Gold Mines, worth it or not?

Hi guys, I'm still new to the game, and i've done some research about gold productions since it was one of the main resources needed for building upgrades. First, I'm not a gold production hater, so don't flame me for that :D. I'm just wondering whether Gold mine is worth building consider the resources needed to build one vs. Trading, so, i came up with my math:

A Gold Mine (contain 300 ores) cost 1400 Hardwood Planks 1400 Marbles, and 1500 Tools. Let's say w/o buffs:
It takes 8 ore to produce 1 gold, so, a mine would gives you 37.5 gold coins
From Trading i've done with others. On average:
400 Hardwood Planks = 10 coins --- 1400 Hardwood Planks = 35 coins
400 Marbles = 12 coins --- 1400 Marbles = 42 coins
400 Tools = 10 coins --- 1500 Tools = 37.5 coins
Total: 114.5 coins

Therefore, it took almost 115 Gold coins to start off. Now, Let's get to buffs. According to this Thread http://forum.thesettlersonline.net/t...ght=gold+coins , a Mine would get you 300 gold coins if you buffed your Mine, Smelter, and Coinage constantly (just forget about what it'd cost to make the buffs itself) and you'll have to rebuild them after they're collapsed.

Since i've bought some Building Licenses, my Hardwood production's great, and so Marble, i don't see why we'd need a big production chain for gold when Planks and Marble won't require another dime to maintain once they're established. they're all natural resources, which is nice :D

So, in my opinion, it's not really worth it to build many gold production buildings for Gold Coins but to obtain them through trades. I've 1 building of each just for the heck of it. And again, I'm not a gold production hater, please don't flame me :D:cool::D

it may only be worth it if they are keeped constenly buffed at lvl 1 and are refilled with gold parrots

What you do is you offline the mine the second you built it.. then slowly upgrade it to lvl 5 (whilst still offline). Make sure you have enough ore in it (i would reccommend AT LEAST 1800 gold ore in the min). Then you purchase a rabbits foot, or flying res settler.. then get the seller to boost said mine (you watch the mine and the second it starts to be buffed. you online it). Make a note of what time the buff started, and then make sure you are online when the buff runs out and switch it off the second the buff wears out. This way, the mine should never deplete and never have to be rebuilt. Then simply rinse and repat said steps... PROFIT

well... i'm trying to calculate this with out having to use Blue Gems to buy more deposits. and even if i have to upgrade them it would cost too much Tools to do so, 500 Tools to get to lv. 2, 1000 tools to get to lv. 3 , 1500 tools for lv. 4, and so on.

Correct.. but its worth it, and fyi.. 5000 tools for lvl 5 :) But if you treat it properly.. think of the mines as permanent buildings (as long as you dont let them deplete).

Also, as for the gem cost of parrots.. parrots sell for in global for 113 - 140 gc each. Plenty of reputable buyers.. just always make sure you check the bad traders/buffers thread AND the good traders thread (in trade sction)

You dont directly buy them for gold..... you find a gem buyer.. he/she buys it and either gifts it to you.. or sells it to you (ie. you pay them.. they friend you so they can visit your island, and they will ask you which mine you want the parrot in) etc

Gold mines are worth it as long as you use them correctly. Level the mine to 5 and purchase some parrots Via Global (or gems). Get the mine basketed and note the times down so your not running them while they are unbuffed. Do not let the mine run down simply turn it off or purchase more parrots.

With the mine buffed a 500 ore parrot creates 1000 Ore. With the gold smelter buffed the smelter makes 1000 gold bars. With the coinage buffed it makes 500 gold coins out of the gold bars making each ore into 1 Gold Coin. Of course you have to take out the price of the baskets and golden parrot for total gain.

I've realized its not worth doing gold mines and creating all the gold production buildings. Even upgrading them past level 1 makes it completely not worth it.

To get your return on the troubles of upgrading your production building and the cost to even make the mine (let alone upgradinng it with tools) makes it not worth it.

I can sit in Trade and sell off all the mats that go into making the final gold product faster than waiting around for it. Not to mention the wasted buff cost and the time to keep up with it.

Simply put, Gold Mines are not worth the effort. The best I'll do is stack up all the deposit into the node, and wait til it gets super high enough and then mine the ores and just sell off the ores and not even try to pump bars or coins.

Remember, that's 3 buildings at least you could be saving. That you could be making something like sausage and then sell that off for a lot of money.

It takes a decent chunk of money to get the 3 buildings running and upgraded to a decent level; however, If you consider the fact that you are limited on licenses and the rate of money you get back from other buildings compared to the coinage then the coinage starts looking much better.

If your holding off on using up your licenses on other level 3 buildings then no its not worth it. But when your at the point where your upgrading those other buildings past level 3 then it takes a great deal of money for much less return then the coinage.

I'll use a butcher as an example since your talking about sausage. Level 3 to level 4 takes 600 exotic planks and 900 granite. It gives you in the optimal position an extra 116 sausage per day (also will have to up two hunters making the cost 1800 exotic planks 2700 granite). That is far worse payout then the gold chain.

Well most likely its not really useful advice but remember that if you destroy a mine at 1 ore left you will get a part of the spent resources back. And I think you get the same amount back regardless of ore amount left in the mine. Hmm just checked. It would give back 350 Hardwood 350 marble and 375 Tools. Say whatever you want but I think its worth more than 1 gold ore. but you have to time it. :D

And about the initial question... Well eventually this will become more profitable than market. Why? Because there is no sinks for all the excess resources high lv players have and slowly but surely you will get less gold coins for same amount of resources. And there are a lot of things to spend gold for so it will be in high demand. Sadly but this makes things difficult for new players, because it is difficult to produce so much as a high lv player produces and when you begin to need gold for upgrades its like bumping into a wall... I think adding means to spend more both types of wood and stones/marble would help. Like allowing to build temporary towers in the adventures to reduce troop loss (everyone is mostly sacrificing recruits anyways so maybe this could protect archers from cavalry and make other types of units more useful) or maybe allowing to build mines to mine granite/exotic wood or event something else instead of just freely giving it away as a reward....

I initially had the same doubts as the initial post raises. However, between buffing and ore deposit items, it does become well worthwhile. Many people have mentioned buying the gold parrots, but I want to point out that many adventures have a chance of rewarding you with an item that adds ore to gold mines. So doing those adventures is a way to get the mines refilled.

I was just giving an example. But to spend money to raise coinage to a higher level is far worst. Which would you rather spend money on ? Upgrading coinage to level 3 or upgrading something else to level 3. Especially if the coinage is not going to be running 24/7.

Thats what i said. You upgrade your other stuff to level 3 first. Then at that point its better to get level 3 coinage rather then level 4 other stuff

i have found that it is not worth mining gold unless you are at an advanced level and havent anything else to spend your resources on....otherwise share your resources with your guild mates!!

yeah, don't build coinage, gold smelters and gold mines, it's totally not worth it! :D

Heh heh.... and get a ban for something called Pushing, because you are helping others, or maybe even real life friends to get levels faster... (PS.: Don't mix that with multiaccounting when same person had multiple accounts and is sending all resources to one account.) LOL its realy first browser strategy game I see such rule where It is forbidden to give away resources to other players. I guess that is because otherwise a lot of things from gem shop (resources, some refills) may become useless. And as such thing is forbidden then we return back to the main question: Is it better to spend resources for gold chain or to sell them in the market/guild or whatever. And well as I said before as resource price in Gold Coins is ever dropping its becoming more and more profitable to run the chain yourself. esspecially if its upgraded and you need less buffs for same work to be done.

Well with the upcoming changes maintaining your own gold production chain may become only one reasonable thing to do. Because everyone will be able to place multiple offers and large quantities plus it weill be easier to find more beneficial offers. So it may happen that ppl who produce a lot of resources will drop the marble, hardwood and tools price very low. I guess we soon will see if that will happen. But I think that being able to trade small quantity and place only one offer is one of the major things which keeps market from beeing flooded by high levels and keeps resource prices somewhat stable.

Well worth it, and will be worth it more even later in the game..getting 200 coins a day or so on top of trading = win in my book.

not worth the hassle and with out buyin gems yourself all that gold for parrot stuff is iff yat best good way to get ripped off nope not worth it to me

I currently run
40 levels of gold mines (8x5)
39 levels of gold smelters (13x3)
38 levels of coinage (12x3, 1x2)
25 levels of coal mines (5x5)

I run this 18 hours a day (2x9 hour buffs) and turn ALL buildings OFF when they are not buffed.

Costs per day are
7 coal deposits (7x50 = 350 coin)
7 golden parrots (7x110 = 770 coin
78 baskets (78x6 = 468 coin)
---
1,588 coins spent per day
3,351 coins produced per day
=====
1,763 coins profit everyday.

Now if you
make and swap your own baskets,
use a Coker chain for coal,
find a cheaper gem seller, or
Use 3x buffs
you can increase your profits even more.

don't build any gc, your dropping the prices down in the market.lmao XD

how many gold ore and coal does it take to make one coin

A smelter converts 2 gold ore & 8 coal into 1 gold bar every 12 minutes, (plus whatever your travel time to/from storehouse).

A coinage converts 4 gold bars into 1 coin every 24 minutes, (plus whatever your travel time to/from storehouse).

Hello, from what I have gathered so far, its pretty much "not so much worth it" in the beginning when you first get coin chains going, but definately worth it when you get your chains leveled up and start saving up coins. When you start out, you dont have many coins to work with so its kinda difficult to buy the coal ores, parrots, etc needed to keep chains running smoothly. Only way around it is to buy these items yourself with your own gems, which then turns into spending real money to produce game money, not cool :D So in beginning, you may spend out alot of tools/marble/hwplanks to keep replacing mines, but later on when you have some coins saved up and you can find gem traders to use those coins to get the parrots, ores deposits, etc you need, the resources your spending....you won't need to do so anymore.

I've gone back n forth on deciding if i want to worry about gold chains at all or just produce resources to make my gold coins, and I've decided to go with the gold chains myself. I'm currently at the beginning, which is the not much fun part, but I know down the road it will pay off....so until that day i guess :)

Well but there is also a parrot suply/demand aspect. Its pretty obvious that the more ppl will run chains and with so huge ore demand as some ppl who comented above the more expensive parrots will become and in turn making gold will become less profitable... Well i would actually vote that devs would remake entire economy, because "GCs insanely usefull and other resources useless" stile IMO sux a lot...

The main thing that is annoying/hard to deal with is getting the Parrots. I pretty much keep 3k+GC to the side always just in case I find a trustworthy bulk Parrot seller online lol.

I spend a good part of the day generating coal for the smelters, buffs for the mines/smelters/coinage, and tools, marble and hardwood planks to rebuild mines. There probably is some profit in buying parrots, rabbits feet, etc., but that's time consuming also. Wish I had read this earlier before I built my gold chain!

I have given up on my gold chains. I have figured out other ways to make 1.5k coins per day without so much work and depending on others. My method actually helps others so its easy as pie to get my coins each day :) I know some will say its worth it, but I say its not :) I've read everyone's opinion on how gold chains are worth it and why they are worth it, but while doing so I havent seen one person mention anything about the licenses it takes to run them as well. On top of all the buff'n, parrots, ore additions, etc licenses count too. If you figure in the licenses used and what you could do with those licenses to make coins another way, that should be figured into the "total profit" as well :) ~ Its not worth it! (for me)
