when starting out don't sell out and just rush into battle. make sure you have as many troops as possible. that way you won't end up with a loss.also check, the generals path to make sure he won't be intercepted.
Advice..
1.) Don't Panic.
2.) Learn from your mistakes.
3.) Sim everything.
4.) Check the guides for your adventures for pointers, routes, troop mixes, etc.
5.) Most Important HAVE FUN !! :)
GUILD UP! a good guild will help your empire immensely thru buffs (shared buffs last 1.5x longer!), discounted resources, lootshares & most importantly: experienced advice. guides & calculators are great, but nothing beats talking realtime with ppl that have completed an adventure before u. plus, it's just more fun. :)
When doing a 2 player adventure with someone you don't know (or trust), complete 90% of the adventure BEFORE you send the invitation. That way they can't go wild and kill multiple bandit camps and take more of your exp points than necessary to get a share of the loot. ESPECIALLY when selling a loot spot. And get paid BEFORE sending the invitation. If they refuse to pay first, sell it to someone else.

I want to say TY to those more experienced players then myself. I have learn a lot reading this, what i did learn from my own game strategy is make sure you have at least 10-20 more recruits then the bandits. And try and keep your General and his horse sober. That horse, while he is drunk ,will walk into Stone mountains..
yoda says "do or do not there is no try"
When blocking a camp use 1c and 1R togain extra time
When blocking use 1C and 1R to gainexrta blocking time
Having a very strong basic materials production base is tempting, but don't give in until level 19 [when you can both harvest advanced materials and build noble residences]. Until then, build only what is necessary to maintain strong military production (Bronze Weaponsmiths, Bowmakers, Breweries, & LOTS of residences).
In general, your 'economy' exists simply to build a bigger and better military.
Patience is a virtue. When plausible, wait until you can overwhelm your opponent with considerably absurd numbers.
You're going to lose troops. Get over it.
