I am having the exact same problem, and I've already cleared my cached, etc. Firebox 6 btw. Time out every 2 hours exactly no matter I am doing in game. Then I get logged out, and I have to clear my old name from the Login window, and and put my long email address in, and then my password. blech! This I have to do every two hours.
For the record, I upgraded to Firefox 6 last week. I was using Firefox 5x before that, and had the same issues with timeouts. Also, I am using Windows XP service pack 2, but that should not make an ounce of difference.
Timeouts before UpPlay merge
I had just recently determined that if left "alone" the server would time me out every 120 minutes. I could be in-active, totally-active, or sort-of-active, but this made no difference. Browser focus did not matter either. Meaning I could be involved in a trade, upgrading a build, moving around the map....or be looking at another browser window. The time-out was on the dot, every 120 minutes, no matter what. If I manually logged out for some reason, the "time-out clock" would reset it-self to time me out 120 minutes after the last time I manually logged back in.
Please note I was not actually "logging out of my account", but simply using the "Logout" button in the game, which would log me out of the game server, but not from my main account, or the forums. This was, in all, a rather nice "access" detail that I came to appreciate, as running the game server browser window is a strain on my CPU.
UpPlay Merge
On Monday, I selected the "new to Uplay" window, and input a new username (was forced to do this), and a password. The window already had my email address input into it. This APPEARED to work. I was able to connect to my account, and log into the forums and the game server. At a certain point however, I used the Log-out button in-game. Imagine my surprise when this brought me back to the main website, and showed me as being totally logged out.
At which point I tried to use the new username I had selected, and it did not work. I tried logging in with my new user-name and password using Chrome, and that did not work either. At a certain point I ascertained that I could input my email address as instead of my user name. This worked in Chrome, and I was able to log in fully.
Shortly thereafter, I went back to FireFox, cleared my cache, and clicked the Login banner on the site. My old username (Indigo) was shown, instead of the new one (Indigo-Blue). I deleted my old username, and input my email address into the username field, input my password, and this logged me into my account, the forums, and the game server.
Account and Timeouts
Since Monday afternoon, I've been timed out every 2 hours, more or less (I do sometimes log out for various reasons. Since Monday, the logout button in the game logs users out of their account, the game server, and the forums.
To this problem, add the fact that for whatever reason, the Login window does not remember ANYTHING other then my old username, which was used before the UpPlay merge.
So finally, every two hours or so, I get timed out, and taken back to the main website where the Login banner is shown. When I click the Login banner, my old username is already in the username field. I have to delete that username entry, and then enter in my current email address (it's rather long), and my password. And on any given day, I have to do this 6-8 times.
Doing this action 6-8 times got really old on Monday. Now, its very very very annoying.
I will look into this tomorrow. Is this happening to everyone? Can you ask your guildmates if it happens to them? Thanks!
Is happening to me as well. I thought maybe this was tied to an old bookmark, so I updated every computer that I had this bookmarked on. When I time out, I have to fill out my username (aka email address) and password.
Me also. Firefox v6 here.
Explorer 9, same is happening to me. If it makes a difference my castleempire name was taken and had to create a different name in uplay for sign in. Only started since open beta started.
havnt had a time out yet, so can't say for that, but having to reenter your log in info everytime or everyday is becoming bothersome
I also experience this problem. Chrome or Firefox on Linux or Windows 7.
I think mine might be the same issue Kryles. I use IE 9 on one of my laptops and my username is different in UPlay. It appears (will be monitoring this more closely) that the laptop I play on during work doesn't have this issue and it is IE8
I have also noticed that this forum suffers from the same issue. After a period of time, I am not allowed to respond or post, it wants me to log in. This is regardless if I am using the forum launched through the game or if I am logged just into the forum. I will monitor this behavior on my IE9 laptop this evening.
This happens to me, on firefox 4 and whatever the current one is (7?).
Happens whether I log in clicking the uplay button on the left hand side or the "log in to the community" on the right hand side or the "log in" link at the very top of the page.
The Devs must have done something, because the login process now remembers my email address, and my password. Which is such a relief! The other issues are still present, but this takes away a huge amount of stress, so thanks Devs!
Now it seems I get redirected to http://w01bb01.castleempireonline.com/ and I go to http://castleempireonline.com/ and then log in again.
I have to log n anytime I check that's more than 2 hours. I'm using Safari, so it seems to happen on every major browser. I'm also getting the can't finish the log in, empty your browser cache, which I do, but I still can't get to the game world.
Happens to me too w/ the Uplay. Server times out, I have to relog. Its highly annoying to me! Also, I'd like to be able to just press one button ---Just like the facebook button --- or at least a 'remember me' box :)
This happens to me on both Firefox and IE8...
Normally I use Firefox, but I had to switch because I like to play in Fullscreen mode... and pressing F11 doesn't work in Firefox for this game... I can select Fullscreen from the view menu, but then when I move the mouse cursor to the top of the screen, it freezes the menu in place.
Suffice it to say, it got annoying having to select fullscreen over and over again from the view menu, so I switched to Internet Explorer. Fortunately, Fullscreen Mode works fine there as does using F11 as well so no problem with that, but the timeout issue still happens, and I also have to log in each time.
Neither browser will save my username/password.
If you are using Firefox there should be an option to remember password:
Under your "tools" tab
Go to "options"
Then click "security tab"
In here you should see the option to remember password for sites make sure this is clicked.
it is... it works fine on other games... just not here. :S
Is the site listed as a trusted site?
Same problem on Safari.
Thanks hope it works for you.
Well, I tried your suggestion, and no luck... made no difference at all...
My cookies, and cache were cleared earlier as well because of another problem which you cleared up for me BB_Mistapink... but setting the site to trusted just made a popup window appear whenever I had to switch back to the login page.
The timeouts are still happening and it still isn't remembering my info.
Well I can tell you I use Firefox 7.01 at both work and home and it remembers my login information at both locations at work I use windows 7 and home I use XP, I doubt it has anything to do with the OS and is more your browser. Do you use any internet security software that could be keeping your computer from remembering this information?
No, I don't.... it remembers my info on other sites no problem... just here there's a problem... it has something to do with the uplay login thing... it isn't the same as other sites.
I've used both Firefox and IE8, and both have this issue. Although presently I am using IE8 simply because of how buggy the fullscreen mode is on it for this game.
I'll try updating firefox and try again with it and see maybe if that makes any difference....
Again, I'll keep you posted. ;)
EDIT: Well, I updated Firefox to 7.01, but to my dismay it didn't fix the problem.
If I just close the browser and not log out properly, I can still open up a new browser and I'm still logged in... but if I click logout, and then close browser, reopen, and then enter my name, my password doesn't automatically show up in the box like it does for other sites.
As for the timeout issue, I'd need to stay logged in long enough to see if I get timed out and see if it remembers me then... but... I can't stand the fullscreen bug issue...
I like running in fullscreen cause I can see more without those bars above and below... in Firefox, it just doesn't work... I hit f11... it does nothing, and if I select fullscreen from the menu, it works only partially now... the task bar below remains and in fact cuts off part of the in game menu below where your friends are. Subsequently, if I move the mouse to the top of the screen, the firefox toolbar section reappears, but then doesn't disappear when I move the mouse away...
This makes using Firefox completely useless at the moment.
Fullscreen mode works perfectly in IE8... but again, the login problem still there...
TBH it doesn't really bother me at all.... I'm not actually complaining about this, just rather that I feel this might be an issue other people may have a problem with.
Yeah, the timeouts are a little annoying, and I'd hope it does get resolved, but having to enter my info each time doesn't bother me much at all, and would bother me less if I wasn't timing out so often lol. :P
I guess I can understand why you wouldn't want to use Firefox, since I don't play the game full screen it doesn't bother me at all. At this point I'm stumped as to any more suggestions on this, I know your not complaining about it and thank you, but I do want to help you solve the issue. I will ask BB_MrGrimm to get in on this one he might have some ideas that could help you out in this matter but that wont be until Monday, my apologies in advance.
Sorry to hear that you are having some trouble with the log in portion of the game.
Something I want you to confirm for me is if FireFox is indeed saving the password or not.
To make sure of this simply click on "Tools" go to "options". Once you are on the options window click on the "Security" tab. There should be an option on this tab now that says "Saved Passwords...", click on this option and it will bring up another window with a list of websites and usersnames. Scroll through this list and locate the one that shows "www.castleempireonline.com", it should show your user name/log in email address. If this is not showing up click on show passwords, this should expand your list.
If it is not showing your username/log in email address, or the website at all, this means that the password and username is not saved. If this is the case make sure the "Remember Passwords For Sites" is checked. If it is checked, simply uncheck it and then check it again, click apply then try to log in. When FireFox prompts you to save the password click on the "save password option".
i am also having the same issues regarding the browser remembering my username and password. i have tried it in IE, Firefox and Chrome ( preffered browser). all don't seem to auto fill it in. i have checked all my setting on each browser. they can remember and even ask to remember for any other website with the exception of this game
I have a way for this game to remember your email address and password in Windows 10. I write it here since this is the thread I found when I searched for a way to get Mozilla Firefox to remember my email address and password.
My old computer always remembered the email address and password.
My new Windows 10 computer came with the browser Edge, and I installed Firefox. Edge remembers the email address but not the password. Firefox remembers neither.
However, I accidentally got a solution. Around the fiftieth time I typed in my email address and password while in Firefox, it asked if I wanted it to remember my password. What I had done differently? I typed a "#" instead of a "@" while typing my email address. The keys are next to each other on the keyboard. Firefox now remembers my email address typed with a "#" and my password. I just have to change the "#" to "@" when I log in on Firefox. That is a lot easier than typing the whole email address out and the whole password out.
I read you are supposed to click a "key" icon on the upper left of the screen to get Firefox to give you the popup so you can remember a password. The icon is to the left of the website address of this game. Settlers Online does not show that "key" icon. It has an icon which says "This website does not supply identity information". I am relieved I can used a mistyped email address to save a nearly complete version of my email address and password. Hopefully this helps anyone else searching in Google for how to get Mozilla Firefox to save your password in this game. Hopefully you find this thread like I did.
Update: it lasted one day. Then inexplicably the Settlers Online saved password was removed from Mozilla Firefox's saved passwords. My other saved passwords remain. But my "#" concoction is now gone and I cannot get it saved again. My sympathies to anyone else who finds this thread since Firefox won't save his password to this game. I thought I had a solution.
Update: Since August 23, 2015 Mozilla Firefox has remembered my normal email and password. I put it in after my "#" for "@" version disappeared. It is saved in my Saved Passwords section of Mozilla Firefox. I have been checking for a private message or post here saying someone for Settlers Online fixed my problem. I see none. So I assume someone working for Settlers Online saw my posts here and kindly did something so my password is remembered. Thank you whoever did that. I am very grateful.
Hello John-Axe,
You might want to report that to the Mozilla team, we do not control how the password are saved in your browser or other utilities.
Cordially,
