Day 2 to PvP - The end is near
Take a look at ANNO online and you'll have all your answers. They're going to let this game die on the vine and expect us to migrate to the new game. We should now direct our efforts to seeking recompense (say, the ANNO equivalent of 500,000 gems) as payment for migration.
They're counting on players who will want to move to a much more sophisticated game with the same "island" building logic.
It's time we join together as a bargaining unit under our real identities. Contact me through game email.
I understand your thinking but why would you ever want to play another game by these dev's? They have screwed us players over in a wrong way and have done very little in customer support, new real additions (not just new quest) my god they cant even give us real answer's to our concerns and now seems to refuse to. Im on the side of players and customers not the dev's
Staff has not been diluted.
This is not a AAA title that requires 250 people to be on staff.
Online Free 2 Play games have a different structure.
All the same folks that had been around making the Settlers games are still here, but the man 100 man team for one game is not the same. Now you can have that team work work on multiple projects instead of just 1 at a time. Settlers Series on PC has been good, but this was the right direction for them to move the franchise in, the Free 2 Play market.
The more games that you have in your portfolio, the better. Throwing all your eggs into one basket is a bad long term plan. This is what they did. It was the right choice as a company to make.
You guys need to realize that the fixes and additions to the game are going to be better tested this time around. THAT MATTERS! We don't need a repeat of the bugged quests. I'd rather see them put up fixes on the Test/Pre-Stage sever for 4-8 weeks to make sure that nothing leaks through again.
They will be posting new Dev Journals as well. I know it's been a long while since the words of PvP were mentioned, but watch the videos and read the journals. You'll see that Blue Byte is set on giving new content this year. You guys need to be patient for a little bit longer.
If the dev team promises a new feature and it doesn't deliver on time, what happens? Rage threads that are not constructive.
This might be a major company, but just like the others (EA and Activison), free 2 plays is a new market for this company.
Would you guys rather them rush updates (see the quests from last fall) and deploy them with a lot of bugs or work to put out meaningful fixes and smaller updates (see the current test server) that are nearly bug free?
I have having to say, "PvP will happen, but I don't have a date." However, I know the dev team is working on making everything BETTER this year with updates that will make new players as well as the level 50 players happy. You guys can make quips about the dev videos, but you can see it in the faces of the dev members that they really want to improve the game.
So standing up against a company who have said for 2 years we will have pvp and new features but have failed to deliver isnt constructive? then tell me what is? sitting here wondering why I spent money on a game that said they are aggresive on adding features?? maybe its the not us who are wrong but the people who are in charge. The biggest update we have ever received from this game was new quest and that was a band aid nothing serious. Really new quest??? you truly think that will keep people happy? Ted I know you and you know as well as I do its wrong how they treat us and mislead us. People spend alot of money on this game with the hopes of new real features that were said year after year by the dev team. Maybe since this dev team is so incompetent to make new in under 2 years they should hired a new team. It is clear as day that people are not happy and the best you give us is a dev diary with 2 pictures of buildings and new quest. We want real content, we deserve honest answers from people who have the info. Settlers is not a "new" game it has been around for years and years along with a war feature. Its just a online game now. Now we all see the new game ANNO wondering if this is the reason they are taking so long cause they gave up on this game and trying to milk as much cash as they can from players
Day 3 to peeps v. peeps
Day 4 - I am glad PvP is core
i will not spend a penny on this game anymore
It feels like the Dev Team is Congress, and PVP is something 90% of the American public wants, but they ignore us anyway. This is shocking, unprecendented, un--oh, wait, that happened just last week.
Maybe the Germans have been over-exposed to American culture; it's getting hard to tell them apart.
BB has a lot of great things planned for TSO for this year and there will be another Dev Diary coming soon. We are definitely communicating your concerns to development and trying to get you as much information on the upcoming content as possible.
BB_Effilunna, when will the Endless Copper Mines come to the Crisis event or to the Guild Market? o_O... I want to get 3!
*Nods* I agree Sapho *Nod Nod*
BB_Effiluna, BB_DXTed, and BB_Katealyst; Thank you for poking your head in and letting us know that we are being heard.
The Dev Diaries are definitely nice to see; and the video, although it was fairly vague, did let us know that there will be 7 new buildings added. My question is, are the 2 buildings you have shown us recently included into that 7 new buildings, or are they separate, meaning we will have 9 new buildings in total... eventually.
PvP - Day 5 - Keeping the thread alive
Any update on any of this? When can we expect the next dev diary?
Sparhawk555 - There is a Dev Diary already for this month. Might be one maybe in 2-3 months from now?? when Summer comes
1. Voicing that you are upset is ok. Stating it multiple times over and over again in various threads is not constructive. The Settlers franchise might not be new, but for Blue Byte, the Settlers Online is a new venture. It's all browser based instead of launcher based. There is different code and different headaches that come along with a browser based online game. You now deal with multiple servers worldwide verses running 1 server globally for players to match make on with a retail launcher game. Retail vs Free 2 Play is different. I know that "arm chair" programmers can state it's easy, if it was, then why don't those players have a successful online MMO game themselves? Why aren't they working for a game company that has successful online browse games?
2. They have not given up on TSO. Anno is not the only game that Blue Byte has been working on. Silent Hunter and M&M Heroes Online as well. As I've stated in a few posts on this thread, it would be very foolish for any studio to only work on one project and not work on something else while their current game is out. If this is how the industry worked, it would be DEAD. Every studio starts working on pre-production of their next game while their soon to be released game is in it's final bug testing phase. By the time game A hits retail, game B is now in the starting phase.
The Settlers Online is doing very well for a Free 2 Play for Ubisoft. The BB dev members that are working on fixes and new content for TSO truly care about the game. Blue Byte is learning from what they did right and what they did wrong. I truly believe that they will get it done this year with all of their projects.
I know that it sucks to have been waiting for PvP since 2011, but if you were basing this game all off having PvP, that wasn't the best idea. There are many PVP based time management sims. BB started off doing something different with not having PVP which set the game apart from the others. The majority of the player base enjoys this fact. The dev team that had to be careful with how the implemented PVP. They can't force the majority player base that have been enjoying the PVE with Player Trading into a PVP free for all. That is why in November they released the diary stating how it would work. Opt in PvP where you get a new island to push resources for. They are taking their time to get it right instead of just slapping it together. I'm pretty sure that no matter how good the PVP is or how functional it is, a loud minority still won't be happy.
Enjoy the game for what it is now.
Updates will be coming "soon."
Thank you BB_DXTed.
Just a note, Why on earth are you saying this now? i don't want to say this hatefully, but this statement is long overdue and, while all players know what you said already, actually HEARING it from a BB is what matters, and what players care about.
another small note on what you just said, a promise is still a promise, and Blue Byte broke one. (nothing against its employees ;) )
(glad i got that off my back)
So, Great to hear that another Dev diary is on the way! a quick suggestion, on every Dev diary, give the date on when the next one will come. And have them often. Even if its just the Community Events, its always good to hear from BB and, it will let it's admins interact with the players more.
:D
T_D
(notice how i always try to end on a happy note?)
Yes, The_Director, I could not agree more. There is something that needs to be learned by BB, etc and it is to manage people's 'expectations' once news are delivered, which so far, has been done poorly. It is one thing to throw a diary out there but it is another to follow-up with updates. That is all we are asking for, regular updates, especially if it is of the opinion that PvP is going to be implemented.
BB_DXTed et al, thank you again for responding to people's questions/concerns in this thread.
Sapho
Kinda funny isnt it?, im voicing my opinion in multiple threads trying to get a straight answer while BB likes to ignore most questions that require a real answer, almost like yin and yang. I would stop being upset if we could get a real answer about any content that is a true addition. Dont you think if you guys just gave us real answers instead of being so vague all the time would be more constructive then leaving us basically in the dark? I brought my old guild here to this game cause it was fun (found out its not once your at 50) and the promise of pvp along with other features that sounded exciting. Yes my guild loves pvp and yes this game needs something soon besides a few new adventures, guild quest or any of the other repetitive features that we already do. There over a 1000 post in the suggestion forum of simple ideas that could put in this game to increase the fun factor of this game but seem nothing really gets done. I just see alot of frustration from alot of people who voice and express there feelings but seems to fall on deaf ears and if the devs hears them, why does it take SO long to get anything done? This game is basically the same as when it opened with the exceptions of a few little features. Ted I do give you credit for taking the time to try to answer us players (mainly me) seems you are one of the few who truly try to give us comfort. Also cant wait for the new updates that will be coming "soon" lol;)
1. We the players should be heard and saying it OVER AND OVER is possibly a good way to do it. Hopefully you guys are taking this to the top brasz;).. We are what should matter the most NO EXCEPTIONS OR EXCUSES!!! Your statement Retail vs Free 2 Play is different. Explain why exactly? I could assume a few things but the biggest thing that comes to mind is continued money flow. Just curious.
2. True its a big company with multiple projects but not delivering in a timely manner is soooooooooo sloppy. Maybe Castle Empire has been pushed off to the side for other more ambitious projects as you mentioned above? I've seen this happen b4. End story, dead game. Time for a new version or new game altogether, then do the same thing over again. I hope this isn't the case but it's looking a little (I meant ALOT) like this.
It sounds to me like you guys don't get the real inside information on what is going on with this game. Maybe you only know as much as you tell us but why is it so hard for the company to give out a date or a quarter to when they figure PVP will be in operation or on a test server? Hiding simple information from the players is not a good idea. We will get mad about it obviously. If I were you, you should be also. There has to be a serious decline in players on this game already, I figure atleast half the accounts here are Multi-Accounts and it will get worse b4 better the longer they keep secrets from us. At this rate I would bet the games death is practically here already and the chat rooms that are left now will steadily decline in the next year unless they do something about it soon. I've seen this to many times to not notice the writing on the wall. Sorry, just stating my honest opinion.
It is soooo sad that we are still having to fight to get what you have been promising us for as long as I've been playing this game. This game has a lot to offer it's many loyal players for years to come but it starts with you keeping you word and delivering as promised.
I wish to state as you said that the job is not easy...no arm chair programmer could put together what you have! As far as reading the same thing over and over well thats to remind you that we are alittle pe-ode. If you went to college I am sure you heard that repetition is the mother of knowledge...the more times you read it the more it sticks with you. Just as we have read your promises and they have stuck with us. So keep giving us updates, don't slap anything together just to hold onto us. But in the very same token don't keep us in the dark either. Are we indeed asking so much from you ...and if you can't or won't deliver on your promises, then don't make them. Thanks
i sure hope so Ted, otherwise its called FALSE ADVERTISEING, and we all know what happens to companys who commit to false advertiseing with a large amount of people behind them......
since the Fourms are the only place we can voice our opinions and be heard, i strongly suggest you and the dev team listen to us, otherwise the only other way would be a strike or a march aginst BB, which would you prefer?
Bottom line
We want pvp, stop promiseing us stuff and not delivering, if you have somthing that is going to take YEARS to devolipe DONT TELL US untill its almost ready
I personally don't care whether we ever have PvP or not, but there are others who do and the game does need some type of new content to avoid stagnating. Introducing new quests is nice but it only goes so far, and the new buildings that have been introduced are just sticking a few new values into an existing class of subobjects with a new graphic file. Neither of these has a substantial effect on gameplay, and either of them could be done by an armchair programmer with access to and knowlege of the existing game code. I am sure that any armchair programmer with the thousands upon thousands of dollars worth of gem sales that UBISoft has would be able to hire a development team that could produce results and show us PvP in less time than UBISoft has been making that promise without results, if that armchair programmer was committed to the game and committed to making good on the promise to implement PvP.
Also, after two years and three more free2play projects, one of which is currently in closed beta (Anno), UBISoft is hardly a novice at free2play games any more, and that excuse is no longer valid.
I don't care if we ever get PvP or not, but I really think that UBISoft needs to either start keeping is promise of PvP that it has made over and over in multiple threads, or admit that the unspecified date when PvP will arrive is not specified because its never going to happen. That the development team is so busy building new games from the ground up that it doesn't have time to bother fixing known bugs and issues in TSO does not help my confidence in their commitment to TSO either.
If you don't have an expected implementation date for PvP, then you don't have a timetable. If you don't have a timetable then you still haven't even started writing the code. Two years is more than long enough. Stop talking about writing PvP code, and start doing it.After two years of empty promises, the deveopers are too busy writing new code for new games to bother fixing lack of any expected completion date suggests that the developers have still not gone far enough into the planning stage to develop a timetable, if they have even stared it at all.
Two years is more than long enough. Eitehr write the PvP code, or stop promising that you will.
lol i wonder how much longer until this forum page is closed...
Try to tone it down guys. its still just a game, even if we are underdelivered. (like playing monopoly without the rule book)

I have been playing settlers since the beginning, its a war game! I started playing Settlers online because its a war game and PVP was soon to be implemented. That was well over a year ago. I started playing less because of no pvp and then late 2012 the word on pvp was it would be here soon so I started playing more again. 6 months later still no PVP. Now the excuses I'm hearing are it's hard, there are different headaches. If i said something like that at work I'd be fired. Making any game is hard and has headaches. Now its time to suck it up quit making excuses and get it done and soon. That is how gaming companies do it, I'm sure BB can to.
I have been playing for about a year and a half. I still havent reached level 50 and I have spent about 50 bucks. I started to play this game because of its lack of PvP. I dont like to spend money on browser games just to win. I find the company of the guild very nice and we tend to help each other. The game is lagging behind on new content, but really once it goes PvP and I am attacked when I dont want to be I will probably leave. I like this game, hopefully they save the island and have a place to go to PvP. I think the adventures need to be upgraded and maybe have adventures that make you go to different places in one adventure. Make it larger for the higher levels. Stop having 3 or 4 of the adventures that everyone wants and make the other adventures more in line with those few like Nords. Just my opinion.
Ted- thanks for the answer but that loud minority you mention is most of the long time players who have been here forever and/or play multiple servers to try and keep things interesting. Raising the player level limit and giving some new content for the 50's is more urgent than PvP. My two cents... cheers
well i am off until there is st new . BB, please tell us exactly this time when the PvP will be released 2014,2015 i dont care, just need to be exactly year. And that is a promise
"Soon" ™
Also, and i'm sure you know this Ted, TSO is NOT a F2P game. It is a Freemium game.
So that is way different. Were it a F2P game, i feel you'd be more validated in your answer, however it is not.
I've dropped over 100$ into this game, and i haven't even been playing a year, and i'm sure i'm not even a big money dropper compared to some of the people who play this. So F2P is not the word for it.
With respect ~

So, if I can sum up the players' concerns mentioned in this thread, Ubisoft has two things to deliver: one is to give players a greater variety of advs or challenging things to do, especially past the top range levels and two, update the players who came to this game for PvP. The 11/20 Dev Diary Update was mentioning both these topics, and it has been 6 months, so we need long overdue feedback.
11/20 Dev Diary is at: http://forum.thesettlersonline.net/t...y-Update-11-20
another player leaving and I cant blame them. BB step up and deliver
