So you'd be upset about them deleting our posts wherein we banter back and forth about the meaning of our time here on the server? Ok Got it.
Now... what was your reaction when I said I wish you wellness and happiness?

I see you really don't know how I reacted to the server problems, maybe you should stop trying to make me into what you want me to be and start looking at what I actually say!
Now, tell me, what exactly is the purpose of asking what my reaction was to something you said?
EDIT: adding links to my previous posts on the server problems so you can stop making stuff up about what I said and how I am reacting...

So tell me again how I am acting/reacting?
There's something you need to realize. Just because someone has a different opinion/viewpoint does not make their opinion/viewpoint wrong.
Your words, not mine. So because i have a different opinion/viewpoint, does not make my opinion/viewpoint wrong. However, that's pretty much what you've said for the last 7 pages and you've mostly been alone in saying them. The last 7 pages have pretty much been you and Jon going back and forth with your opinions and viewpoints and honestly, Jon saying 'I understand why you're upset but it's just a game" and you saying "AHJHHHHH! SCREW YOU! IT'S NOT A GAME! IT'S REAL LIFE! AHHHHH YOU'RE SO WRONG! I HATE YOU! I HATE YOU!"
You probably don't see it that way, but seriously....that's the truth of it. I'd go quote more of your posts but i'm really not that invested in this argument between you and Jon. I don't think Jon is either. IF anyone's "trying to win" ... it's you. And i suspect you will win because Jon will get tired of responding to you, which you will take as having made your point finally.
Anyone who has ever played online games consistently knows that all of them have a lengthy downtime, server crash, or issue, at some point, it just goes with the territory. I'm sure Ubi will work to fix it ASAP and try please the most people with reparations and some sort of rollback. It's funny to see how worked up people have gotten before any details have some out, but I guess that just goes with today's 'blame everyone else and whine nonstop' attitude.
JonMnemonic and Falconwolf, please take this to private messages. At this point, it's derailed the thread into a personal argument. Thank you.
I agree completely. I've been playing on computers since 1988. I've been around. I've played countless online games all the way back to WWIV and Spitfire (which probably most of you will have to google to find out what they are.) And yes, allllllllllllllllll the way back there, you had game domains/doorways go down. You suddenly couldn't play your favorite game. And yes.... you had the same whining and complaining.
Nothing's changed over the last 24 years except this weird sense of entitlement from newer players that feel something is "owed" to them, because they are somehow special or whatever. Personally I laugh at those threads like Rollback Refund, where people want money back (or equivalent gems) for all the time they're losing in an online game. It just boggles my mind. I know i've said it before and I know people really seem to not like the phrase, but this really is just a game. If you don't like it, call it a loss and walk away and never come back. I'm sure your participation will be sorely missed in the coming weeks and years. People will go "Wow, what ever happened to that guy who used to whine in the forums all the time? I really miss him. He was just so fun to be around." Right?
ya know... i was told by someone you play with that you are actually a very very nice person..... so maybe these posts of yours are just a reflection that you are actually angry bout the game being down too..... cuz it seems to me that you been doing ALOT of whining and complaining about the whining and complaining.... ...... just sayin.....
cuz this is surely NOT the first time you have whined and complained about the whiners and complainers! again, just sayin.....
I am a very nice person, but I, like many people, have many opinions that i don't normally share in HelpChat because it's not the place for them. I do what I can to help new users and i enjoy hanging out with the usual helpchat crew that tends to hang out there as well. But this isn't the helpchat and these aren't new users. These are, to me, a bunch of whiny little brats who are upset at their virtual parents for taking their video game away. Maybe it's because i've got a daughter who's graduating high school this year that leaves me in the position of saying "Grow up and get over it. It's just a video game. There are more aspects to your life than this." :P Cause if TSO is the pinnacle of your social life and your reason for being, there's some deeper issues that need to be worked out. And this is coming from someone who practically lives on TSO's servers, but understand that [beep] happens. It's bound to happen. it's going to happen. it's practically all but guaranteed to happen. And you have to accept that fact. *shrugs* :P
Hard to say what it should be just yet as we do not know how long it will be down and not less when they bring it some players do not play on the weekend and will lose out on Advs they have started or mines that they normal have sleeping so there is alot that can be lost unless they sleep everyone island until they get back online when they do get it fixed but even then you lose out on the 36 hour buff that you may have paid for or traded for, but it would be a better place to start then losing months of work in the game. Just my 2 cents
Well I've posted links to what I have said, so why do you insist on continuing on with ascribing to me actions and thoughts which are not mine?
I have never been upset over the server problems (and if i were well that's really no concern of yours and nothing to do with you), as you can plainly see from my posts over the last week. What I have been saying is for you to please stop bullying people because they have a different "value system"...here..
http://forum.thesettlersonline.net/t...l=1#post186998
So now that you see that you are wrongly ascribing thoughts and actions to me (and likely many many others) can we now move on with the topic in question!
I thought we were still on the topic in question which is whether or not we will get something for the downtime and if so, how much. BB has already said there will be some sort of compensation for this. So in that respect the thread may as well be closed. Yes, there are reparations coming. How much is a different argument, and the question becomes "how much is enough for everybody?" I'd be happy with 100 gems. I'd be happy with 1,000. I'd be delighted with 10,000. But really, i'd just be happy with 100 free gems. When the server gets rolled back yes you lose all that "hard work" you put in between then and yesterday. But guess what? Everyone's stuff goes back to. Bought 100 parrots yesterday and now they're gone? All your gold is back, buy them again! And the person you bought them from got all his gems back so he can sell them again! The list goes on where it's not that big of a deal. Lost an upgrade in progress from granite you earned? guess what! those people you bought the granite from have it again! and the adventures you ran are back in your star menu! just run them again with the troops that magically re-appeared in your army.
Does it suck to go backwards? Sure it does. nobody's arguing that point. Does it demand some sort of reparation? No, it doesn't. This is a free game. You choose to play. You choose to put your time and effort into it, and when things go wrong, as they eventually and inevitably do, you suck it up, act like a man (or woman) and soldier on.
Let's say you're hard at work at your job, stocking shelves at Wal*Mart when the power goes out. They have no idea when the power's coming back on, so they temporarily close the store and send you home. Do you demand pay for that day beyond what you worked? I mean, clearly it's not YOUR fault the power went out. You should get paid for the full 8 hour shift you were going to work! Right? It doesn't work that way. I know you'd like to think it does, but it doesn't. In the real world, where the rest of us play, you deal with these sorts of problems the only way that is rational and reasonable. You accept things the way they are and wait for the power to come back on.
Actually, your example would be more accurate if, say, you were stocking the frozen section, power went out, and, because they had to remove all of the food from the frozen section that you had stocked, decided not to pay you. (in the case of no reparations)
Or, decided to pay you for your time on the clock and the inconvenience is shared. (in the case of reparations)
except they've already said they're going to pay us. they just havent said how many hours they're going to pay, the full day or just until the power went out. :P
I suppose that's the crux of my argument anyway. BB's already said they're going to compensate the players. They're just very vague about what that really means.
now this is the kind of post i was hoping someone would put up. Thank you for showing us all that you truly are a respectable person and not passing judgement on where no judgement is due....(as in some of your previous postings) I like this side of you much more than that side of you :)
the walmart example is different from this current situation. Its a free game but people do spend money on this game.
When you spend money on a game you expect to be able to play it. It might be ok if the downtime is like few hours but this lasted nearly 1 week for some people. Now for those who manage to login and continue playing, their efforts and time will be wasted. There is no guarantee they will be able to duplicate what they've done after the rollback. 100 gems is not enough.
I just want to say for the record that I am not a nice guy, but owe thanks to Dreadmine for being good cop to my bad.
What I fear, deep down inside (cue the piano music) ... is that I really am a... what was it? Um... self-righteous cretin. Yes. That's it. *tear*
That said, and more importantly, ON TOPIC, I want me some reparations - and soon. POWER TO THE PEOPLE!
I'll take Foodstamps and an Obama phone if I can't get gems. Just sayin'
And again I can't get on . Not complaining yet . Hmm .
Oh wow . I just started within the week . I probably wont even have an account . I will also tell you now that if I have to start over , I'm not . I wont play the game again . I guess I figured out something to complain about .
You example of working a job at walmart aside (I think this argument is a little flawed) you and I are in agreement Dreadmime.
They have said they will be trying their best to compensate everyone, though they haven't said how or how much. Do I think they HAVE to compensate? No, of course not, but as a provider of a service it's in their best interest to keep their players happy (within reason of course).
I quit playing WOW a couple years ago after investing A LOT of time and energy into the game, the reason I quit was the player base, there were just WAY TOO MANY horrible people in the game, way too many to not affect my play. The GM's, the officials working for WOW themselves were all great people and I have the utmost respect for how they handled every situation (sure they were not very good the first 8 months or so), their customer service really was top notch.
Then I went to playing DDO for a couple of years, but I had to leave DDO not because of the player base (the players in DDO are really very very nice and very helpful, pretty much most of them) but because the customer service was the worst I had ever seen in an MMO and I was personally treated extremely poorly.
Now both those games have been "officially" released for quite some time, so the state of their customer service is pretty much what you are going to get. If they haven't perfected their support by now they probably are not going to.
TSO is still beta, they are still working on fixing the game so it runs as it should. Anyone who expects this game to be perfect and without bugs should remember this game is still beta. This is not an "Official Release" and if you don't like playing games that will have bugs and problems then maybe waiting for the official release would be a good idea. The customer support in this game is actually quite good...no it's not perfect, but again this is still just "beta" and from what I see what they are lacking in support is not because of trying and not because of not wanting to help the players but it's simply a lack of resources. But hey they recently hired BB_Meesherbeans so they are working on the problem.
Well it's storming here so i've closed down the job for the day. I don't do pogo crap, don't play cards can't log on, cant mow the wet lawn, can't grill anything and too lazy to do so anyway. So instead i will sit here with the rest of you try my best to get drunk before someone calls needing something and ***** until i'm tired of bitching or watching all you guys b1tch
Instead of gems, I'd like a free game of my choice. I'll even make it easy on Ubisoft and choose one of theirs: Anno 2070 (deluxe pack plus Deep Ocean and all dlc.)
This would allow me to feel compensated, and at the same time give me a somewhat similar game to play, and a chance to win me back as an Ubisoft fan. As the producer, surely Ubi is big enough to make this happen. It also would get some people interested in the upcoming Anno Online, instead of people remembering this game and thumbing their nose at the new one based on experiences here.
Just trying to be constructive and think 'outside the box'. :)
Thank you for adding your credentials beneath your signature, Taine Morgan. If you hadn't, I would have just assumed you were speaking out of your @$$ like everyone else on here (myself included).
When the server is resurrected - this is assuming I haven't moved on to more serious addictions such as heroin or murder - I shall find a way to construct a likeness of you in my town centre. I will order my settlers to bow down and pray to your likeness 5 times a day. This will illustrate just how lucky we all feel to be in the presence of such an accomplished and worthy person such as yourself.
The Scouse,
Ragamuffin, Degenerate, Ne'er-Do-Well
Yes to pay you back you will get a lifetime supply of MR. happy taken 5 times a day will cure you of all your game addictions along with a heavy regiment of therapy.
"That (rollback) actually makes it okay, because it gives me something to strive for."
lol wut? why dont you just rollback to the beginning, i.e. open up a new account and start anew... that should make you ecstatic....and all FOR FREE
Wow..these messages just keep getting longer...should I cut and paste what the last 4 people said before my post to make it longer???? It is a simple problem here: the guild quests were so bad that they fermented inside the server and contaminated the rest of the game OR the mindless chatter inside Global-1 was so unintelligent that the actual server got dumber!!! Look in those 2 spots first IT people at Ubi!!
All jokes aside, a downtime of 2 days for a MMO is pretty bad. It does not instill confidence in the developers and adminastrators of the game. The lack of updates would only lead one to believe that you have no clue and are swinging blindly hoping to hit something.
Oh and another thing , for all of you complaining about how much you lost because of the money you spend , stop spending money on this game . Its not hard to trade for what you need in a free trade chat tab . It makes you look like an idiot too . I was raise to spend my money wisely so if I did spend money on the internet it wouldn't be broadcasted her out of shame . :) have a nice day .
**** off ubi.
