So I completed the adventure tutorial and was victorious and my army has not returned. Its been 3 hours now approx.
If there is a significant time for an army to return the tutorial should say so.. Right now im missing my army and my garrison.. getting worried.
Guess ill see tomorrow if it comes back....
I think this needs to be communicated though.
Are you sure don't have a garrison'd general in the southern portion of your starting zone? That's where it popped up for me when I was done with the tutorial adventure.
My garrison still hasnt appeared at its not 11:16 PM EST when I finished the tutorial around 5:00 PM EST.
my men are still accounted for but are still missing. I have screenshots if needed.

The garrison is down below. Interesting enough the men dont show in the military tab until i de assigned them all then re assign them. then they re appear in the military tab at your mayor house.
Sometimes there are graphics glitches. Like when someone buffs you but you can't see the buff effect, until you leave and return.
