How is it disingenuous? 1 Level 3 Noble Res = 50 Pop. 1 Level 3 Reg Res = 30 Pop. I was referring to total population, not just what was gained from the one upgrade. Sorry if I was not clear.

My apologies for an unkind term. I believe that the cost of Noble upgrades is steep enough that the per citizen cost may be better with regular residences. I'll need some time to research this theory and I do appreciate your thoughts on this.
No problem. Not sure where you are with game Punwit, but as you advance, you will def see the value of Marble and HW Planks fall. The price will not seem as steep.
The only possible way to look at residences as better is assuming you have infinite licenses + space.
Neither of these are the case and the opportunity cost of licenses are extremely high.
This leaves you with only being able to compare them 1 building vs 1 building license
Nobles are far better. 1 normal Noble Residence = a level 3 residence which costs far more then the noble. Level 4 and 5 residences are signficantly more expensive then the noble counterpart (level 2 and 3).
The per citizen cost is actually much better with nobles.
the cumulative price isnt even close. The level 4+5 residence upgrades cost an arm and a leg (500 gold, 600 marble, 1000 exotic planks, 600 Granite). Probably about 100 times the cost of a level 3 noble
I agree ArtofDZ, that cost for the Level 4 and 5 are pretty high for only 10 more Settlers each. I have stopped upgrading at Level 3 which I believe most people do.
Thanks for the info. I've not got to the point where I can upgrade anything past lvl 3 so I was stymied why I should spend more for upgrading a lvl 3 Noble than I would for a lvl 3 Residence. Appreciate the exchange from you and SirDet.
