so will the bookbinder just keep going up and up or is there some cap to it?
Don't think we've forgotten about the queue for the bookbinder. having a buff that can't be used unless you are at your computer exactly when the current item is done producing is useless. I've been holding on to my glues bc dont want to waste them as I'm never sure if i can be online when current book is done producing to line up another. Prov and Barracks both have a queue on them, so why not bookbinder?
Some of the perks are nice. Would like to see what the other specialists can do.
What I don't like:
The 10% price hike every 10 books. Makes the whole thing BS. We don't have a price hike or troops or buffs (that would just be dumb.) So why on the books? Is it that the more books we write, the more wastage comes from the increasingly inexperienced bookbinder?
No queue for the bookbinder. There are queues on everything else (troops, buffs, buildings,) so why not books?
From my short experience here, I greatly appreciate the ability to upgrade the geologists. I like the easy way I can integrate it into my production. For the time being I dont have to worry about the tax (gold) or interest (scaling costs) or the high requirements of rare materials. Given that the costs will be somewhat offset by savings in bronze tools, or even the efficiencies of not have to replace mines every single day (maybe), I can see the long term potential benefit potentially outweighing those costs. But for now I use it to increase copper and marble availability. It functions. I certainly wouldnt want to go back to not having it.
I love the science system! BUT, why no queue, and why the increase in price? Every 10 books seems extreme to me. If you said every 50 or every 100 even, but every 10? Please Dev's when you read this think about changing these two things. Please! Otherwise, kudos! The Science System is a big hit with almost everyone.
At first I was upset too about the price hike. BUT I am understanding that its really to balance out the game.
Since these books are mostly used once and there are only a finite number of specialist you'll have it should make you think twice or plan carefully where to spend your points as those books are somewhat 'rare' in the sense.
The only problem I have is the 50% refund. that only gives you half the books back but the prices didn't get reduced based on the volatile loss.
(this sort of makes the books a consumable which I don't like.)
NOTE TO BB: (please adjust the prices based on 50% refund loss)
There's no hike in troops or buffs because those are consumables. They come and go.
Have you noticed the hike in Explorers, Generals, Geos in the tavern ?
The first one was free, then it went up in price. This is because they're permanents and the more you have the stronger you are. Thus the cost scales to offset this.
Same thing goes with the books.
Don't know what everyone is fussing about. My level 31 Geo has already payed for himself in excess res.
A Q would be nice though and would make the glue more worthwhile.

The bookbinder building require a queue system like all other buildings.
And the price increase and book refund need to be re-adjusted..
the refund count the book you lost and re-adjust the price in the bookbinder.
Try to imagine the amount of manuscript per tomes it will require to build tomes when explorer, island buildings and generals will have their own science tree will be ***..
Other then that I like the new features it added and I can't wait to see whats next!
Yeah, Bookbinder does need a building queue, But now that the Explorer Skill tree is coming out, how do you guys feel of that?
Building queue and quicker :P
There is also no way of knowing which resource a geo refilled if you achieve that that skill.
The current cost increasing speed is ok for only geologist. However, if the science system comes out for the explorers and the generals, there will be a huge demand on science products. The increasing speed of cost for every 10 manuscript will be too fast!
after so many books made tombs cost 2 books per that increased the tile even more
I'm in complete agreement about the cost of making the books in this science system. It's just dumb to use titanium for making books and the amounts required are just as dumb. 4 ore for 1 tab- and then 200 tabs for 1 book. Who came up with these figures ??? I know that their just trying to suck more money out of the people who have made this game a success for them. If they would up the amounts found by the explorers it would help, but as for me it's just making me loose interest. I find my self less interested in coming into this game any more, and from what I have read I think there are a lot of others feeling the same way. This addition to the game could have been a positive, but the creators turned it into a negative by too much greed.
I think the balance is about right. Of course codex are expensive to make but they give a lot of advantages over time. Books take a long time to build but if it was any quicker the whole thing would be over in a few months, this is a long game be patient. Increasing the cost of books as you get more is good too, it makes you more careful about whether to upgrade more geos or save the books for explorers/generals.
I think this is by far the best addition BB has added to the game in a while.
I still wish there was a way of knowing which resource a geo refilled once you achieved that that skill.
Except they'll get a ton of rage if either the general/explorer are much better, or if they are lame and folks should have just updated the Geos right away.
The playerbase doesn't deal well with suprises and/or unexpected balance issues.
I'm getting that 'crisis quest' feeling where I'm liking something new, but don't dare start it until someone posts the whole thread and I can see if there's something stupid that makes it worthless.
The balancing and timing might be fine if your early in the game, but those of us who have already been playing for a long time dont' want to still spend all the extra time to see any advantage from new systems. When you are working on advancing in game along with new content its all good. But those of us at the top are only waiting for new content. Not the funnest position to be in.
I'm at the top of the game already no more buildings to level up except nobles which aren't worth doing. That's why I think the balance is good, I don't want something that only takes a few weeks to complete and then it gets boring again.
I think this system was meant to be a side attraction to keep people entertained for the duration. Not something to be quickly conquered and moved on with. This entire game is based on patience and strategy. I think its smart of them to make it so time consuming and labor intensive. Due to the resources required a player will have to do adventures in order to succeed at the task. I agree, however that the book binder needs a queue.
I can accept the increase in costs as a balance issue but PLEASE add a queue for the bookbinder!!!
Yes, please add a queue.
Does 'Natures Gift' even work I have no way of telling which resource has been refilled.
'Natures Gift' seems bugged. Instead of refilling other deposits, it adds a small amount of resources to the deposit you just discovered(and if you dont discover any new deposits it doesnt refill anything at all. Tried it hundreds of times and checked for refills). Sadly the skill is not working the same way it did on testserver where it was pretty amazing.
ok sooner or later it's going to cost more to make a manuscript than what it's worht doing can a cap be set on the price increases. by the time you get around to doing gens and your island will it be even worth making them for that?
+1 for a queue for the book binder!!!
yeah the time in insane. not really worth it when add in whats needed to make it
From what I heard, there is but it's a ways out there.
As far as the Manuscripts price increase, I don't mind. I still have endless nibs and paper. I don't mind it, and I have those buildings at lvl 3. If I had them at 5 I would have more. I imagine the same is true there.
The que would be very nice to have because I know I can't always be on in exactly 12 hrs, 14 hrs, or 16 hrs from when I put it into que the first time. And I'm not setting my alarm to wake me to do this one simple task so I think que should be done pronto.
As far as 2+ of these buildings being allowed, I disagree. This game is all about wearing the customer's patience to a thin wire. I can wait to finish everything I want with all my geos, explorers, home island, generals, etc.
As far as the 50% refunded, if 50% are wasted, the cost of the books should decrease because you have to remake them. End of story. If it's 100% refunded (costs gems), then the price should remain where it is. I don't know if this is true or not, but I'm not doing the 50% refund, I would just build more books, it is already time consuming as is. Or do the 100% refund method if I messed up bad enough.
As far as this being blamed on being tested, and we're in beta phase still. Well last time I checked, we are still in Beta. Or have they closed it and finally said Beta testing is done 110% of the way? I expect bugs when things are released, but more of it should be fixed while on test server. I feel BB rushed this project because the people were screaming to do more stuff at lvl 50+. And they finally had enough of them complaining that they thought this would be a nice time killer. But eh, I think whenever a company releases a major patch upgrade, it should go through 3-5 testing phases and should take more then 2 months on a test server to work out all the kinks because in all honestly if you do it one one or two months, sometimes you don't get enough feedback in time.
Sorry about the long post, but wanted to comment on everything I read tonight on this thread.
Explorer we are testing now, I've just this weekend been submitting our requests for change, i'm totally sure that soon after early the coming week, explorers will go live. So far there hasn't been any really bad bugs. mostly its containment changes... did I say that right? lol ewwwie, i'm not thinking right in English lately...
German stickin to my brain ..
Beta ended and the BETA labels were removed a long time ago for this server.

I'm wondering if they are ever going to fix the "percentages" I've supposedly got a 45% chance to find a "Quality Copper Mine" but currently have 6 regular mines (meaning NO quality mines) and haven't found one in the last 10 searches I've had. I only use the one Geo for my copper searches, so it isn't that I'm using the wrong one.
I'm hoping I hit the manuscript cap. Cost went up after every 10 produced. At 91 it went up to 590 paper - 470 nibs - 24 coins. I'm producing manuscript 103 and it's still at 590-470-24. Keeping my fingers crossed.
I don't think there is a end Perwyn, unless it stops at 25 Coins. Atleast I hope it does or else its just a WTH moment.
Yep, I'm at the cap for manuscripts!!!! Here's a link to the German wiki. About the middle of the page are the tables for book costs.
Look for Rohstoffkostendetails

overall I like the new system to me it just takes to long maybe make the overall game a bit faster I do love playing thanks
It takes way too many resources to build the science, and it gets costlier the more you do! That's just crazy. Also dissapointed on how we can assign the skills in a limited fashion.
I think I have only one complaint. I am level 50 and I love the skill bonus quests that I am getting from having that feature; however, since I am level 50, experience means nothing to me. Therefore, it seems silly that the skill bonus quests always give experience. For example, my skill quest now is to do BK and part of the reward is 5k exp. I would think that there would be a way to convert that to star coins for those of over level 50. I realize star coin rewards aren't added to live yet, but they will be and if they are anything like they are on the test server, I want all the ones I can get instead of just "missing out" on experience cause I don't need it.
I don't understand why my scouts keep finding coal on rarity searches. Were they bad and that's what Santa is leaving in their stockings
