Weird Geologist Bug

So I sent my Geologist out to search for coal (only have 1 current node 'discovered' and I know there are 3) I come back 4 1/2 hours later to send him on his merry way but lo' and behold, he's already out looking for the 3rd node, which would be great, except he never found the 2nd. The only coal on my map is where my existing coal mine was and the other two spots were barren, along with every other mountain in my sectors.

I then asked in global to see if anyone else has had this problem and one fellow, Trambam noted that this happened to him 3 times with gold (another 4 hour search) so might be an odd bug that is popping up.
