Global-2, Bidding VW's Dual Bid Auctions Explained
I was asked earlier today by True_Man to explain the dual bid policy I use when Auctioning off Loot spots or other auctioned items that have 2 winners. So when I tried to explain it to him, he seemed more inclined to debate me.. love a good discussion like the next guy, but was impossible to spend the time to discuss with him while trying to run 20 guys thru the auction gambit..
But he did make a good point, so i'll explain how to bid (and Win!) on my auctions.
First, a dialogue on a single auction. This will help illustrate the process I use for for matching bids later, so please bear with me.
Ok.. lets say joey234 offers 10k fish depot for auction as he has done in the past.
Bidders start around 20 ussually for this sort, and it moves its way up the scale and end with a high bid of 85. If two people bid this 85g, i will take the first bidder on my screen at 85 as the high bidder. I will announce who the HB belongs to, and if the other 85 bidder does not up the bid, then the auction is sold. Pretty standard stuff.
Now, for a dialogue on a two winner auction
Example: Celedron shows up, with his ever famous BK 2 LS FF, Min - 1400 (two winners for the Black Knights Adventure, 2 loot spots, Fast Finish, minimum starting bid of 1400).
Generally 2-3 bidders will start at 1400, where it will quickly rise into the 1500-1600 range. This is where the matching bids generally comes into play. SO here is a little role play, fo all to follow.
Bidder1: 1400
Bidder2: 1450
Bidder3: 1500
Bidder2: 1500
Vanderwolfe: 1500/1500 HB
Ok.. stopping here, becuase now, i have a matching high bid. If there are no further bets, the auction will close. Generally it goes up my 10 25 or 50g at this stage per bidder. And matches occur quite often. Now lets us continue.
Bidder4: 1600
Bidder3: 1550
Bidder1: 1625
Bidder2: 1600
Vanderwolfe: 1625/1600 HB (Bidder1/Bidder4)
Ok... i will stop here.. cuz for whatever reason, a second bid of 1600 came in. Beit lag or what not, in this case, the bidder2's bid of 1600 is disregarded. and I will announce the high bids. in this case, the first 1600 bid from Bidder4.
So, lets say it continues.. and a new bidder enters the scene.
Bidder5: 1625
VanderWolfe: 1625/1625 new HB (Bidder1/Bidder5)
Bidder4: 1650
Ok.. stopping again.. here, what has happened is the two matching bids of 1625 exist, but only 1 of them can win the loot spot. In this case, I favor the first bidder, just like if it were a single item auction, which was noted above, and thus the new high bids will be announce. The onus to bid and be the high bidder first, in this case benefits that bidder in the event a new high bid comes out. This is why I tell people always bid +5... it will maybe win you a spot!
Vanderwolfe: 1650/1625 (Bidder 4/Bidder1)
Bidder1: 1700
Now, alot of you might be panicing here , saying he cant raise his own bid!.. I allow this, as it has changed the entire dynamic that a new bid can be received. If it was not allowed, then a new bidder could bump you out of your precious slot by a simple +5 bid.. but by allowing you to up your bid, you've made that new entry point 55gold higher now.. This serves to preserve a potential winning bid, and is of course in benefit of the seller.
So.. continuing on.. no new bids are received..
Vanderwolfe: 1700/1650 HB (Bidder1,Bidder4)
.... 10-15 seconds past
Vanderwolfe: Going once
Vanderwolfe: Twice
Vanderwolfe:Sold
Vanderwolfe: Next up Seller2
This Celedorn at this point will message the two winning bidders and the will proceed to wrap up the loot spots. I however, will announce the next new bidder. Often times tips are sent for sorting thru all the bids by the sellers.
