Always send you explorers out...dont leave them there
Buy Gem Pits!
Biggest secret on Settlers online!
When a two for one sale on Gems happens(Happy Hour) get enough to buy a gem pit or two. I know for some this is expensive, but at 2 for one the deal is better when you use them to buy GEM PITS!
Gem pits double your gems once again thereby giving you a 4 to 1 advantage vs buying the 10 dollar deal every other week! You will never have to buy gems again....in theory :)
When getting wood, it is important to have enough foresters continuously running to replenish lost trees.
to the east of the mayor's house on your home island is a very nicely dense pack of pinewood trees. it's an excellent place for your cutters and foresters to achieve maximum efficiency.
Always send your explorers out, dont just keep them there doing nothing...
Guy Code Pro Tip #17: Leave Now Before You Spend More Time Here Than With Your Wife/Girlfriend
OWN 5 Gem pits!
I bought enough gems to get 3 Gem pits and saved enough for a fourth....once I get a 5th I will have 535 gems a day flowing in.... all my gem pits will run a year and as my oldest ones expire I will surely save the 20k Gems in 37 days! Then use the gems to replace exhuasted Gem pits.... Gem pits take 1 year to mine many of us will play this game for years to come......100 bucks for the inital investment is ultra cheap over time if you play for a couple years.... I played WoW (World of Warcraft) for 5 years all day everyday!
Buff foresters to help replenish wood resources.
Produce lots of resource replenishing buffs to maintain meat and fish production
Marble is the fastest thing to become exhausted.....first thing to do is send out your GEO's for Marble each day...then destroy the depleted quarries! With a fast Geo its only 15 minutes....I use my regs for Copper :P
In the Dark Priest Adventure you can kill the Dark Castle and Bone church with 50 recruits, 50 longbow men, 50 militia, and 50 soldiers.
A buffed mine does not use more ore! The level of the mine determines the speed of mining...buffing at any level merely doubles tripples or quadruples ore mined, but at no expence to the ore itself. Buffing has no effect on time of ore extraction or ore depletion!
Sending out Geologists to find marble may be more benificial than buying marble deposits.....For most this is true..... till new science chain comes out I stand by this!
Buffing a friends wells is a good way to start a friendly rivalry :)
Most of what you will learn in settlers online will be in chat channel, be kind to others and patient :)........ ooops I may need that advise myself :P
GOLD
Earning gold is easy........ before you need a resource post the gold you are willing to pay for the resources you wish. I saved nearly half by doing this. For example offer 200 gc for 10k marble vs. paying 375 for 10k when you need it.
Sell some Marble, say 5k for 165 gc....now you got your 5k for 35gc and you have replaced the gold to make another deal. do this a few times a day and you will be good on GOLD!
As soon as you can.. Buy noble manor building deeds.. Buy only building deeds (noble manor)..Doesn't cost you to build.. Leaves you more building licenses..
:elite:I am happy to share tips with my fellow Settlers!
If you are a new player, take time to read the detailed pop ups. They have loads of clear instruction. If you do not do this short tutorial, you might ask question that are already answered there which may make you look foolish! (Blush!) You can also easily look back at past pop ups that were lost by, looking at the archives tab.
Take time on: Placement of buildings. Grouping building around storage is most productive so you don’t need to move or tear them down too many times!
Take time on: Planning an attack with the needed men, or the losses will be higher and more costly.
As a new player the first 20 levels are quite simple. It’s just following the tutorial/quests! If you start decorating, specializing, or making extra buildings that the quests do not require before this level is complete you may have trouble getting the resources you need. (Being stuck is not much fun! Maybe the Narnia recreation could of waited a bit!) After level 20 you can start planning all that creative stuff with the knowledge resource you will now have at level 20!

I am a respectful Level 42 so not a new person, for all you critics out there!
You don't have to go through the trouble of demolishing your dried up water wells, you can just build new wells over them. The same technique works for wheat fields- however this doesn't work for mines.
Some times its better to use lower level wells and fields if you are ever low on marble and hardwood planks (Which are needed for most upgrades) and some times its good to build up on the wells and fields for nether of them take up building licences and will help you to keep on growing.
One very small thing that may help a lot, most players are starving for marble and hardwood in there early-middle levels, yet waste needed materials digging deep wells. use your common stone and pine wood to build smaller wells, build a lot of them when your barracks is backlogged with troops being trained and try to time it so the wells run out during an adventure when you need to replace troops. The marble you save will help you more than the convenience of wells running out. to a smaller degree the same goes with wheat fields.
If you're having issues keeping certain resources out of the red zone in your economy window and you're running out of room or building licenses - simply maintaining a buff here or there can put you in the green! Take into consideration that yellow doesn't always mean your numbers are in the negatives, take the time to inspect your resources - you may have a few unnecessary buildings.
It's safe to say everyone finds it annoying to have to "fix" their island after being gone for 24hrs. Rebuilding wells, wheat fields, and discovering and building up mines can easily become tedious if you get out of the swing of things. If you're willing to invest, silos, watermills, and special geologists purchased with gems can help take off a load on you.
However, if you were like me during the middle levels, you did your best not to invest in anything you felt you didn't need. That being said, if you can slightly capitalize on hardwood planks and marble, and have a designated spot for wheat fields and water wells, you can build up enough to set you straight for the length of time you may not be on, and stock up on ore by buffing your mines.
One of the easiest thing you can do to boost the production of your island is to find someone you can trade puffs with. All buffs last half again as long so trade 12 sammies or 12 baskets with a friend.Set things up so everyday you boff s friend and they buff you.I've been doing yhis now for several months with 3 different friemds and my production has gone crazy!!! try it you'll be glad you did.
It makes more sense to completely eliminate all of your hardwood cutters/foresters and just buy the logs off the Trade Office. Keep the sawmills, or make a few more. You'll free up additional licenses and the hardwood can be purchased for very inexpensive amounts in large quantities. If you apply half the licenses "saved" towards more sawmills, you can sell the planks for way more than you bought the hardwood for and/or create hardwood faster.
Remember to use your provision house regularly when you are just starting to turn those stones and pinewood planks into marble and hardwood planks for upgrades.
Shop TO very cautiously!
A highly overlooked tool is the road maker, its cosmetic yes; but if used correctly it can map out all usable space afforded you. Doing this you can get a better sense of where to place buildings. Be aware of production vs non production buildings as well. Put the non productive out in the areas that won't benefit productive power; and take the time to view the storehouses for what they really are. The best analogy i have is a storehouse is like a power outlet to plug production into, so key placement of storehouses can "light-up" and make it function best when you weave a tapestry of functionality that interrelates and breathes together. Doing this and balancing levels can in effect cause the majority of your island to run itself. This allows you the freedom to truly explore the facets this game offers.
The more you "specialize" production, meaning end production versus invest in a full chain to supply yourself; you leave yourself open to a fluxuating market to supply base requirements. It may seem bulky and cumbersome, but the more able you are to running a diverse system the better, this puts the true power of choice in your hands on what you do in regards to the trade office.
Protip - protips like this are why you should read my posts and ignore 50% of the others. Provision house should run 24/7 making the following:
baskets, settlers, fishfood, meat deposits
NOTHING ELSE is worth making and should be bought instead. the difference in price between input mats and what you produce make those 3 tradeable items and the 4th (for military) the ONLY things one should use.
Veteran generals are totally worth it, bend over backwards and sell your own mother to get yours.
Blocking is awesome, no matter who chooses to tell you otherwise. Always block whatever you can.
Protip - bluebyte likes to play with internal things on their server, making the ability to block change randomly from week to week.
:elite:Do you ever get crowded?
If the game play area is to small use f11 key in the web address bar after the web address is not selected, wallah Full screen! same again to close it.
Protip - use ladyrobin's protip above when you try to resize the chat window and it decides to expand off the screen.
Do not buy Gem items from strangers especially un-guilded players unless in TO.
