New Years Resolution Contest

Bob the Settler sighed happily and sat back in his pine wood chair. It was a lovely night with a bright moon amongst twinkling stars in the sky. Their Christmas dinner had been perfectly cooked, and now the children were playing with their new toys in the main room. It was the last day of the year. He thought back over the previous year, with bizarre Rabbids and scary Grim Reaper generals, and was thankful his little Settler family made it through intact.

Who knew what the coming year would bring? He looked to the roaring fire and smiled. It could be whatever he made it to be! It was time to make a resolution, something to strive for in the coming year. Bob pondered what he should promise himself for quite some time, the crackle of flames making him sleepy. After almost succumbing to the siren call of sleep, what he should do that year hit him! He resolved to build a second silo before the coming harvest. It would make what was an easier winter this year even better the next! Mind made up, he slouched in his chair and dozed off.

The end of the year is here, and so is the time for making resolutions! Some of us will resolve to lose weight, or be nicer, or get that promotion...but what about our little Settlers? They must have ambitions and hopes for the coming new year as well! For this contest, we ask that you share what your Settlers are resolving to do in the coming 2013 year. It can be a simple sentence, a journal entry, or story; as long as it's fun, we can't wait to read it!

One grand prize winner will receive 1,000 gems and five lucky participants will receive 250 gems for their entries!

My goal for this coming year is to reach level 42, and to be a viable member in the Alliance I'm in.

Christian the sculptor: My new year’s resolution is to finally build a full size merchant statue, until this point I have only created small merchant statues, but yes this year a full sized statue, then my work will finally be done!

For a year now I have been trying to get my trainers to train hard enough to produce more than 25 of any troop, but alas, he has never succeeded. My resolution is to get my trainer to train hard enough to produce say 50 recruits at once, instead of 25!

My gogal is to hire a battle hardened general and complete each different adventure in the game.

Rumor around my island is that the more popular New Years Resolution is for everyone to be safe and start using the walking paths that way they will stop stepping in deer dung...cause there is A LOT of wildlife on the island and lets face it, it is much harder to see unless your on the paths!

That the settlers will actually go home and live in these fancy residents I built for them occasionally.

my settlers new years resolution is to work harder n improve our city, n make double the production, help the helpless, n being good citizens to our mayor, happy new year to all!!!! hope u enjoyed your Christmas.

Beginning January 1st, I will start teaching my Explorer to swim.

My resolution is to build a Fish Hatchery. This way I can produce 4 times the amount of fish the Fisherman do.

The settlers of Yukon Island [my island] have resolved to:

-Bake less gourmet bread that Sven just crumbles into fish food.
-Convince Sven that raw fish + bread does not make a Solid Sandwich, rather bacon is absolutely required. No seriously BB_Meesher, bacon is a key missing component to this game!!!
-Advise Sven that Musk Deer Fragrance is not to be worn at Christmas Gala Events, but rather spread on the ground at hunting sites.
-Cut back on the brews at the barracks so that less drunks take the field of battle.
-Help Sven realize that dropping a plate of raw fish off at a worksite is NOT a buff, it just makes us smelly.





As for me, I will spend less than one hour a day on the Internet. This, of course, will be broken 61 minutes into the New Year.

Be the king of my island and exchange with other at little price :)

My settlers have resolved to start smoking and to eat more.

I will take my explorers to see Nords, BK, and other adventures. Now they are too shy and don't bring back those. I hope the tour will help.
I will work more with the Grimm Reaper on the issue of killing his own troops. I hope he will understand that his troops are terrified and don't battle as well as other generals' troops.
I will provide additional training to the foresters. It is important that they plant the trees in the trees in their locality. No need to worry about the distant sectors as those sectors have their own foresters that can handle deforestation.

This seasons holidays were funtasticly giggly.. settlers from across the glob visited my humble isl of giggles... with snow a nd decorations galore the fun never stops ( neigther does the work)... so chubs my Savage scout third class came to me this morning with a perdicament.. the populace seems unsettled.. we have no time off.. the union is screeming.. chubs left me to ponder this problem for a few hrs....
At lunch the problem chubs brought to me had not left.. so i talked to the fish and the deer.. the hogs were of no help at all... and we came to a good resolution.. to not work the local populace so hard and to celebrate our existance on the first day of each new year.. upon announcing this new holiday for my settlers i was imediatly given the cape of giggles .. a hi honour on my island ... and all shall be welcomed with love and joy and giggles a plenty! Pie too! i like pie.. giggle this new years resolution sounds fun giggle on!

After having barely made it back from his first adventure as a recruit, Bob has decide to take up crossbow training because all of them always make it home. besides, he is also tired of being called a meat shield.

:(my resolution will be to try to be nice to ppl in global... but as all my other resolutions have failed so will this one:(
and my three explorers Max, Moritz, and Fred promise to bring back Great Treasure and Awesome Adventures.... but looking back on past work they probably won't

Our resolution is to reach level 50 by early in the new year (we're at level 46 as of this writing), to continue to prosper so we can level our village to level 5's and continue to interact with guildies and friends

The good settlers of Ankh-Morpork, shall follow example of CMOT Dibbler's entrepreneurial spirit and construct sufficient silos to obsolete the time consuming task of replanting wheat fields. Field construction plans to be detailed by BS Johnson.

The General's resolution

An arrow screamed by him missing his face by mere centimeters, more thudded into his shield and those of the soldiers around him making ominous thuds as metal hit wood. Around him his troops marched on, soldiers in tight formation and recruits running ahead taking the bulk of the damage from the arrows, ahead of them he could see the ragged lines of bandits and their rusty swords glinting in the sun they seemed to stretch on endlessly. He felt fear creeping into his mind and hastily distracted himself with thoughts of home, he imagined his family, his wife and two sons taking in the harvest on his farm back home and the warm fireplace and smell of roasting turkey, it was new years eve and they would be celebrating back at home making resolutions and feasting. The general closed his eyes and took in a deep breath and calmly let it out he opened his eyes again and now they shone with deadly determination, he sounded the charge and his orders relayed through the ranks with the sounds of resounding drums and trumpet blares, before the front lines met and steel clashed against steel he made his own resolution: To return home safe to his family after every adventure.

(I thought i'd try my hand at story writing :P)

In the town of settlers, all who work nonstop-pain staking hours, for the glory of Stewpidface, shall receive exactly one minute of sleep in their workshops..and then upon the ending of that one minute shall return to their back-breaking duties, in accordance to city doctrine, for the glory of the island.."All Hail Stewpidface!". :)

My settlers resolve to visit every adventure, despite the reputations of some, and experience all aspects of the game at least once, including pvp and events. All this while making their way to level 50+. Go! Settlers!

I resolve to use only my left hand (I am right handed) when brushing my teeth, signing checks and eating food

edit: So far 3 days in things are going well ... its actually harder than i thought ... especially the signing checks and brushing teeth part

my settlers have expressed their desire to perform random acts of kindness and to help the noobs not just in their guild but in the whole zues network.

my goal is to make my guild the bigest and best guild on the game and to help as many settler's as i can and to save all tree's

My Generals resolve to win every battle! My Explorers resolve to bring home lots of granite and when sent for an adventure, to make a good faith attempt to find something besides Outlaws or Sons of the Veldt! My Geologists resolve to stop telling me that we have found too much of _____! (fill in the blank)
And my wonderful Settlers resolve to continue their work of making Pegomine's Island a "loverly" place to live!

My Settler's New Year's Resolution is to never again allow my island to become deforested. The trees are important to the environment and I will make sure to construct enough foresters to replace every single tree to which I take my axe. Additionally, I will help my friends keep their islands green by buffing their forester's regularly.

To rule with a velvet glove and have many content citizens!

My goal is to reach level 40, and to get a vet gen. It will never happen lol

My Settlers goals are as follows : 1. Get rid of those pesky tree stumps, that stop us from making our Island better. 2. Make more Baskets. So some of us won't go hungry most of the time! 3. Build stronger Armies to protect ourselves, and destroy the mean old Witches. Who try take over our very way of life! And 4. Get all our men to stop drinking. So they can train faster and get out of the Barracks quicker. Instead of having 10 hour Parties, that hold up our production every year! There ARE more of course, but we can only hope to make a few new changes at a time. So here's to our New Years Resolutions. CHEERS!!

Kyle the Miner: I resolve to mine all the Iron ore i can, so Joe the steel weapon smith can fill the storage this year.

My goal for the next year is to get faster horses for my Generals because even my mum laughed a lot about how the deers/wolves are faster than the horses.. :P

Work out more, so that my wife will also work out !

I hope that after i get my next general then i can do more adventures and give more free loot spots to other people.

Twas the night before the New Year, and all was quiet on Wukong’s island. The settlers were in their rocking chairs or stargazing on their wide open patios. Each was pondering the upcoming year and making resolutions to himself.

For the generals, it was simple: finding a way to articulate to Wukong that sending them into bandit camps with only one recruit was not the answer.

For the geologists, each vowed to start mapping all of the copper, marble, and iron in the lands, so that it would take them less time to rediscover the deposits the second time around.

For the adventurers, well, they banded together to take on the fad Settlers diet, which meant that they would now eat less sausages on each treasure hunt.

The metal smelters vowed to be kinder to the miners, while the miners vowed to tip the geologists better to keep mines from collapsing on them so frequently. The weapon smiths, on the other hand, were tired of the hard labor and long hours. They vowed to learn another craft, maybe something a little simpler, like baking. Ironically, the bakers were sick of getting their hands sticky and wanted a manlier occupation, maybe something like a weapon smith would help out their self confidence.

The woodcutters made resolutions to beef up so they would chop faster, while the foresters wanted to spread their warnings about global warming, lest the Mayans were off a year in their predictions. The stoners and marblers resolved to create more artistic works, while the brewers were all passed out drunk from the festivities.

The farmers, hunters, and fisherman prayed for bigger catches and deposits sent from the heavens so they wouldn’t have to walk as far to the next fishing spot, herd of deer, or wheat fields.

The butchers vowed mightily to keep up with all of the new meat coming in from deerstalkers, who have showed up out of nowhere over the holidays.

The recruits vowed to show more initiative, while the bowmen vowed to be less cautious. The ponies made resolutions to eat up so they grow bulkier, while soldiers and longbows vowed to live up to the lofty standards set by their production costs.

And last but not least, mayor Wukong himself vowed to investigate and get to the bottom of why the guild quest is STILL not working.

Im gonna try to get as many Pirate Huts as possible cuz the Pirate life is for me YO HO! I want Jack Sparrow on the board!
