i have tried to defend the population rebalance BUT
I get it - it's clever and it works for the majority of players -
but for veterans of the game with large populations - large armies - and who are always active - we are kinda trapped.
I had just done an SE, BLT and VLT AND had built op a large PvP army to go take a Large colony - so I had very few recruits left - (time to reload the barracks) as a result my halved totals are so small I would have to kill 1000 elites, 600 xbows, 500 cannon etc...troops that would never die ordinarily. I literally cant get to the target number without doing this - so the short cut work around - does have the unintended consequence -
THIS IS NOT A FIX - this is a PUSH TO CONSUME stuff that need not be consumed, Highly disappointing and again NOT A FIX.
Has Anyone Actually SUCCEEDED in Resetting their Population.
I will try to stick to the facts on this thread.
According to the BB's - Once my "troop count" drops below the "mililtary unit" count - I can safely rebuild troops and settlers and my population will track accordingly.
(1) The gap between my "military unit" count and my actual troops was 4k.
(2) Yesterday, I headed off to kill 4k troops - but felt I made a mistake by rebuilding those troops in the barracks while I was away - thus when I returned and found the "gap" was still 4k I guessed it was my fault. *
(3) Today, I headed off to kill 4k troops - but did NOT make any new ones to replace them. Lo and behold when I returned - the "gap" is still 4k.**
The reality is they did not fix their fix properly - and so no matter how many troops you kill - you still have the same gap.
So it would appear that this is all just --- Lies. **** Lies. And more lies. This has been double-talk positing a "necessary resetting to make up for a PvP miscalculation" when all it actually is a push to have players consume more resources leading to a desired increase in gem sales.
Merry Christmas.
UNLESS - someone can say to me - dude - this was easy - I DID IT and THIS IS HOW YOU CAN DO IT. ....I would be all ears - and wear a suitable hairshirt for penance.
* Moreover - based on this discovery - as I have gone "on and on" about in "I Tried to Defend the Population Balance" thread - it appeared that I could not just make new recruits and kill them to reset the population - I would have to make the reduction from my previously existing high-end troops as I had disposed of all my meatshields the previous day.
** So even killing of the high-end troops that pre-dated the "reset" failed to "close the gap."
Update: Pop update is working - but...
...not "exactly" how it was explained.
TODAY ( Day Three) - I gave up trying to reset my pop and restocked my barracks after destroying 4k original; pre-"reset" troops the previous day - to make no difference in my gap between troops and total pop - and with a "military unit: number that rose and fall with my activity.
BUT BECAUSE I MADE SUBSTANTIAL TROOPS OVERNIGHT - I did another calculation post-Nords this am.
MY POPULATION HAS INCREASED WITH NEW TROOPS and CLOSED THE GAP BETWEEN MY ACTUAL POPULATION AND WHAT THE GAME SAYS MY POPULATION IS.
MY GAP WHICH WAS 4k is now ONLY 1247 which is about right after all my activity yesterday.
AND THE GAP BETWEEN THE MILITARY UNIT NUMBER and MY ACTUAL TROOPS is ALSO 1247.
So it would APPEAR that IF I go kill 1247 troops and rebuild them - I might reset my population correctly. TO BE FAIR - this is sorta what BB Endesmor (sic?) said - however -
These calculations were certainly NOT tracking like this on Day One and Day Two ( so I expect someone has been cleaning this up behind the scenes)- but it would (a) appear to be working and (b) the difficulty MIGHT be translating from German to English although to be FAIR - I don't know HOW I would have explained this reset process myself in English. LOL
Now -off I go to kill 1247 troops today. WHERE IS LUCY AND THAT FOOTBALL.....
