs ago! I can't believe you created a browser version of it still!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One bad characteristic is: TOO ADDICTIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am enjoying the game so far. The community seems very friendly .
The game is very similar to others but I see alot of potential for innovation.
I like the speed of the game but I am a rather casual player at this time.
I noticed other games similar to this often deal with the speed of the game issue with different
servers that run at different world speeds, perhaps this will be implemented in the future in order to satisfy
the differents likes of the various players.
Well thats my 2 cents worth for now.
Thanks to the moderators and developers for creating an enjopyable game.
First day was great, level up, get goodies, new builds, lots of fun... Get to level 16, and the grind sets in... hours of making resources and making troops to invade camps and get the xp to level up.. Took several hours and how happy I was to finally get to 17... The new quest to get to 18? More of the same. Attack more camps for xp......OMG... As far as I know, you get no xp for building your hardwood and marble industry at this point.. only for attacking... So now after another day of making troops, I find myself leaving the game for long periods of time...This idle time , away from Castle Empire, only makes me want to search the net for games that are more exciting for more than the first day or two... I feel alot of players will leave the game at these levels..The point of a browser game is to keep the player online playing... I have seen way to many players in chat saying they are leaving the game to play another game as they are out of resources or something and cant do anything but sit and watch for the next few hours....NOT the way to keep your players interested in achieving higher levels.. Just something to think about...
Loving the game, could do without level 16 though. Cant wait to get off this bloody island! I admit it though, I'm addicted. That's the first step right?
I am second with this. The game gets very slow once you hit level 16. It takes hours to recruit units and hours to gather resources. Before I played this game, I played Terra Millitaris. The game progress is faster than Castle Empire and you the battle & conquer areas next to you is more exciting. This game has Generals to lead the troop, Terra Millitaris, you have Heroes to lead the troops you can level your Heroes as well.
Overall, the game is very slow, the battle is slow too. It does not make me want to stay with the game as when I have to wait hours to build up armies to invade the next areas.
So I am at level 16 and I still feel like I'm stuck trying to finish the tutorial. Even after coming back from a 6 hour break I don't have the resources for more than 5 min game play, and not enough army for a good 3rd fight. I am left pretty board, wishing I could be initiating multiple fights. After 24 hours, only being able to participate in 2 fights is a bit of a turn off for a new player. In the current state of the game, it will take a new player several days to establish an opinion about the game. I’m not sure what research youhave, but usually only have a 15-30 min window to get peoples interest in your game for the average web game player out there. So you may hit the settlers player fanbase , but you will miss out on a huge general market of gamers that have player similar games but were able to start battles within the first hour or two of playing.
Also when a player first starts the game and several hours into the game they already feel like they need to be using gems, I think they will be left with a bad impression of the game. If the game were live I'd be left with the feeling that the only way to advance at a fun pace is to dump money into the game. While this is intended to some degree, I also feel like there is no advantage I can gain from the game by investing my time into it.
I probably spend ~300 a year on web games, and I've been a developer for a online game company based on micro payments so I've seen all sorts of systems proposed. I don't like the direction of the gem system that is available right now though.
When a browser game doesn't reward my for putting time into it, I play 5-10 min a day and eventually stop playing all together. If I feel like I can actually sit down and play for 1-2 hours and be better off than the guy playing 5-10 min a day I'll be more likely to stick around and invest some money into the game.
In the current state I feel like too much of the progress players can make in the game is gem based and not strategy/time investment based. I'm waiting on resources (mainly stone, then tools). This can be overcome by gems. If I were to buy 1 million gems, and that wasn't my bottleneck, I'd advance, but be left with an unfulfilled feeling of accomplishment. When advancement comes through paying money, there is no real sense of accomplishment. This leaves me bored. If my advancement is due to hard work/smart decisions I would feel more fulfilled by my progress than if I just bought all my resources. Its like playing a game with cheat codes. Sure you beat the game a lot faster, but it leaves you bored sooner and your accomplishment isn't as meaningful. Allowing players to advance through gems is a double edged sword in this way. If too much advantage can be gained through gems, people that initially invest the most, are left with no fulfillment and quit. It’s like a sugar rush for a kid with a big drop off.
I'd prefer more long term rewards, instead of instant gratification rewards. 25% lumber rate for 7 days,30 days 90 days etc. Larger building queue for 7,30,90 days. This is going to keep my playing the game longer too. If I know I still have 10 days left of this boost, I'll feel more obligated to log on and play while I have that boost. Then I'll be more likely to extend it if I've spent all this time building myself up.
too slow.
I absolutely love it. It's a nice change of pace to have a slow, relaxed sort of game compared to the manic kind of games I normally play. That said, I would love if some of the slower gathering resources gathered a bit faster. Maybe it's just the stage I'm in before my town gets larger but as it is now, it takes an incredible amount of time to get a decent amount of stone together to build with.
lvl 1-16 was very fast, virtually 1 day, then its a painfull standstill, too many blocks to progress. We are beta testing for sure, can appreciate that but standing still isn't testing much. Toss us some means to move forward, another day of this will be too much. It seems like a nice game, awesome graphics for a web browser and the full screen option is awesome. I also believe most would agree more available, accessible on demand info on materials, battles and such would go a long way, again I do appreciate its closed beta, just offering my valued opinion. Great game with awesome potential but a tad too slow even compared to the slowest i've experienced.. thanks for the opportunity to be part of the beta test!!
I am liking the game quite a lot. It reminds me of good old Settlers 2, one of my favorite games. This game goes extremely slow but since you still get materials while offline, I dont mind that as much.
I feel like I would like the builds to be a tad quicker, although the resource collection rate seems about right. I really like the look and the dependency between the different buildings. I'm still trying to figure out how to best play this game. So far, I like the idea of starting the the game up first thing in the morning under a separate tab, then switching back and forth between it and other things (like Facebook). The nature sounds are calming, and the alarms remind me when to go to back to the game.
I completely agreed with Hachima. I feel like whoever invest more cash by purchasing Gems would win the race and this is not the way of a strategy game should be. The battle is not interesting neither, you dont get to control your troops. There should be an option for either you control your troops in the battles or leave your troops for computer control them.
I am my second days (more than 48 hours) and I only have 1 battle so far. There should be more things for the players to do, keep them busy, rather than waiting hours for resources and training troops.
Hi,
I had a different idea of how browser games worked so I was not sure how I was doing or if I was messing up, but another player gave me some advice and now I understand a bit better. I like the game and the consept is great, some of the more advanced players will give better and more in depth opinions on game play.
i like the game so far. I just started playing yesterday. I'd like to see more with the animations and maybe be able to click the people around the village and have some more interaction with the people and environment.
I love the game so far. It is a reminiscent throw-back to Settlers 2 & 3 (if I recall). Those were my favorite Settlers games. So far the gameplay seems pretty good. I'm just wondering if there is ever any combat between players and/or what happens when the whole island has been cleared of baddies.
Personally I'd like to see some sort of leveling for the Generals. I'd love to be able to empower them like in Travian -- add damage for the hero, or increasing the damage of all melee units, or ranged units, etc, by a small percentage. Or being able to "heal" a certain number of troops after a fight. It'd be nice to put this "battle experience" to use instead of just increasing your level. I think that the combat could use a little work, but I just haven't given much thought to how it could be improved at the moment.
I am loving the game, love always being given a chance to closed beta test a game and beta testing games, Thank you UbiSoft for the invitation in the mail, I am Zexter in the game, level 17 so far.
1- SPECTACULAR!!!!!!!!! Nice job Devs!
2- Some levels are too slow
3- 15 minutes to get a settler is a bit too much
4- The devs partecipation to the project is outstanding
5- Please remove the tree stumps
6- I am so happy i found Settlers on line....i have been waiting alot for it
It's a great game but lacking on those points:
1. It's a bit slow and not much to do due to that slowness.
2. after you hit level 18 or so its the same thing all over again (need some kind of social interaction...PvP? contributing to an alliance goal? Something that shows you can be part of a community helps! and maybe a world map representation of that?
3. The battle scenes can use MUCH improvement.
4. Leveling shouldn't be the barrier of enjoyment and that's what it seems like.
