no, because unless it offers something completely new and different (major update - can't be done unless reset..), would prefer to continue - and see what the rest have to offer. Since it's still beta, doesn't really make much different - the point is to test it out and see if any more improvement can be done/implemented b4 release. For those who want to restart, a reset button would be good idea if it's not too hard to implement :p
i would like to wipe because people play later have the disadvantage in level
I see both ways. But i vote for a wipe before the game goes live.
If the closed beta testers go into open beta, with no wipe, we could test the higher end content (if we don't get to it by then). The new open beta testers could find any bugs or issues that us closed testers might have missed. Its usually good to have a fresh set of eyes looking at it. But once it goes live, then i say a wipe.
That is just my 2 cents.

Exactly, and there should be some bit of advantage to the Beta testers, a bit of thanks for all everyone has done. In the life of the full game these few advantages will mean nothing to the whole game, but at this point it will mean a lot to the testers.Quote:

It would be an unfair advantage to go beyond Beta with what we have created so far. Not to mention that were are all on closed islands.
After wiping we would still be starting with huge advantages. Friends we have made and know we can trust. Understanding of the game that puts us way ahead on the learning curve from noobs. Just knowing what NOT to do will help immeasurably when starting over.

Afraid I have to agree - problems and goof ups notwithstanding. Progress grinds to a halt as it is, once you're at level 16 and facing a total of a few HUNDRED bandits (and it takes a total of 1-2 hours to produce resources and recruits - that seems a bit excessive, really), that I just wouldn't do a do-over. My dos pesos.

I would say a wipe since it would put every one on equal terms in the open beta but also maybe a one time gift for us for putting time in the game while it was closed.

I would like to start over fresh and actually optimize my production lines, I've built so much now that destroying it and rebuilding from scratch just isn't realistic..
On that same note, is it against the rules to give my wife my other beta account password? She wants to play but we have the same IP, obviously.
I am for the wipe. I have a lot of areas that I would do differently a second time around.
My town is the most disorganized inefficient setup possible. I made tons of mistakes and would do things differently if I would do it again. That said, my crappy town works fine. I wouldn’t want to spend another week to get to the point I am. If I don’t like where I have a building I just destroy it and rebuild it. I’m not sure what a wipe really offers. Except another week of waiting on settlers to respawn so I can do one attack a night……
As for an advantage.... how can I have an advantage over anyone else in a single player (so far) game???

Once you get into level 16 and especially 17 you realize exactly how much a wipe is needed. My town is horrible. WIPE IT!!!! All I can do is look at it and say I want to redo this and that. I am seriously tempted to just start bulldozing things here....
I really do not undrstand why everyone has to get wiped out, if someone wants to get wiped and start over fine let them do it, but all I see here is everyone that wants to start over just wants to drag everyone else down with them. There is nothing unfair about having a few levels head start on an endless online game. I feel like I have raised a child to 5 or 6 and now social services wants to take her away for no reason.
Their reason for wanting to wipe is as good of a reason as to why you don't. There are, however, other very good reasons to wipe, and I've still yet to hear a good reason to not.Quote:

It is common in 95% of games these days for a Closed Beta wipe to occur. I have become accustomed to CB wipes, so it doesn't particularly bother me. [See Cezton's points earlier in this thread for reasoning]
Open Beta, on the other hand, has evolved into a very long process (sometimes lasting a couple of years) and there is usually NO wipe at this point because items can now be purchased in the Item Shop.
And really... some of you have only been playing for 3 days and you couldn't bear to be wiped? Most games stay in closed beta for a couple of months and then get wiped. It is just the side-effect of being a beta tester. HOWEVER, it will be interesting to learn how long they intend CB to last. It may change some people's opinions, but I would still prefer a wipe.
And one last thing: Has there been any word on if they intend to add a new Server anytime soon. Depending on how much a server costs to keep up, that is the easiest/best way for players to start over fresh... after a wipe of course :-p
YES. Conversely I'd also like to see an option for purchasing gems for free during the beta, albeit VERY limited, so people can experiment with those functions as well. This would help the testing quite a bit as people would be able to progress much faster and thus reveal more bugs before official release.
I'm talking like significant amounts of gems, NOT 10 here 10 there. More like 1k gems for a false $19.99 or whatever your sketch plans are at this time.
This poll is flawed because it doesn't consider what non-beta players want and that will be a much larger portion of the total community once the closed beta ends.
I brought this up in global the other day, but nobody seemed interested. I'll repeat myself here. I don't want a wipe not just because of preference but because depending on how long the beta is, it isn't needed. From what I heard- rumors and such, that tutorial island isn't the end of the game. We're supposed to leave the island and go to the mainland or something. Now, my whole point falls apart if this isn't the case, but here we go.
It'll take weeks for our unholy crusade against the starving bandits of Tutorial Island to come to a victorious end. If we get to a main land then we start over, right? Sort of like a wipe, although it only wipes your city and not your entire account (level). If the beta ends in a month or two, so few people will have left Tute Island that there won't be a need to wipe since everyone will have to make the jump to the main land. If the beta lasted for a year or more, a wipe would be understandable because we all would have a huge boost on the newbies, although even then I would not like a wipe.
Again, I realize I based my post on a few confused rumors, but if what I espoused is the case, then what I said holds water to an extent.
I want a wipe. I have made a real mess and would like to start over when game hits the street.

Depending on how long beta lasts, I might want a wipe.

In exchange, I'll have more storage space (assuming I didn't delete the storage warehouses anyhow until I depleted some supplies from them if I want to relocate them), I have more space to build with, and I presumably have resources available.
People saying there should be a wipe because their layout is awful....that's a little mind-numbing. Destroy your world and redo it! Or make a new account! Jeez!
Ditto for the people saying that things might change and lower levels should get tested out again. Besides the fact that more people would be around to test this in an open beta (or jeez, that one person who didn't like his avatar)...again, how HARD is it to start a new email account and then making a new account with CEO? 2 minutes? 5 maybe? How long does it take to get to level 17 again, or level 50, or whatever level we might be at when closed beta ends? Days? Weeks? See the difference?
If the cost of buildings changes, this notion of asking for a refund seems ridiculous. Again, how hard is it to tear down your existing layout, and starting over just with the knowledge that (a) you can trade for goods you might need in the process of rennovating, (b) the extra storage/layout space to work with? Testing is FASTER when you have more resources.
And as for people not liking to see people at higher level...you realize people STILL join MMOs like WoW/Rift even though there's billions of people levels ahead of them? Why is that if people so hate seeing people ahead? Oh, that's right. Could it be "Community"? You have people you can play with, people that will have the money to have started out guilds, an economy that's not wildly fluctuating, people that can help give you advice on what to do or give you free stuff once you can trade to help you along.
Generally, one of the reasons people might take offense, and why a wipe is given then, is because beta testers aren't paying for access to the game, but the commercial release -is- for pay. That's not the case here though. It's a free to play game with micro transactions. If Ubisoft wishes to do a wipe, it should probably wait until the game is fully open and the store is live. That's where they encourage people to invest money for the microtransactions. Not quite necessary in a mostly free game as opposed to a subscription game, but still somewhat reasonable reason for a wipe.
The main reason for wipes is either the business plan, as stated above, or because there are BUGS that can't really be cleaned out without doing a wipe. Most of the bugs for CEO though, tend to be translation ones from what I can tell, not so much coding, as the game is largely based on the european version. Not too likely to require a wipe, though still possible.
For the most part in this particular game, (and to turn it around on another poster), I haven't seen a GOOD reason FOR a wipe, and I think I've stated why I don't think they're valid reasons. When you don't wipe, you have an existing community, more people that can find bugs at high levels quickly, and frankly, you don't lose quite as many people.
This game -is- slow with leveling. People that stick with it long enough to get to a high level by the time beta ends, they probably won't quit so easily once they reach whatever the level cap is like some people insinuate they'll do (Pffft!), they'll just start either playing more socially, with combat against friends, or redesigning their city layouts. Maybe they might open a new email account and start over.
On the other hand, there are a lot of people that get attached to their world, or that hate going through the monotony of slowly getting access to old stuff all over again. Those people may very well quit in response to a wipe, unless it's planned extremely soon, while people are still level 16-20 primarily.
It's a matter of, what do you lose if you wipe? A lot. What do you lose if you -don't- wipe? *looks up at rest of post* Not a whole lot?
I still expect a wipe may be imminent once the game is officially off beta, or anywhere in between, but almost all the reasons given in this thread for doing a wipe just seem pointless and inane (and I've listed the two reasons I think a wipe is important for). Whereas the "I don't want to lose my progress" is still a very valid reason for not wiping. It's just a matter of the developer deciding whether it's worth losing those few players or not.
