I have been trying to log in off and on all day. While i can finally log in technically, the game won't load. It gets to the part where it starts to draw the island then says there is a server zone error and it crashes.

same here. All day. I sent a support ticket and they never got back to me.
24 hours and still can not get online. Contacted my credit card company and they said if its not fixed in a reasonable time I can claim my money paid out in the game.
Hope it is fixed soon

i played all day after the crash, and it just booted me and says the zone has crashed, pretty pissed about this, my gold chain is running
i got a reply that says they are aware of the problem and working on it. come on all ready! my gold mine has run out for sure by now and i was not able to add gold or trash and reclaim resources. not to mention i dont know how many other resources nodes.

Ubisoft's Epic Fail Continues...
To add injury to insult I now cannot visit the Adventure Zone or invite a friend to the Black Knights adventure I was in when last night's server crashes occurred...
Every time I attempt to either visit the zone or invite a friend to the zone I get a Server Call Failure and Zone Error and I am disconnected from the game's Home Zone Island!
Please correct this problem ASAP as I have had to apologize to the friends already involved that were given assurances that this adventure would
be completed by now... One friend has a fast general trapped there along with my 10 Generals and almost 2,100 troops that are now lost... :(
Once again to repeat this information: I cannot access the adventure; my generals; or troops. I cannot visit the adventure's zone island and I cannot invite the second friend to the adventure as promised. I get disconnected when attempting to do any of the above actions and the one friend that is already in the adventure is screwed as well!
I will NOT be buying any more gems or adding to your corporate financial bottom line until this is resolved and assurances are given to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
With the money you make on this game you can choose to provide adequate support with sufficient backup servers and still make a handsome profit...
Obviously that's not good enough and you have chosen to be greedy by clearly providing substandard support, inferior account security for your customers (the numerous Players of The Settlers Online), and have demonstrated an innate inability to properly communicate with the game's community of Players when epic failures such as this one occur...
I am still waiting for any response from your technical support staff after sending two tickets in two days!

P.S. I will even forgive the loss of the gems spent on the Barracks Improved Drill Plan Buff that still had 5 hours left if I can get my Generals and troops back with another Black Knights adventure to properly complete and compensate the friends with.
well Pteris, at least it looks like you can log in! I cant even do that! going on 30 hours or more now! Getting real tired of trying to get into game.
Yes that really sucks! Sorry to hear that... I don't know what's worse, not getting in at all or getting in to find out all your Generals and troops are gone and you have to let your friends down!
Either way there is no excuse for this poor level of support and communications!!!
I just thought the people who could not log in were banned for a day. There is a member of my guild who was the only person able to log on during the crash. Now that things are up and running again he seems to be banned. It could be that by him being able to log in during the downtime that data was corrupted. If that is the case it may be a total lose... :(

can't zoom in or out w/ mouse wheel anymore - and when I try to use the built in map mover - it shoots me back to the Home Page!!!

Know your feeling Zombie. I was able to make small actions every 5-10 login attempts. After an hour I was able to switch off my gold chain before lvl 5 mines collapsed and smelters/coinages an unbuffed too long.
i cant get on.down for days.......
I have been off since the 20th and have not been able to go any further than the login and then it comes back with server call failed, i read one of the peoples notes about his credit card co. saying he might get back what he put into the game
Well it's been 3 or 4 days now for me. My daughter can log in just fine now but if she visits my island it tells her the zone has an error and kicks her offline. I sent in a complaint yesterday and there is a ticket on it but nothing. Maybe when the servers go down tonight they will fix it but i doubt they will give us the daily log in rewards that we should have gotten over the past few days. today woudl have been gem day for me. I'm pissed.

Ubisoft: Free-to-play will affect all of our games

During an investor conference call today, Ubisoft’s chief financial officer Alain Martinez claimed that the free-to-play model will influence all of its future games.
The French publisher detailed the benefits of giving away the razor only to charge for the blades.
“Free-to-play is a very flexible business model,” said Stéphanie Perotti, Ubisoft’s worldwide director of online. “The player has the capability to spend more than in a traditional model.”

“The Settlers Online is set to make more money in four years than the Settlers brand did on PC over nine years,” Perotti said.

Ubisoft expects to earn €50 to €60 million just from its free-to-play and casual games in fiscal 2013. That’s up from €20 million in 2012. That kind of money is going to turn heads in the company, and Ubisoft has obviously implemented a standing order for all of its teams to implement some of the lessons its learned from free-to-play.
So the latest Ubisoft news is all about the corporate profits and zip about providing adequate support to their customers like those Players buying their Gems in The Settlers Online…
Or should it currently be called: “The Settlers Offline?”
Because numerous dedicated Players of Ubisoft’s game have been unable to login or play the game since this last Sunday’s Server Crash and some have been experiencing similar problems long before that.
My own personal experience involves The Black Knights adventure with the loss of: two Veteran Generals; six Battle Hardened Generals; two normal Generals; and approximately 2,100 troops consisting of Elite Soldiers, Crossbowman, Cavalry, Militia, and Recruits and also where a visit to the adventure’s Zone or an invite for a Friend to it gets you completely disconnected from the game!
So two Contact Forms and four days on and I have received one generic response from 'The Settlers Online' Support Team which included:
“We are currently aware of this issue and do apologize for the delay in responding. We are still investigating the matter and will post updates on the forum as necessary. We apologize for any inconvenience this matter has caused you. Also please refrain from sending in multiple tickets about the same issue as we are working hard to assist everyone as soon as we can.”
Let's just say that protection of their customer’s accounts, timely technical support, and courteous communications apparently isn’t Ubisoft’s strong suit…
I wonder if they actually examine how much gem buying (paying) customers that directly contribute to that €50 to €60 million profit are worth keeping happy or do they just expect us to keep paying no matter how inadequate their customer support becomes or until they can come up with the next big game to make people keen on separating themselves from hard earned cash?
How much of that €50 to €60 million in Ubisoft profits would it take to provide top of the line 24/7 support that could be contacted when problems occur and immediately restore the integrity of their game?
I have been playing computer games for over 35 years and I have never seen such poor conduct of business practices from such a profitable company as is currently involved with The Settlers “Online.” Even the Blizzard franchise after suffering under rampant cost cutting greed by Firaxis Games which earned Ds and Fs for their customer support in ratings from the Better Business Bureau didn’t take days or weeks to resolve their Players’ technical issues.
So for me it’s “The Settlers Offline” and I am currently boycotting any more financial contributions such as buying Gems or purchasing other Ubisoft associated merchandise until they get their priorities straight on who provides them prosperity.
After investing so much time and real money I hate to just walk away but depending on the outcome I may just do that and be better for it in the long run…

This is a 'streaming spreadsheet game' like ikariam and Ogame. THOSE games (by Gameforge) run 3 servers in parallel. One preserves the data , one provides a working mirror , one is where the players actively run. When they have these problems , they can fall back on a mirror , roll back to a data set before the crash and bring things back online.
This gives time for the tech arm to find what went wrong while everyone can still play.
They should freeze and boot everyone from advents , putting the advent back in the star menu of the person who launched it, set player islands back to the state they were on the last viable login with gold chain closed and buffs restored. Theres still progress loss this way but at least everyone gets back what they may have spent.
Also game play could be restored without the need of a one week (REALLY?) downtime.
A bot with a set of rules could run the whole stream and set everyone straight in a matter of hours.
I guess BB is new to free to play. Well schools in. Look around you at the existing community , copy what works , avoid what doesnt and get your house in order because your accomplishing all kinds of fail here with the currrent modus opperandi lol.
Yeah I have played only a week. Glad I haven't invested any money into the game yet. If I had, there would be a nice charge back from Visa for services not rendured or product not received. I would just skip the asking for a refund and just hit up my credit card company. I play a few other free to play games that I choose to PAY to play. This is by far the biggest disappointment I have ever seen. Great game, but the server downtime is killing it. Every game has maintenance periods, typically 3 or 4 hours a week. This game has been down more then it is up. Guess I will quit now and come back in a month or so when they work out the problems.

We also would like to inform you (with our apologies) that there will be a rollback implemented. The scale of the rollback is not known at this time, but we want you to be aware that it will be happening. Im not really surprised by this...this is exactly what happened to Evony when it came out, once a company realizes that it can offer a game to the people and make more then the standard rate of buying 1 hardware version game (ie settlers7) then the management of this game becomes about the bottom line and nothing else...even after this event is fixed they will continue to try and balance between maximum profits, and the minimum ammount of tech support/customer service they can afford that will still get the majority of players to pay into the game
one gem pit costs 100 dollars...you do not get to keep the account, and at anytime they can ip ban you for ANY reason (even a made up one) the business model is set up to the effect that it works on a bell curve...if we offer X ammount of support and make Y ammount of money, they work X until they find the greatest gap between X and Y, and this is ALWAYS a substandard service of customer support and technical issues...quite frankly...I believe more then a "boycott" of this franchise is in order...this game was CLEARLY NOT READY to go live, many of these issues should have been hashed out in a player tested beta where no option to pay should have been allowed, but because the "bottom line" was too appetizing, they went ahead with it.
perhapse if...in unison...all players on the zues server demanded a refund of 50% of their total invested income into the game and not only agreed to boycott their franchise, but also used social media to effectively spread this dissatisfaction in UbiSoft, this would result in very bad PR for the company, and this negative PR would continue until UbiSoft agreed to refund 50% of total earned income from paying players...the refund, I believe, is in order because anytime you create a business, or a product, it must first be deemed "safe or ready for public use" this was clearly not the case in the instance of TSO...perhapse if, rather then just a slightly slower fiscal period next month, they lost money due to the massive ammounts of refunds they had to issue...perhapse they would actually hire more then 3 people to work on the entire server's tech issues...I can see this as the only viable option for players to take simply because TSO, as a business, will not change the way it treats the game or its players until they do not make money off of it...a nice fat negative in a financial report is the best way to do that when dealing with a group of people hiding behind the guise of a "company"
just my 2 cents, i was able to log on until approx 90 minutes ago, had no real issues like others are describing...that being said, next time i won't be so lucky so i choose to voice my opinion now.
hmm . I guess i'm not going to complain . Everyone has done it for me . I will say though , I can't get on the game .
Naah i haven't lost any money on this game and never will. I refuse to spend money on what I call bait and switch games. If they advertise that it is free. I will never give them a dime for any of the perks. If the game is not worth playing without the perks then I just wont play. I don't like the drug dealer tactic they use. I find it insulting and refuse to give money to companies like this.
My gold chain is running alos...very upset about all this as i am wasting real money on getting stuff for upgrades and now i am stuck
What about a roll back for todays constant problems? i have contact my credit card company and they informed me that i can get a credit back for services not recieved...been playing this game 7 months and feeling like it's time to move on
only worry here is my gold chain is also running. plus all mines have crashed by now. We really need something good to happen after this week.
