Let me tell you something, in order for us to spend money on something that is both free and ONLY a game, it has to be good.

I personally refuse to pay for gems until a few things are met.

"To make a game requires money, in order for anyone to pay for the game, it has to be a good game."

Define heavy/big spender? I spend roughly $8.33 per month on this game but I only spend it around Thanksgiving/Christmas when there is a good sale.

My apologies for sounding like spending money (lets say $101+/year or about $8.41/month) on this game is a bad thing. On the contrary. The people who spend money are keeping the game going, so they should be listened to. And for those tossing down $100 every couple months, all the more reason for BB to oblige by offering some scalability. I guess "heavy spender" is a loaded term--and inaccurate--which I did not mean it to be. It was in my mind a badge of commitment; I would best say "Patrons" of the game instead.

no, you dont need a bigger island, just need to know how to maximize your building space, thats part of the challenge in the game

Actually, you don't need 100k fish at at time. It might be convenient, but you don't need it; however, the limitations are...bizarre. Given the presence of sliders and entry-fields, why the hell not retask that same methodology for the barracks? I swear I'd stop asking (as loudly) for a reorderable barracks if I could just type in "recruits: 1098" -- and then that same philosophy should be used for loading/unloading generals.

Going to have to disagree on this one.

I've been heavily involved in markets in every MMO game I've played going back to Ultima Online. Each has their bright-points and their dank undersides. At first, I found the short standing time (the time a trade stays on the TO) to be annoying; however, intentionally or unintentionally, it makes market-locking much harder to accomplish as forces market turnover (pushing people out of the market until they re-list) and discourages strata-locking (posting a dozen lots of something). Given the minuscule amount of trading (compared to general lack of difficulty of capitalization or resource building), the short standing time is advantageous to the overall market, as do the smallish number of default lots. If you want to list a dozen, pay for it with additional lots in a trade or use additional trades, each is gently discouraged by the cost, thus limiting the trades someone is likely to make, which discourages over-saturation and encourages the player to choose wisely.

In this instance, player convenience should be sacrificed for a working marketplace.

I'm unsure why you call that 'unbalanced'; it is merely a different specialization. Specialization is the eventuality of most market-based resource systems. I've a guildmate who wanted to be as independent from the market as possible, and he's done a simply amazing job of it. When the markets went into vertical assent due to Fairy Tales he merely yawned, stretched, chuckled, and started running them as fast as his barracks would allow. He's coin-poor (relative to a 50 who's chewing through fairy tales like candy) but he doesn't really care. However, it took an enormous amount of time to build to that state.

Being able to be nearly independent is nice but not necessarily a good goal for a game, especially one that often makes good balance difficult to achieve across a fully populated island. Specializing in producing coins is no different than specializing in producing logs or brew or bread or [insert oft-used item here]. It can speed up your progress through the game to specialize but it's not a requirement.
