They really need to fix their network code so it handle people without timing them out, its the kind of game you play keeping the window open while doing something else, having to relog every time you tab back is insanely annoying.

I second this, I do some ebay stuff and the game is a nice break so I float back and forth, but having to go through the whole login process does get old.
Logging in through Facebook solves this issue, that is if you stay logged into FB.
Clarification: It does not keep you from timing out, but it keeps you from having to go through the whole log in process. I simply click my bookmark and it takes me directly into my game.
Still a downer for those who don't have a facebook account. I know its hard to imagine, but I am certain there are still peeps out there who don't have one :D
Doesn't take much to re-log, but it is a minor nuissance.
For those who DO use facebook, I've only timed out once while using it... and it didn't happen for about 3 hours after I started playing.
I happen to be timed out for about the 10th time today just now....It has happened at least once every two to three hours every day since beta opened. Very annoying since log in time is taking an increasing longer period each day... I might give the facebook thing a try as Im getting tired of seeing the 403 forbidden page..
when timed out I was getting "error page not found 403" that has not happened today just timed out - re-login
Keep your face book, I'll remain free. A time out once a day is nothing.
Hey, you guys can keep complaining about the timeouts- I'll count our blessings. I've played so many betas where the servers just go down for hours or days, items (similar to those found in the S*T*A*R* menu) just disappear, quest logs and tool tips are translated with dictionary pages pasted to a dart board, and players tapping into exploits. Et cetera, et cetera.
This has been one of the cleanest betas I've ever been in, and I'll take the timeouts any day over disappearing items, especially.
Definitely have to agree with that part of it hfbrooklyn - this is definitely a well-packaged beta. Not sure if this version is running concurrently with the German version or if its ahead of this one, but I am impressed with the overall experience. And its just going to get better from here :)
Most games will actively close your connection if you idle for too long. This is nothing new, and entirely acceptable.
It's also good to close someone's connection after a period of time to help discourage the use of bots. It's also an unnecessary strain on the server having people idle with their browsers open. It'll make for unusually long delays when logging in when the game goes live.
In the mean time, you could just create a favorite or a shortcut to the login page and simply click the play button. I don't find this to be of any significant inconvenience at all.
@Doc-Rock
I'm one of those people that don't have Facebook. I had it at one point, but moved away from it for several reasons. Mundane status updates from friends, I don't agree with Facebooks privacy policy, I don't agree that everything you upload becomes property of Facebook, Facebook deploys sketchy advertising. I just don't like Facebook. I'm looking forward to Diaspora. G+ is going to have to really wow me to get me to use anything besides youtube, google search and gmail after the nightmare fiasco that was buzz. Now if you'll excuse me I have to put on my foil hat and crawl back under my desk.
Hey guys. The "timeouts" are actually programmed into the game. After about 2 hours your connection will automatically disconnect, even if you are actively playing. This is to prevent too much strain on the server.
Now, if you are timing out every time you open a new tab, this needs to be reported as a bug
