"Muito obrigado" Evil for the Maps with Skills !
evil.... so the "Maps with skills" are based on having a full skill tree on all the gens that are being used based on your skill tree guide? except for sac gens of course. i only have 1 270 gen with full books. it will be years before i build enough to get another gen
I would go into the Maps with Skills and look for single attacks with Major and then compare to the Maps with COA. For example, C6 on First Thief no longer requires a sacrifice wave when using a skilled major. Savings of 130+ Recruits (don't remember exact number, sorry).
Not practical for Evil to have to account for every combination of Skilled Generals we could all have. the suggestion above is a good one.
Evil posted a while back that his guides were going to built with his skills on his generals. He was kind enough to post all of his general skill sets as well.
That's less than ideal for a lot of people, but it's a real world solution to the myriad options available as we add skills to our generals.
I, personally, have chosen to use skills that are somewhat different from those EvilJ chose in at least a couple of places. And, I too, am far from filling out the skill trees for all of my generals.
What this means is that I have to run some sims and make some decisions and adjustments. And that's not EvilJ's fault, nor his responsibility to account for when building a guide.
I appreciate the guides for what they are - guides. Thank you, to EvilJ and our other resident guide builders.
Exactly. It is awesome that he posted the skill tree he is using so we have something to compare to. I think peeps got too used to silver plates being handed to them and following cookie-cutter guides that spoon fed them. Time to break out some sims, and/or just roll-up the sleeves and 'get dirty'; play by trial and error! It is pretty fun and we have a ton of great stuff to work with in the new skills. The options and variations of possibilities are very large. At this point it would be nearly impossible to cover every persons' own strategies. Cheers.
My skills for Vargus, Anselm, and Major used Evil_J as a base with a few tweaks, though I looked at but pretty much ignored the rest of his general skills. I'm assuming that setting up those main generals similar to him will allow me to follow his guides still, simming as needed.
One improvement for Woodcutter: skilled Anselm can save 21 mounted swordsmen on leader 1 if someone kills camp 2 for him.
damm so many things to answer :)
bigbobdog - the time savings and total losses DONT count the 9% back from first aid, consider those a bonus ;)
thevictorious - i just used all manuscripts to open the path for the codex tiers, manus are cheaper than tomes and didnt really need anything else from tome skills
about my skills, you dont have to copy them exactly for guides to work, only a few skills that change damage are important really. majors and coas are the most important gens to match, the rest basically just move faster to and on adventure, mmas mostly do sacs so not a big deal either
also got more free time now, just need to find my motivation again and will make the rest of the guides :)
Your guides are great and thank you EvilJ i look forward to seeing and using more of them
I should also add with the gwalben comment about L1 in woodcutter. I send the block as evilj has (or i use MoD with 195MS) then send major with troops given in guide to the intercept camp. I put anslem (25MS 140MM) next to the major and maybe a space difference and send to the L1 camp. Anslem will get intercepted but that is ok the block holds anyways and then takes out L1 with the savings in troops.
I do a similar attack on L3 with a major and anslem (25MS 52AM 88MM).
Also you could send nusula with 1R to C3 and save another 6MS.
All this saves about 46MS.
you can try this for first block: https://prnt.sc/eemriq
MoD to block with 194 MS, Major270 MM send at 'intercepted camp', 2xMMA1r and Ansy 22 MS 128 MM at L1. Losses: 21MS
Nice, but a lot of work for that attack. Here is my positioning for L1 (Same as guide less Anslem):
http://i.imgur.com/MjPgtsL.png
Send each general directly to their targets, MoD hits C1, Major directly to C2, Anslem to L1, Nusala followed by Vargus to C3. Using the above setup, and using the standard 'quick succession' model of sending generals, Anslem will not be intercepted:
C1 = [MoD] - 194MS.
C2 = [Maj] - 220MM. Note, that this can be any 220 (Log, Veteran, MMA or Major) general, even without science.
L1 = [Ans] - 24MS and 141MM. Note, Anslem has science fully applied.
C3 = [Nus] - 1R; [Var] - 25MS, 95AM and 75MM.
Only loses 24MS, and saving extra MMA's for other uses.
For L3, I use (when the time permits to wait for Anslem to keep returning) a setup similar to what Bigbobdog was describing above:
http://i.imgur.com/AbCVLfN.png
Send each general directly to their targets, Wino hits C7, MMA directly to C8, and Anslem to L3. Using the above setup, Anslem should not get intercepted, but if he is for whatever reason, C8 also goes down fast. Normally, L3 goes down within a second of C8 going down.
C7 = [Gen] - 150MS and 10AM. (Same as guide)
C8 = [MMA] - 200MM. Note, that this can be any 200 general, even without science.
L3 = [Ans] - 20MS, 55AM and 90MM. Note, Anslem has science fully applied.
Total 20MS for L3.
Cheers!
Exactly what i meant Raubhautz although i think you mean L3 not C3 for that second photo. I may have different troops but i think my losses are the same.
For C3 i just meant send your sac MMAs there and also if you have Nusula 1up then you could sac that on C3 as well and get your losses a bit lower yet.
So far my record on this adv with starting - final is 172MS.
UPDATE
- fixed number of MS needed on 1st thief
- added skilled guide for 3rd
Thnk you for answer, but well, for me it seems i'll use some tomes :P
Anyway, I was thinking about the tons of tomes that I have use for fast generals, so I think fast travel for all my main attackers is minor, make not big deal if until I get all my generals skilled with it, also, regular generals still a bottleneck, even if I started with MODs.
So what you think about this setup for Vargus, majors and anslem:

or this:

Advice? :)
Those are fine, you simply moved the few moveable non combat skills into other non combat skills that you prefer, some of us simply prefer the faster travelling speed over the increased XP from whichever camps are affected by it. After being here for years on end, that traveltime eventually sinks in more and more and aggrevates over time. Not to mention with the right event, generals and troop counts, running adventures back to back will be that much more efficient when you have the time to milk it. WotS during easter would've been that much nicer with ~7min travel times on Gens.Quote:
Advice?
Though I'd recommend skipping Hostile Takeover completely, they are so cheap and fast to make it's pretty much a waste (granted, having mercs in star that you can top off for a friend [that was a thing iirc] if they happen to be short for the last camp or whatever is nice....but still).
@EvilJ
Haven't looked at your new guides yet/whichever are still upcoming, but you mentioned having a MMA use here and there with UnCharge, any chance you remember how many such situations there are? Still can't get a feel for that skill whatsoever, but only intended to skill 1 with it in the first place.
Checking out the 3rd thief guide. I like what I see except for L9. I have been using 16MS + 61AM + 208MM (M)
Also, on C8 I switched to 14MS + 151MM (An)
I went the 1 crash course route. I'm only putting hostile takeover on my vets. A wasted skill if you're trying to build up a powerful general, but I'm mostly just using them to farm resources on easy kills.
UPDATE
- added wisdom guide with skills, 5h saved, adv runs in 1h now, not bad
- improved 3rd thanks to mister blister, saved another 1.5h worth of 18ms
and as so many requests, gonna improve my WC guide....one of these days :)
a little extra exp until reach higher level also, get enough tomes and codex to skill all or most my generals, then I can do reset maybe, but I'll go with 1 level for faster travel, actually I'm not fan to do a lot of adv per day, but yes I like to finish it faster..
I'm just sharing thoughts, really thank you for your guides and efforts.
BTW, did you see my notes in page 105?, i have 2 replies there, about oil lamp and red text, thanks again.
UPDATE
- improved WC skilled guide
- added oil lamp skilled guide
i think i saw it but its oil lamp, i dont care that much :p
ToW L9 can be done with 16MSW 269AM (skilled major) , so no bow sac needed according to sim.

Feedback from my friend Thorwik on the Newfoundland server who is unable to post in this forum:
"Thanks for the great guides. Good improvements to the skilled woodcutter guide but still have some comments.
- Skilled Vargus works better than Major against L4. With 34MS 161MM you lose only 31MS.
- MM work better than AM on L6 since they have first strike and the boss doesn't. When using MM instead of AM the max loss is 26 MS and the attack works even if overrun and garrison annex are the only attack skills on Vargus.
- Using 165R in Anslem against L6 seems like a waste. The final attack works just as well with only 140R in Anslem."
Thorwik
Indeed, instead of losing 35B + 16MS, you can ignore the B and only have 16MS loss
UPDATE
- added guide for knowledge
3 babas left to do, sinbads will run when i get them on pathfinder, princess pfff hard to say :)
fisherman chain will be done soon, already have 1 adv in star
UPDATE
- added BLT guide with skills
Question about last block in Woodcutter Skilled guide:
Should not x14 block camp C14 with 160MS + 40AM and x15 block camp C13 with 196MS? With the way you have it written in the current guide, x15 gets intercepted and gets to camp C13 before x14 gets there.
Thanks for your guides!
Hello,
it seems camps X14 and X15 on the zoom picture are inverted.
UPDATE
- added besieged skilled guide, had this thing ready for 2 weeks and forgot to post :D
UPDATE
- added skilled guides for EQ chain, big savings on these ones, more specifically, heres how many rack hours have been saved
fisherman - 21.5h
hansel - 15.3h
pied piper - 15.9h
rrh - 26.6h
snow white - 20.4h
Thank you for these recent updates and the savings are incredible.
UPDATE
- added skilled coa guide for one step ahead, didnt touch the attacks on the last leaders (the ships) because theyre not included in the sim, will save a few troops but nothing special anyway
saved 29.1h on the full run and 18h on the short, now short run is more effective than full
princess will be done soon, and lost city no idea, the sim doesnt have the altar buffs so nothing i can do until then......fts will be done soon ish too, those are boring, im not in rush :)
seasnake will be done when i get it for pathfinder quest
