If you are new sell the buffs you get as rewards like "exotic fruit baskets" in the TO for 200+gc and use this money to upgrade and advance.
In the long run you need resources like exotic wood, saltpeter, titanium granite that you can only get from adventures and explorers on treasure searches. Since you need explorers to find most adventures it all comes down to them. Use gold to buy them but you will hit a limit and need gems later
the gear under your avatar drops down, click the word "archive" - it's actually a HELP window with a lot of tips for new people
2 and 3 player adventures can be completed alone however, you can invite a second and third player so they can get the resource reward. This invitation is commonly referred to as a loot spot. The invited player(s) must attack and kill at least 1 unit of an enemy camp in the adventure, to receive the reward.
You can offer to sell a loot spot in the Trade chat. Be sure to have the adventure near completion and be aware of what unit the loot spotter must bring to get a kill. Also an estimated time of completion is appreciated.
If you're not sure of the price of an item or loot spot, ask a person or two in the help or trade chat.
Don't NOT sign in ONE night!! Or lose your 45 gem bonus!!
DO NoT forget to ask for help in GLOBAL CHAT so they can remind you There's a tab for that!!
Finish exploring your home island as soon as you can. Once you get the ability to go on treasure hunts, you're not going to want to waste his time on exploring at home.
Build up as much gold coins as you can before and during an event. That way, instead of just earning them, you have an extra cushion to buy eggs, pumpkins, etc. in case you need to buy the extra to get something you really need in the trade office.
Build your storehouses near to the rocky areas where your mines will be. reduces travel time.
plant new fields and search for gold before you go to bed at night.
Build your storehouses near to the rocky areas where your mines will be. reduces travel time.
build your TRADE OFFICE as early as you can. its very important
Alot of tips are about getting ahead faster or playing most efficiently.
Faster usually = leveling up faster. Though it can also mean clearning your island or getting through an adventure faster with fewer losses. This can mean skipping battles, or using a trick to get past an outpost to attack the leader camp directly. (This is called blocking).
Efficiently usually = economic profitable. knowing the value of everything and determining what is profitable and what is not.
Both of those are fine play styles. But it is possible to play for other reasons. for the joy of building something, the joy of planing and finishing a plan, being a part of a comunity.
If your more interested in one of these other play styles, don't let all the talk of what is faster, or worth it, bother you. Play your own way and enjoy filling up your island.
for an adventure quest send all your troops over in the beginning of the quest so you don't have to wait for a hour for troops from home. it gives you more time to get more exp points.
One way I made friends early on was to watch my trades.
Anytime I sold something I would extend a friend request to the player who bought my goods.
After I had a several freinds, I started being a little more discerning.
I would watch and see if I sold things to the same player a couple of times.
Or of the same player bought things from me more than once.
After awhile I had a lot of friends. I would visit each one, drop a few small bufs, and leave.
If the friend did not return the buff or reply at all after a couple such visits, i would drop them.
Then when I joined a guild, I stopped adding any new friends and mostly concentrated on my guildmates.
Do spend some time looking at other player's layouts.
You will start to see some patterns of where certain buildings are generally put.
If you follow the convention, then when other people visit you, they will be able to find things to buff easier.
Like Gold buildings are often in the last section of the island, the one with 4 gold mines.
That way if other players want to buff your gold, they can find it easier.
If you put some important building in an obscure place, people may not see it and it may not get buffed as much.
on the early game, don't afraid to use your gold coin to buy stuff to upgrade your island such as: marble, hardwood,... The sooner you get to high level for adventure, the more gold you have. You can get much more resources and gold when you can do adventure.
There are three types of buildings.
The first is collection buildings (farms, mines, foresters, hunters, fisheries) that need to travel from a workshop, to a location, to the storehouse, and then back to the workshop.
The second are stand-alone buildings (smelters, weaponsmiths, deerstalkers, etc) that only need to travel from the workshop to the storehouse and back again.
The last are the 2x3 buildings (friary, waterwheels) that have an entrance offset to one side of the bottom of the building, instead of in the center.
The most efficient layout for stand-alone buildings are these, depending upon how many storehouses you want to build per X workshops:

If you're going to put in a 2x3 building, it should always be to the right of the storehouse.
Flooding the Trade Office with baskets is a quick way to bank up your gold coin. Use those building spaces wisely, build up those farms and keep the hunters and fisheries well stocked.
Make a habbit of doing things in a certain order when you login. for instance:
(optional) if you know your going to be on for more than 30 minutes,
Start by buffing what is important to you with fish platters
then you can buff them again with a longer buff before you leave
that way you get more buffed time.
1. load up your build queue with fields to rebuild
2. Check for mines to 're-discover' and send out your geologiest.
3. while your looking at geologists, make sure your explorers are busy
4. Do any of your fishing spots or hunting grounds need to be replinshed?
5. build new fish food and deer fragrance
6. build new buffs (always build replacement food-stuff first. don't use up you stuff building buffs and not be able to build food)
7. check your economy, looking for any production that is falling behind
8. check your quest book for anything to do
9. Check your troops/generals, ready to attack or need more troops?
10. check your mail
11. unload your star menu into your mayor's house
12. check on trades, anything you want to buy or sell?
13. any thing else you want to build in the provision house?
14, buf any friends you normally buff.
15. buff your imporant buildings before you sign off.
Such a habbit will organize your time. You will get more done, and hopfully not forget to do something.
And if you get interrupted, you might better remember where you were and what you did and didn't do yet.
what i say is to buy all three of the geologists as fast as you can. and two generals just in case one dies and if one general is on one side of the map and another one on the other side to move your troops faster. another is to always have more producers(farms, wells, mines, fishermen, etc...) than consumers(like everything else).
another tip is when you get an improved drill plan or something with alot of worth, sell it on trade for coins.
Save your gold. Instead, trade resources for the things you need.
Sell/trade bronze swords, bread, sausage, brew and/or marble...Great way to make a Settlers living.
Upgrading the buildings at the top of the chain in this order is best: Bread, Marble, then Bronze sword/Tools with current market prices. Also I prefer upgrading the top of the chain and building more supply buildings, compared to the inverse (so buffs are more effective).
If you want to do some researches or some own projects, let try it in TSO-testing first.
Build your buildings around your storehouses or as close as possible. The shorter the distance the workers travel will increase production. It may seem like a small increase but it will definitely help in the long run.
my first tip is remember the golden rule - treat others the way you want them to treat you
my 2nd tip is don't over build your island - sure it may seem like it's taking forever but late as you level up you'll find some building aren't as useful while others are even more important
my 3rd tip is join a guild because not only do you gain a family but the benefits out weigh any other in game
my 4th and last tip is use that trade office not only for buying and selling but to see what other players want and need so yu can focus on some of those goodies and provide a growth system of your own

Place Noble Residences near water in isolated areas. That way, you are building on land with negligible use and saving prime acreage for your supply lines.

A level 1 noble provides accommodations for 30 settlers and is more cost effective than upgrading a residence.
Hold down your mouse button and press 1-9. You will instantly be transported to that sector on your home map. It can also be helpful when buffing a friend.
Empty all of your armies after an adventure. It makes it easier to see what troops you will need to replace. Also, when you begin your next adventure, it will speed along troop deployment.
