Adventure Searches: In remembrance
Adventure Searches are now dead. Worthless. Archaic wasters of time and coin. The ability to produce mass map fragments for a pittance has led to their demise. Scouts invested in them are now doing a poor job doing treasure hunts. Sausage chains are looking at downsizing (the need for an expanded sausage market is another story). It is simply no longer worth the coin to launch a scout.
A few exceptions still to be found on plummeting adventure prices exist. Nords, Tropical Sun, Lost Skull. All of them cannot be bought from the star menu. So why can't the scouts be revamped? Why can't they find only adventures that cannot be bought using map fragments? Might need another new adventure or two, but given the slap shod way many adventures have been designed, shouldn't be too tough of a task.
I leave you with :xbow:, a man of a dieing breed, cursed to walk the haunted islands without any slow nords to shoot.
Point - think through your updates, and make sure you didn't just wipe out more content with an update then you introduced.
The cost of map fragments is higher than you think
After going through the actual numbers, I can't say that the addition of the ink buff to the game will be a long term disruption. While right now there are people who prepared supplies in advance, once these run out and people are again making supplies in real time, the supply of fragments should drop to somewhere reasonably close to previous levels. From what I can calculate, in order to make 50 fragments a day, you will need to have 4 levels of simple paper production, 3 levels of advanced paper production, and 1 level of nib production. In order to supply this, you will need 2 levels of pinewood cutter, 6 levels of hardwood cutter, and 1 level of copper mine (assuming normal rate, without geologist boost), as well as approximately 1060 units of water production/12 hours. For the cutters, you would also need 3 levels of pinewood forester and 9 levels of hardwood forester to maintain tree balance. This only addresses the supplies need to make map fragments, not additional output needed to continue to make books. The capital investment to be able to run the rarity provision house for the 30 minutes is rather high, or the prices for the required resources will be increasing as well.
