1 hour left on expedition and still no fix. What a waste of time and troops.
Have not had that problem yet myself with a map boss, but you are pretty much screwed. If you send a mail to Endesmor you might have a chance at recouping your losses, seems to be the most reasonable person you can contact for help without getting a dressed up standard "yea we are useless" response.

I'm in the same spot. When I try to attack the map boss, it shows the contents of the camp for a split second and then the attack icon disappears, just leaving my mouse pointer. I've refreshed my browser several times, left the map and returned. Nothing.
Well, there goes my "conquer a large colony in an hour" achievement.
After seeing these kinds of posts, I always check the Boss camp before doing anything else. So far it's held true that if I can attack the Boss camp in the beginning I still can at the end. If I can't attack it in the beginning, I cancel. It's not a solution, but it's preventative.
grrrrrr, having the same issue and just saw this after searching on forum. I want my resources back!!!!
Happened to me a few minutes ago with a huge, tier 2 iron colony. was setting up the last blocks and attack and was not able to start the sequence on the map boss. Want my resources back!!!!!!!!!!!!

Same map again, and again and again, independent of resource. By now if I see that map. I cancel right away. I have tested it 6 times, could not attack map boss once
Seems like it's always the boss with a tree right up against the back of the castle, doesn't it? The maps I've had trouble with, the Boss camps have been in the SW, but the tree was there every time.
This just happened to me also (can't send Marshall to final boss), is there a solution to get our resources back? BB_Endesmor's link to "submit a ticket" does not go to a web page where a ticket can be submitted... This is very frustrating.
The web address to submit a support ticket http://www.thesettlersonline.net/en/help-and-support. When you open the page, the contact form area is normally closed, but can be opened by clicking on the plus sign to the far right of the words 'contact form>'. That should reveal the fields to submit a ticket.
I do not care about getting resources spent back. I want my explorer down time back! Grumble grumble grumble.

If we submit a ticket nothing gets done.
When someone gets to the ticket the expidition has expired.
Resources are not refunded.
Recovery time for the explorer is not reset and normally expired before someone sends response.

I can fight the map boss but it is now stuck in a loop without with the troops winning the camp walks out and 30 sec. later its starts over with winning the camp again. It won't complete!
I've experienced this twice in the past 3 days. I'm not going to submit a ticket, I don't care about the resources. What I do care about is that a seemingly easy fixable issue still persists in this game over 1 year later.
Both occasions where I couldn't target the map boss, there was a big tree behind it. Why can't you all just change it so no trees spawn immediately next to camps?
