I gave up on trivia a long time ago, my internet isn't fast enough to compete.
I am sure the delivery can be challenging also.
I would not mind seeing more game related trivia also, I personally don't care what actor played in which movie with proper spelling and punctuation.
But the average number of times i will have to recreate a Tech2 Copper mine in a period of a month would be something we all could type quickly ( 34-37 times )
I have been working here for over a year. I've seen the evolution of Trivia. It used to be more gameplay related questions, but eventually MrGrimm ran out of things to ask about the game. Then players started requesting "non-game" questions.
I have asked 3 difficult questions already. One that took 5 mins to get 5 winners. During this time, the spamming of answers did not stop, it became worse. Making harder questions will not cause people to stop spamming in answers. I wish it did, but it won't.
For instance this past Friday. I asked for the date that the Lays Potato Chip company was formed. 1932 was the answer. Did you notice how many people were just typing in numbers for the heck of it? Even if they didn't know the answer they typed things like: 2020, Obama, Roadhouse, 666 BC. Etc.
So making harder questions will not make the lag less for players. *sighs*
If I ask a production question, then people will still spam in a answer.
Jonathan2kx,
I will add in 1 game related question on the next trivia.
I've missed all 6 Friday nights since I started playing. I've been excited about the trivia, just because I'm a trivia buff myself. But, after asking and listening to about everyone, I have no intentions of even bothering with it in the future. Its an excellent idea in theory. I absolutely love the interaction between staff and players, but it seems an ill thought out process that really needs a better approach. Instead of just criticizing and not offering a better idea, here's my idea.
Open up a special channel for trivia. If people can't figure out how to join the channel, then too bad, you can't participate in trivia. This special channel has a 1 minute wait time between answers. If someone wants to spam, its 1 minute per spammed response. If people are just spamming random various answers, fine, but its their loss. They'll have to wait 1 minutes before talking again. If 1 minute isn't suitable, fine, make it whatever you so choose, 45s, 1.5min, 5 min, whatever.
If you're going to put forth a really big effort to interact with the community, do it right. Don't make it hard on yourselves, because you'll get burned out. And, people who would and still will appreciate it, will care enough to participate.
my 1 request is tht the trivia event be moved to saturdays. every normal friday night i am at work during trivia. im sure this is the same case for many playing the game. most people are off from work on saturdays, so why not have it then?
