I can ping thesettlersonline.net but I can't ping (or find) game-cdn.thesettlersonline.net. Could it be this web site is being blocked? Could it just be changed to http://www.thesettlersonline.net/liv...g/AC_OETags.js instead of game-cdn...
Looking at the page source I get:
<title>The Settlers Online - Zeus [Realm 1]</title>
<script src="http://game-cdn.thesettlersonline.net/live/us/.../debug/AC_OETags.js" language="javascript"></script>
<script src="http://static3.cdn.ubi.com/settlers_online/other/js/jquery-1.5.min.js" language="javascript"></script>
I can ping www.thesettlersonline.net but I can't ping game-cdn.thesettlersonline.net. Is it possible that web site is being blocked? Would it be possible to host the file we can't get to on the one everyone can get to rather than the game-cdn web site?
Oops, for some reason when I reloaded, I never saw my reply so I sent it again. Sorry.
The second line is the one you most likely can't get to (http://game-cdn...)
Same, I can get to www.thesettlersonline.net, but not the game itself. However, I was on for about 40 minutes before it lagged out. I cannot reload at this point. When I was on it was very laggy, not all elements were loading, or they were very tiny. It caused Pandora radio to lag out anytime I planted a field. I tried right clicking, and that caused it to freeze. Had to click on another tab to get it to work again.
Error console shows me the following:
Timestamp: 7/5/2012 2:24:24 PM
Error: DetectFlashVer is not defined
Source File: http://www.thesettlersonline.net/en/play
Line: 33
Specifically:
var hasProductInstall = DetectFlashVer(6, 0, 65);
My guess is is that DetectFlashVer is defined in the file that we can't get loaded and thus the error indicated.
Back on again.
Still down for me
Here is what I discovered. Might only apply to those with slow connections like mine who use XP but it helped me alot.
I was talking to my IT daughter and told her I wished I had a way to tell if game was still loading after load bar indicated it was finished. It bothered me that each time I reloaded the page it was taking forever to load which made no sense if info was being cached. She had me pull up task manager and go to networking tab and look at the activity on my ISP. What I discovered was the game was still doing something LONG after the bar was full. (do this with no other active pages up so you are looking only at activity on game page.)
So basically, in my case, I wasn't letting it load. I'd assume it was done, bar was full, I'd wait a few minutes and then I'd hit reload, hoping that this would be the time it would complete.
By watching the actual activity on networking tab I realized 2 things. There was still something going on behind the page and that once all activity (I'm assuming more info being downloaded) dropped to zero, THEN game loaded into login queue page. And it took awhile, much much longer then I was blindly waiting before.
Well, I'm back on, finally. Island'd gone to shreds, but at least I can start to fix it.
still cant get on...same as everyone else...shows white load screen then nothing :(
I am unable to get in again. Is this ever going to be fixed?
I also cannot get on on my main computer. was able to get into the game on my laptop while I was at a hotel. but not here. Have not checked the laptop yet. Still getting the white screen on my main computer.
Still the same here also - white screen of death. It appears that no one is working on this anymore since we have not heard one from MrGrimm since Monday. No way to run a business!!!!
for some of you having issues, there is a problem with the DNS settings provided by many of the ISPs. If you have a router, put the google public dns settings and see if that allows you to complete loading.
Others, if you are getting the bar, you may just need a fresh browser. All browsers allow for you to delete temporary internet files and cookies. Once you do that, you need to close all browser, then type in the address in the URL instead of using your favorite.
This game takes quite a bit of processing when it loads, so if you are connecting by modem, you may need to let it finish, or refresh it a few times before it passes from the log in to the game screen.
I play on an aircard, so this game is playable on slow connections, but you do have to be patient while it loads.
To see if the game is getting "stuck" you can go into internet explorer under Tools; Internet Options; Advanced tab and find where it says "Show friendly error messages" and uncheck it. close all browser sessions and try to log into the game. If the is a game stop error, you will now see it.
Lady Terra, thanks for the info. I tried the Google Dns settings and they did not make a difference. I still get the white screen of death. I was able to get on twice yesterday, and it did seem like it never finished loading. Very laggy, and slow. I guess I will have to move on at this point. It has been out now since the gem mine patch.
Thank you for your advice LadyTerra but most of it doesn't apply to this problem. None of us are seeing the loading bar since it goes to the white screen of death right away.
The relevant part is the DNS settings. But, I for one, have no access to the router so this won't help me at all. I have been playing this game for close to a year with no problems accessing it until the last week and a half. What did BlueByte change that has caused this to not be recognized anymore? Did they switch servers?
Just got on by reconfiguring my DNS server and flushing the DNS. Website here has the info: http://www.steven-sanders.com/why-yo...ut-others-can/. I used the open DNS servers, and then at cmd prompt: ipconfig/flushdns. Got on first try. Thanks to Lady Terra to pointing in the right direction.
And thank you Ornias for finding the instructions to do it. That worked for me also (using the Google open dns)
still cant get on...followed all the step by step everyones been putting up even reset router...it didnt start doing this to me til after the maintenance was done
did you reboot your computer after restarting your router Lord?
This worked for me as well, thank you!
Though, I do wish we'd had these instructions before the soccer event ended. :-(
Lord, make sure you flushed the DNS at the end, it is easy to miss
i did all that...even tried the google 1 and it didnt work either...reset unpluged rebooted and still nothing
something wrong with the load screen?...cant get into game
made it back in...my island was a wreck lol
Looking for some help with this issue still, if anyone has ideas.
The whitescreen problem we've been experiencing will go away if I set my DNS to something specific (as recommended on page 10 of this thread,) but I can't leave my system configured like that. I have to allow this machine to acquire a DNS address automatically.
What happened in the previous update that broke this? I've been playing for an age on this machine, with it configured for automatic DNS and never had the issue before.
Any ideas?
ok i give up....i tried everything. Time to move on and look for a better game.
My profile has been banned because my name, how do i change it?
i cant log on tried everything
i get stuck on the load screen - for the past 10 days or so , it won't load in ie8 at all and in firefox(no scripts) it loads 1 day out of 4. my cache is cleared and flash is up to date. i try several times thru out the day(with rebooting). at first i thought it was my data cap but it reset on the 21st of the month so thats not it.
same problem here except i seem to have better luck early in the morning getting on ....CA time ... in the afternoon forget it.
