Agreed...and what stuns me here is that in-game Dreadmine is a very helpful player...so seeing his response here is well stunning

yeah....it amazes me how some people can switch off and on like that..... but ya know what, i suppose this could be a good thing depending how you look at it, there are alot of ppl quitting, so maybe that will help Ubi an BB fix this once and for all..... (this has happened before, and will certainly happen again if they dont do it correctly) and maybe next time before putting a game out they will have it tested and re-tested so they wont have to fix bugs on this real time game (which is not only time consuming, but causes alot of other issues , such as the one we are experiencing now) i mean, this game has been OUT for over a year already...... why havent the kinks been worked out yet? someone must have jumped the gun on the release date, or else we wouldnt be having this convo!
yep released from closed beta much too soon now we have a test server to try and fix and add to the "finished one"
You all are speaking as if the "rollback" is optional; quite often they are not. Data corruption, especially from the addition of new data, can corrupt a server so completely that the only way to fix the problem is to remove the corruption and reinstall a new, and I do mean completely different, set of data; usually this comes from a backup. Unfortunately, this means that the changes that have taken place from the time of that data save WILL NOT EXIST any longer. Fortunately for those that have spent money on this or other web based games, those funds are almost always kept on another style of server, not the expensive one that is rigged for intensive use of thousands of people at the same time. Coincidentally, this is why there is a time delay while making monetary purchases before the purchase shows up "in-game".
It is my distinct opinion that the overworked souls at UBI and BB are franticly trying to remove the corruption and restore that back-up data. Once that is done they will attempt to return the purchases to those that have made them. After which they will probably make reparations to everyone in the form of some in-game reward, such as gems, coins, a special building, or the like... Possibly all three, but don't hold your breath. These bonuses may be adjusted by level, or contain level restrictive (oh you can't use that until your level 35, 40, 50 etc) materials.
Hope to see most of you return when the game starts to function again.
BTW this is a war game; you fight bandits constantly after level 17. It is NOT a PVP game. It never has been, and if it becomes one there will have to be some serious game reform. In its current form, the game cannot withstand the pressures involved in that kind of format. If that is the type of game you like, try another as this one will never be your cup of tea.

I can understand that many players are frustrated and upset because they are afraid that they may lose gems that they have paid cash for but there are viable solutions to that problem. Most of you don't even know what you may have lost or what will be done about it so you are ranting and raving and getting upset before you even know if it will be an issue. Let's give them a chance before we rant and rave about these issues. Remember that they serve a world wide base of players that have access to a computer and that want to play the game on the server that is down. I just want them to fix the problem as well and as fast as they can so I can get back to my game and my contacts on the game.

"Incremental backup"....................just saying might be a good idea!!
And I produce 100+ gems a day I expect it all to be there when things are turned back on. 50 gems just isn't going to cut it for me!
So, you spent $100 USD to buy a gem mine... I can see why you'd be dissatisfied. The rest of this is NOT directed at CognitiveChaos. This game is... something to pass the time. Some of you "chat" with "friends" and pass more time. Some of you have done what people have done on the internet for almost 20 years and with pen and paper for 100+ years before that... you have made connections with people and things that seem more real than they are because you WANT them to be that way... period. End of story. Have some perspective. This really IS just an internet game... nobody is dying here. Nobody got shot, hurt, or had to have chemo-therapy to get here.... R.E.L.A.X.
love how ya lump everyone into one group by stating the "you all act...." i dont believe for one second that 3/4 are acting like this wasnt necessary.... i am perdy sure people were just talkin bout how ubi and bb might have been able to go about it a diff way than they did..... maybe should have stated last night when we went down for maintenance that they would be fixing this and it would be down for 24/h or a cpl days...... not giving their consumers answers wasnt the best most reasonable choice on their part....
Just fix the F'ing thing ya bastards
I think a free Veteran General would be cool.
It's just a game argument is the same as it's just a job argument.
So you've put 15 years in with the company, so what? You were paid for every hour of work. And you CHOSE to spend your time there, you weren't forced to be there.
What you spend your time doing is valuable to you. What you invest effort in has a purpose. What you choose to busy yourself with to make everyday life more rewarding is important. If the above statements aren't true, why do you still exist?
The point being, you put effort or time into something with reasonable expectations of a certain outcome, based on promises from another party. If the other party fails to follow through on their promises, you should feel cheated. If you do not, you're time doing that activity was worthless anyway, and you shouldn't even have been there.
Don't discount the value of someone elses time invested into a game, or into anything, simply because your time and effort is worthless.
Well said.
The thing is, that people who keep saying "it's just a game" somehow think that everyone has to think and feel the same way they do and care about the same things they do...and that's the problem I've been having here.
As far as BB/UBI goes with the server problems...this stuff happens. You play MMO's long enough and you come to expect this...especially if the game is still in beta. As I've said before what gets me is the way they are going to fix it with a roll back which will cause harm and frustration to EVERYONE for the sake of a few, and if that REALLY is the only way to fix things then fine, but if that's the case then I do expect some reparations for what I will lose through no fault of my own.
And I reject the notion that "it's just a game" doesn't work. Is Google "more than a search tool"? No. Is Android more than a smartphone? No.
Human nature? Take a class? Attend a meeting at a Stupa? Read Balzac. Whatever... Think of what I said. Did you get hurt? (Let's use "you" in the ambiguous second person and not really to mean "you, person who said I ignored you". Now, having lost something in the game, do you need therapy? Do you need medication? Did the "friends" you have in the game miss you? Do they need counseling? Did you lose money? Time? Your sense of dignity? ... Even if ANY of these are true, gambling is also "just a game" ... and people wreck their lives - but that's THEIR choice.
The admonition to , "Have some perspective," is apparently lost here. The time everyone has invested here must be more important than the time that, say, Olympic swimmers who lose their race invest training... they probably feel they deserve a medal, no?
No worries. I recommend therapy and medication (makes it seem more important) ... and getting a pen pal. <--- another place where (second person) you can make connections that SEEM more important than they really are. This is and always will be a game. Unless you work for Ubisoft... it will just be an IP address you frequent - like Google, gun and knife websites and free-porn links. Have some perspective. Oh... and relax.
And perspective alert... most states are right to work states, so according to the law, most jobs are... just jobs, and while gambling losses are tax deductible, the casino never gives you a refund for losing if you choose to stay at a table...
I haven't read all the replies, but I appreciate the tech staff working the issue. Also, good luck to those fielding all the complaints, I do appreciate you keeping us in the loop.
This entire post of yours is one that will likely be deleted by a BB/UBI mod for attacking someone else.
As for what you said...you obviously did not understand a word I said, or just ignored it, because you then repeated the same "it's just a game" meme using a lot more words.
P.S. I have a background in behavioral psychology and belief systems...just FYI
Why are you even here, if it's worthless time? And if your time invested in anything is worthless, why do you waste good quality breathing air for people that matter? What hurt are you speaking of, physical, mental....and are we speaking of pain crossing a threshold of that individual or limits set by you? What is important if not what you spend your time doing and how you interact with the world...or is it only important if people communicate, participate and perceive things as you do?
Always some self-righteous, self-important, more enlightened cretin to assign value to other people's time and effort.
Go do something important if this is nothing to you. And quit wasting our air.
That was no more an attack than was your post, but if that's the final judgement of the mods, I will accept it and so will you? Why do you ask, will we accept it if it happens?
Because it's just a game. Lol. Really.
When someone actually HAS perspective, it's funny how those who don't have it think their position is so deeply sound.
People have been pretending online "relationships" are more important than they really are since the internet was invented, and before that, women married their prison pen pals believing that words on a paper meant "he must have changed."
Things have NOT changed in human nature. Many are making this situation out to be more important than it is or will ever be (hence why I point out that it's not cancer or requires medication) ... but again... I did not ignore your argument. I rejected it and over-arched it with a deeper one.
That said, I will be upset if I lose several hundred gems or gc, but I won't call a therapist or a lawyer. <--- Perspective.
That's not perspective that's wearing blinders...your point of view and only your point of view is valid and everyone else MUST believe as you do.
Zuma put it best "Always some self-righteous, self-important, more enlightened cretin to assign value to other people's time and effort." ...and that's the point, the point you keep hand waving away without addressing, the point that you are trying to tell other people what they should and should not care about, what they should and should not think of as important.
By the way, you did attack me, you said I needed medication and therapy. That is a personal attack which the mods do not like. I however have not attacked you personally, I have only argued your lack of points and your lack of arguments
Wow, OK, that was a total waste of 10 minutes of my life reading the responses.
However, I should state that in the last 24 hours before downtime I had won a black castle, a white castle, one of those cool triumphant archways, and all kinds of other cool stuff. Totally. And I might get my knickers all in a bunch if I don't get that plus more. ( just in case being a squeaky wheel works... )
Anyway, good luck and good night.
No one should have announced or recommended there should be a rollback. Period.
Let's part company with some more seething self righteousness... I ask nobody to accept my point of view. I point out how things work. Evaluate the following statement: People get over-involved with their internet connections to the detriment of other interests.
Did you answer 1. True? 2. False? or 3. Wow, you have blinders and are full of self righteousness. If you answered 1, you win. But you win nothing. This is the internet, remember?
I said that medication and therapy would be a way to make this "game" seem more real. If you infer I think YOU need medication and therapy, you mistake the intent. My apologies.
That said...
The point of psychotherapy isn't to tell you what you need to do, it's to get you to realize, maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, that YOU know what the problem is and YOU have the ability to solve it.
So Answer 1, 2 or 3. It matters little. But I promise you that maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but someday, if you continue to "ignore" how this tool you are using (the internet and really all communication) works, then you (and again, this is the ambiguous second person you, not YOU)... might accidentally marry someone in prison...
did you (as in YOU) have to google Stupa? (oops, too self righteous?) ... just curious. Enjoy the "game" and be well. :)
The idea of a rollback has totally off put alot of people... specially those who spend real money to buy gems YOU HEAR THAT UBISOFT real money I will encourage other not to spend money on this game if my gems are not where they should be . <period
At this point( this is the second time they dropped the ball like this...) I have to agree a "refund rollback" from them would be ideal...hell..Ill apologize to them profusely as they return my money...and, if fixing these issues is going to be done like the PvP theyve dangled in front of us for...over a year?...well..it will happen again then, like it happened in the past. The blame will be put down as "so in sos cookies in his comp caused everyones net to fail" or something as totally absurd! Last time they "claimed" to have fixed the issues, it hadnt let a single player who was locked out return...I know, cause, I was one of them. Bottom line...its not a new issue, its the exact same one! And...it was never fixed the first time, so, really...I dont expect it will be this time either. I will give them the benefit of the doubt though...they said tomorrow it will be fixed...if its not fixed tomorrow though, I am more then likely done with this lousy app, and, probably ubisoft as well. Enoughs enough! Every one here BUT the devs have done their part to make this game a success...time to realize, the players are the only ones who matter in this equation...without us, you got nothing but a bunch of useless codes...
At least you can be honest some times
but you are. Why else tell everyone that "it's just a game" and they need to have perspective? You are trying to tell everyone else what to think and believe and what they should care about. Look at your exact words...
That is exactly telling others what they should think and believe.
No, you point out how you see things...again, that's the a big part of the point I've been making all along, but it seems to keep going right over your head, either intentionally or unintentionally.
And once again you ignore what I am saying, because this is you again trying to force your "value systems" onto everyone else. What makes your "value system" better than everyone elses?
Mmmmm, no. That may come into "some" psychotherapy but to say the point of psychotherapy is what you just said (and implying that's all it is) tells me you really don't know what you are talking about.
So if someone had to google Stupa what does that mean to YOU? Or do you expect everyone to know everything? I mean from that question ("did you have to google Stupa?") I can assume that you know absolutely everything right?
It's funny you telling me what the point of psychotherapy is, but I won't tell you why, and I bet it's not what you think. And the point of asking you about Google was to point out the use and value of a tool, versus the fact it is just that... a tool. You gained nothing but a piece of information if you did. The fact you think it was a judgement on education or intelligence only occurs to me when you point it out. But I guess nothing I say has a single intent.
So if the mod does delete all these posts, will you be upset? and why?
Again, I wish you wellness and to enjoy this or any other game you play. We all deserve happiness, and perspective. Thank you for your time.
This is just a game.
Let's evaluate this.
Webster's defines a game as such:
a competitive activity involving skill, chance, or endurance on the part of two or more persons who play according to a set of rules, usually for their own amusement or for that of spectators.
That sounds about right for TSO. After all, running adventures requires some skill, and a little chance... and you certainly need endurance to keep frickin' playing all day every day. And certainly more than two people play, and yes, we all play according to a set of rules and *GASP* Wait! What's that word? AMUSEMENT Man, that's a pesky word, isn't it? Well let's look that one up to, just to be safe.
amusement:
anything that amuses; pastime; entertainment.
Wait.. there's yet another word! entertainment! I could keep going but i hope you get the basic idea and i'll move on to more pressing issues.
The fact is that this is, yes, a game. You can't argue that. This is not real life. This is not your job. You are not being paid to work on your island. In face it's quite the opposite, you're paying for the privilege to play on their servers. And let's be clear on that one. go ahead and flip over to the TOS and the EULA. I know.. i know.. nobody likes reading these things. But your island isn't YOURS. It's BB's. All that hard work? Doesn't mean squat. You could be banned tomorrow and your entire island gone in a flash. You could be accidentally deleted. There's a whole list of things that could potentially happen and in no way, shape, or form is BB held liable to do jack diddly squat about it.
Do they lose you as a customer? Sure they do. Do they care? Probably not. with over 1.5 Million players worldwide, a few thousand leaving Zeus isn't going to impress them much. It's all about perspective. You *think* you are far more important to blue byte's well being than you really are. You are but one user of millions. And with MT games (microtransaction)... the odds are in their favor that more people buy gems than dont, so them missing out on your $20/month isn't going to cripple them.
Lastly is the more pressing issue that underlies everything else in the "It's just a game" argument:
And there's no lol's or smiley faces here, i'm serious. Internet addiction is a serious thing. And if you're getting this worked up over the loss of however much data gets rolled back and however much time you were unable to play the game...you may need some form of therapy because you may have a serious disorder. See... normal people, and i'm not counting myself as entirely normal, but merely stating another point of view... they tend to view games as games. they don't get mad when they lose at UNO. They don't get upset because the playstation network went down again. They don't get mad when TSO goes down. They don't get mad when they get chat-banned for an hour. And in a lot of cases, they probably wouldn't get mad if they get straight out banned. they'd just shrug their shoulders and move on to a different game of the month.
Do I buy gems? Yes i do. Would i be upset if i lost them? Probably not. I tend to buy what i need, and use them all up. so if anything a rollback might actually GIVE me more gems than i had.
Do i enjoy playing TSO? As anyone who goes into Help can attest to, i play 5-6 hours a day, and try to play every day, but i have a real life outside of TSO that kicks in sometimes. In short, i play TSO as much as some people work for a living. And yet, i'm not razzed that the servers are down like some of you butthurt folks are.
Am I okay with a rollback? Not really okay with it. I hate to think of how far back they have to go and how much work i've got to do to get back to where i was before the servers crashed. But you know what the kicker is? That actually makes it okay, because it gives me something to strive for. It really gets boring running the same dozen adventures over and over, training more troops to run the same dozen adventures over and over, rebuildings fields wells and copper mines, rebuilding fields, wells and copper mines.
But knowing that I had [x] gold or had just gotten [items]... i've got something to look forward to.
If anyone has blinders and believes t heir point of view is the only right one, i'd like to hand you a mirror Falconwolf, and let you re-read all your posts in this thread and see them for the ramblings of someone who is wearing the largest blinders of them all. Anyone who agrees with your point of view you're quick to praise and laugh it up, but anyone who disagrees with you is somehow narrowminded and "just spouting the meme"...
When you think everyone else is the problem, and everyone else thinks it's you, odds are it's you.
When you think everyone else is the problem, and everyone else thinks it's you, odds are it's you.
...there it is...dreadmines the problem, and he/she had the gonads to say so...kudos! Now...lets lynch the bugger! 3:)
I didn't try telling you what it is, you tried telling me what it is, and you missed a lot of it. And as to why it would be funny well I don't even bother to wonder why because it means nothing to me, but if you persist then you might want to go back and re-read some of my previous posts!
It really sounds to me like you are just trying to "win the argument", and if that's the case then please stop trolling. Of course it occured to you, why else would you mention a completely irrelevant word that few people would have heard of?
Now you really are trolling. Please go do that somewhere else!
Oh Dreadmine, using logic is no where near as persuasive as is stating your opinion or discussing how seriously offended you are by the actions of a nameless, faceless entity to which you voluntarily give your time, energy and money, don't you know that? (I'm not even going to point out how sarcastic that statement is.. oh, I just did... )
*deletes the stuff that was already said earlier and already countered*
And once again you miss the entire point.
You see though Dreadmime, what I've been saying is that everyone's point of view, everyone's "value systems" ARE valid, how that makes me wearing the blinders is one for the "WOW, did he really just say that" book. I've never said you can't have the "value system" for this game that YOU have, I have only said that you should stop trying to force YOUR "value system" onto everyone else by telling them "It's just a game and relax"
But it wasn't countered. You and a couple others in the same think-speak expressed your opinion. You won't even answer a direct (and kind of easy) question without calling it trolling.
I wasn't trying. Do or do not... I don't think I was in the latter camp. And I guess one man's truth is another man's trolling. You can't even take a wish of health and happiness in stride. I'm beginning to think this is just personal. I hope you get tons of gems and time and whatever else it is you wish for. As for me, I will take my disabilities, cancer and the satisfaction that the struggle itself is enough to fill the hearts of men. (JFGI) .... that stands for just ***** google it.
Yes, they were countered because you jonmmemonic and dreadmime have both said that "it's just a game" and "people should relax", and we have pointed out why that doesn't work, why it's flawed and wrong. The fact you don't want to accept it is another thing altogether.
You see, me "and a couple others" (notice how the majority are suddenly expressed as a minority here eh folks!!) have been pointing out that you jonmmemnic and you dreadmime have blinders on trying to force your "value systems" on to everyone else while me "and a couple others" have at the same time been saying that all "value systems" are valid and you should stop trying to fit your "value systems" on everyone else.
That really really is what I "and a couple others" have been saying all along, while you jonmnemonic and dreadmime keep telling me "and a couple others" how we are sick and need therapy and drugs because we don't have your "value systems"
Do you really not see that? I really truly understand how a person can not see something that's right in front of their face..quite literally, and if you bothered to go back and re-read what i've posted you will see why I truly do understand how you might really not see what's right in front of your face!
The question was completely irrelevant and meaningless to this topic, it was "off-topic" and just a distraction..in other words "trolling"
Ya, now your telling me what my reaction was to your wish of health and happiness when i never commented on it. Are you psychic as well?
What was your reaction?
And what WOULD you feel/do if they deleted all these posts?
I just want to know, because as awesome as I seem on the internet, I'm NOT psychic.
