Beta wipe? Gems?

So I'm thinking of buying gems, but the game is still in beta. I don't want to buy them if my city will get wiped.

It would be nice to get an official response on this given the importance of encouraging players to buy gems. Are there any plans to do a wipe at some point in the beta or once the game goes gold? It wouldn't make sense to do a wipe, but I'd rather have some certainty on the matter than just risk it.

They have officially said there will be no wipe of the main server.
