in order for an object to have color, it must reflect a small amount of light; most objects absorb light and relect a little. color is the wavelength of light that gets reflected, you don't see all the wavelength of light that are absorbed by the object. clear is what happens when light passes thru the object, and is not relfected in significant quantities.

all color = white: object reflects 100% of light
no color = black: object absorbs 100% of light
