Dev's Diary: Improved Silo, Granite Pit and Exotic Wood Tree School

Dear Settlers!

The current version on our public test server introduces a new building:

The Improved Silo

Please keep in mind that this is the first test version of the new building. Hence, the final design and balancing may differ.

The output of the improved Silo is 3 times as fast as the output of the regular Silo. The improved silo can be obtained in the Shop (Architect category).

• Level requirement: Minimum level to get the new building is 13
• Upgrades: It can be upgraded up to level 5
• Limitation: None
• Tradable: Yes
• Building license: No building license is needed
• Buffs: The output can be increased by using productivity buffs
• Recurring: The building goes back to the Star Menu in case you destroy it
• Moving: It is movable

Also, the Granite Pit and Exotic Wood Tree School were enhanced based on your feedback.

Changes:

• Capacity: 3,750 units of Exotic Wood
• Limitation: None, but there is a Shop cool down of 7 days. I.E. you can acquire it once per week in the "Architect" section
• Refill: It can be refilled with omniseeds

• Level requirement: Minimum level to get the new building is 26
• Upgrades: It can be upgraded up to level 5. This speeds up the output and building will deplete faster
• Tradable: No
• Building license: No building license is needed
• Buffs: The output can be increased by using productivity buffs
• Recurring: The building won't go back to the star menu when you destroy it, but there is a warning message similar to the gem pit
• Moving: Like the gem pit, you cannot move this building

Although it's kinda frustrating for those that already have silos all upgraded, this is by far the best idea I've seem in a while.

I would like to add that creating level 6 and 7 on each building would be better... just an idea.

given how upgrade costs an times scale, that might not be a good idea.

the new Silo is a good deal.
the granite mine is not a good deal, far too many gems.
The wood school also not excited about. I can get logs from
my loots while running Premium.

I would like to see a Super Watermill next :)

Improved Watermill. 1 Minute Base Time!

This is GREAT! Dev's listened to exactly what a majority of players had to say, by putting more Granite in the pit and by making the building refillable. This will have players buying and using gems for refills for many months to come, but it is a great gameplay improvement, thank you.

I would like to see other improvements made on the game instead of new content being released. For example what we have been asking for months/years. It's nice to see new content, but keeping what you promised us from long time ago would be so much more rewarding in my book.

Granite Pit - Waste, get enough granite through adventures. Higher levels, this becomes easier to accomplish. I'm glad to see this is refibable though and buffable.

Exotic Tree School or whatever it's called - Waste of time, I have too much elogs as is.

Improved Silo - Debatable. I almost have all my silos to lvl 5 so it really depends on how much space they take up. For example, if 3 of them take up less amount of space as 9 silos then I won't mind but if it takes up more then that. Forget it.

I was initially excited about the changes to the granite pit but then I noticed that it consumes 3 granite per 1 granite produced. What is the reasoning for this? You might as well make it consume 1:1 and set the pit at 1000 granite. As it is its false advertisement as people will think they are getting 3000 granite unbuffed vs 1000.

here's my Suggestion.

Raise the level you upgrade buildings from level 5 to level 10. That way players can improving there economy. Also players will have a reason to continue playing.

I can only speculate that the 3:1 ratio is put in place so that dev can keep the price of omniseeds the same. As granite is a more valuable resource, the thought was probably that refills need to be more expensive. So only getting about 80granite for omniseeds unbuffed. Some input from devs on the reasoning behind that 3:1 ratio would be nice. I would prefer to see a granite specific refill only because people will be confused about how much they get for their money.

love the improved silo

I love the new ideas, but at the same time I'd like to see some of the things you've already looked at introducing to the game, brought in as well. My question for the new buildings, since the granite pit and exotic wood school can be refilled with omniseeds, will omniseeds become more available in loot, treasure searches, and maybe in larger amounts for purchase with gems?

I hope that 3 granite consumed for each granite received is just a bug. Otherwise imho contrary to what the dev diary says, there is no real enhancement to the granite pit, despite allowing refilling with omniseeds.

Improved Silo is a good idea. But, probably too late for for those 50s with a ton of L5 silos.

Perhaps the developers could allow an upgrade of current Silos to Improved Silos for gems at a slight discount.

here's my thought on everything. i like the idea of improved silo, as i have none myself yet, and would be extremely handy to me.

granite pit doesn't seem useful, as adventures are easy enough to get it from.

ditto with the exotic logs

as for upgrading anything past 5, NO!!!!

Actually those lvl 50s with all lvl 5 silos will be the ones spiking your gem prices so that we can free up 20-40 spots. We have coin hoards available to spend. can you afford improved silos at 20-30k per? (10-15k on Ares likely). GL outbidding 50s who have more coin then storage.

3 for 1 on granite pit i think is a bug. If it is a bug, omniseeds will dictate gem prices.

5-6k granite for a lot of higher building upgrades. takes 10-12 RB LS to get that 6k granite. any source of granite is welcome.

it is not a bug, it was stated in the update description that becuase it is now refillable it is now 3 : 1

Its not a bug, but if u read test forums once in a while and update window on log in on test you would know this :P

If its not a bug then the granite pit is not worth building. The coiner will always out trump the granite pit unless granite becomes worth more than coins at some point.

Granite Pit review:

Initial release 1000 units of Granite contained in the building. Consumes 1:1 from the pit, Non refillable.

Updated release 3,000 units of Granite contained in the building. Consumes 3:1 effectively making it still have the initial 1000 granite in the building. (this is a haha got you suckers we think your stupid from the devs I guess?). Refillable with omniseeds (83 effective granite out of the 250 omniseed from the gem shop for 50 gems).

On Ares granite goes for 1:1 vs coin. I am not sure how the other servers hold up to this so I cannot comment on them. So unbuffed an omniseed dropped on a gold mine would net you 62.5 coin (not taking away the cost of the coal). So if running unbuffed the granite pit would be the optimal choice for the omniseed. But who runs without buffs on the higher tiered stuff right. So we have to look at the buffed rates.

x2 buffs on everything in the gold chain bumps up your ratio for that to 166 granite on the pit. But the end results of the coiner jumps up to 250 for that same omniseed. At the cost of about 3 gold per imra' basket your still out way far ahead using the coiner.

As you use the x3 and x4 buffs the ratio's get even farther apart even with the increased cost in the buffs. If you use a rainbow bag on the granite you actually lose about 230 coin in value off of the bag vs just selling it for gold on the TO (for about 2500 coin on Ares).

the whole thing got pulled from the test server for re-balancing (again) maybe 3rd time will be a charm?
