Browser Freezes

I've been having issues with browser freezes.

I play on several different machines at different times. A new Win10 laptop, a Win10 desktop, A Win8.1 laptop and a Vista laptop. All up to date except the Vista laptop which has some annoying update fails on some MSOffice security updates that I really don't care to pursue.

It seems to be the worst on Chrome on Win10. It happens in Chrome, Firefox, and Edge browsers.

As best I can tell, it's an issue with TSO and flash. This doesn't happen at any other time with any other game, app or program. It only ever happens with TSO, across all these different machines and OS versions.

I know other players are experiencing this but I don't see a thread about it (did I just miss it?).

Is this a known issue and if so, is there a remedy or expected fix?

Thanks Endesmor. I just did so. Completely forgot about doing that.

It is happening for everyone. Leaving the game up starts to slow things down until eventually it locks up. It is definitely something to do with the game and flash. When I go to task manager to close whatever browser I am using I see Flash is hogging up the memory. I am guessing something in the programming just keeps adding up and it is not dumping every so often like it is used to.

I noticed the freeze often happens when new mail is arriving.

Or when a new quest, for example, collectibles quest, comes up. Or when I move a building. or destroy a building, or build a new building or mine. Also when I come home from visiting a friends island, or home from an adventure. And like SweaterPuppies said, if I leave the game up for an extended time eventually the screen freezes up completely and I have no choice but to refresh. At which point the message "a plugin has stopped responding" appears and I have to click stop plugin before the refresh proceeds. I don't have it nearly as bad as some people who can barely play at all.

It's just the NSA. Relax.

Its been happening for a while and it just keeps getting worse.

Were they able to help you? If so, what did they have you do?

screen is freezing more and more often, also chat resets are happening with growing frequency. Making it super hard to do any adventures, and even chat.

I notice the freezes if I click too many buttons too fast. Especially after travelling back and forth from adv.
I find if I slow down my clicks and simply wait for a freeze to clear(Up to 1 min), that things run smoother.

That being said, it takes forever for adventure invites to open up. Sometimes I even have to refresh. Been doing that for 5 years.

Yup. Agreed!

Event window appears at the very beginning, then everything freezes. Its mozilla but chrome even dont load the game..

same here, now since start of event i cant even log in now :( hopefully i might get in before event is over....lol

I updated Firefox a few days ago to their latest version a few days ago, and have had problems playing ever since. Previous to updating to this version, I had a few crash issues with Flash, but now I can't even play Settlers online with Firefox because of serious screen lag. Buttons will not click, screen freezes for 30 seconds at a time when scrolling, etc. Anyone else having issues with the newest Firefox?? 49.0.2

It is not just Firefox. I have used Firefox, Edge, IE, and the Slim Browser during this event and they are all locking up and crashing.

I'm losing merchant and excelsior items due to this when things glitch up. I'm posting all over the forum about it. Support is of no support at all blaming me, saying I've deleted the items and insisting they go right into inventory completely ignoring that they are not. Support is just straight up giving us the finger with this and making this event ugly as sin.

My game has been having issues when I'm travelling to/from advs lately. Sometimes it's freezing up, a couple of times it's saying that there will be a maintenance shortly when there really isn't one. My problems have just been happening in the last 3 or so days.

Freezing while typing in chat, freezing while sending a block, freezing while transferring to/from adventures or friends islands, freezing at guild quest appearance, the list goes on. from every computer type with every browser type. and BB Endesmor, you know support has never resolved anything for me and many others.

Yeah the freezes started for me with the introduction of the XXL package and have gotten significantly worse since the Halloween event this year. Every ticket I have sent in recently has been replied to once, but when I reply back it gets ignored and the ticket gets closed.

Browser freezes for me as well. I have not submitted a ticket because A) my last two tickets for unrelated issues have been met with either indifference or nothing and B) based on the responses of others in this thread it appears that the same response will be given.

So, here's me checking in to say +1 to having the issues. Hope BB pays attention to it.

I am sorry to hear that you have been experiencing performance issues. However, contacting our customer support department is still the best way to receive technical assistance.
While the last ticket you submitted appears to have been successfully handled by one of our agents within 48 hours, other reports may take longer. This doesn't mean you are being ignored, but rather that the issue you are experiencing may require further actions from our staff, or depend on information from third parties (as is the case with payment issues).

Yes it is happening to me and I am losing items during those glitches. Recently I lost 125K in meat refill when this occurred. I contacted CS and once again I am being blamed for this known and on going issue and less than 1/2 of my loss was compensated, 60K. This is the second or third time now they have blamed me for this game error and this time not just me, but all of us are deleting these items that have no delete option or command.

The following is my reply to that blame message I found in my inbox this morning. I sent it through proper channels but we all know it will not be seen as they close out the tickets after compensation, 60K for the 125K I lost.

Thanks. That 60K is less than half of what I lost in that game glitch. Once again we are be blamed for an error that we can't possibly cause, once again being told we deleted an item we can't possibly delete. This isn't the first time this has happened. It always happens during an event or just after one has been removed and while the game is laggy and buggy, yet it is our fault and liability in loss even with cash purchased items. That high level of disrespect towards us and our games is what makes us fear making cash purchases here.


Those working on finding and fixing these kinds of issues have an impossible job of finding them when customer support is spending days, with line after line continually being logged, arguing with us over these issues and trying to get out of making things right. I don't believe anyone is even looking anymore or cares.

It is atrocious the customer would be blamed for the state of internal affairs and problems.

Browser freezes are an issue.

Clearing settings doesn't really abate the issue much or for long. Given how many different machines and browsers I play on and encounter the freezes sooner or later on all of them, I consider this issue to be endemic and unaddressed.

That stated, it's an annoyance, not the end of the world. If it gets bad enough, I'll move on to other entertainment. If it gets fixed, I'll be happy.

I just started having browser crash issues in the past couple of weeks. Probably crashes 6-7 times a day. A number of my guild members are also having this issue, as are a number of other players based on posts I see in various game chats. Not really sure why the devs need a "ticket to become aware of this problem. If that's the case, why post bug reports at all? When we mention the prob to mods or BB in chat we're told to send a ticket and post here as the devs read this thread. This thread was started in 2015. Can't believe that the devs aren't aware and haven't found a fix as of yet ;-)

I know you are working on this, but I want to say "Me too". Browser freezing up and a forced restart of the browser. Using chrome.

Yup this happens to me all the time, I cant play more then 15 mins without my game freezing.

Playing for months on a newer system with uptodate Win10 using chrome. I have the occasional flash crash like others but this is a new issue within the last 4 days.

I started a vlt adven and was able to take down the first camp and then all hell broke loose. The game froze and had to relog which is ok and was returned to home island. I re-entered the vlt numerous times and each time the game froze. I took my lumps and decided to call it a day.

The following day I tried to enter the vlt again but as soon as I hovered over the desktop shortcut the game froze, didnt even have to click on it. This issue lasted the entire day. Tried the adventure again today and was able to get to the island and actually killed off a camp and the game froze.

When the game freezes I am able to open other tabs in chrome and have no issues whatsoever. I submitted a ticket to support but have not been contacted regarding my issue and am hesitant to simply end the vlt, will the freezups continue on the next adventure? Am I going to loose troops as all my gens are still on that island? I dont see any posts for this issue in forums.

Chrome, Firefox, etc and TABS!!!!

One work around is to open a separate chrome for guides, forum etc.
Chrome makes the "unseen" tab as inactive. "Chrome will throttle individual background tabs"
Settlers is trying to chat to your browser, and your browser has gone walkabout, as an Aussie would say.

From the Chrome website;
"Efficient power usage is an important aspect of speed, one of Chrome’s key pillars. To prolong battery life, Chrome should minimize power impact from things users can’t see. This includes background tabs, which consume a third of Chrome's power usage on desktop. Starting in version 57, Chrome will throttle individual background tabs by limiting the timer fire rate for background tabs using excessive power.
Chrome has focused on improving the user experience by throttling tab performance for many years. Like many browsers, Chrome has limited timers in the background to only run once per second. Via the new throttling policy, Chrome 57 will delay timers to limit average CPU load to 1% of a core if an application uses too much CPU in background. Tabs playing audio or maintaining real-time connections like WebSockets or WebRTC won’t be affected. "

I am so frustrated by this freezing problem, I'm ready to quit the game. Would really hate to do that. running adventures includes having wiki up and checking it often, this freezes the game every time. If I have anything else up it also freezes. If the workaround is opening a new chrome for everything else, I will try that. Hope this gets fixed soon though. Very Very unhappy with reply from support, a long list of thigs to do that I already did.

Here's a workaround I discovered for the Chrome freezes lately.

Any time I look at anything on a separate tab - I get a freeze. Not a flash freeze - just a Chrome freeze. And it won't clear if I wait. It's just locked up.

Reloading the game every single time I switch tabs makes it pretty much unplayable for me. I have way too much going on to have only one tab open. I'm a multi-tasker, period. ALL of my play time is while I'm also doing other things. Otherwise, I might get in an hour a week, if I'm lucky.

So - if you click on the little information icon in the chrome web address bar, it opens the a little popup with the settings for the web page you are on. Change a setting (I toggle the camera setting back and forth between default and block) and then close that settings popup. Just ignore and close the information chrome gives you about reloading the site to make the settings go into effect.

Toggling the setting, for whatever reason, always clears my Chrome freeze. Hope this works for you as well.

Hmmm, that is an interesting work-around, TboneX, nice.... though still too much trouble for me to use Chrome for TSO on a regular basis. I use FF mostly, and sometimes use Opera, which is actually the most reliable of them all... When Chrome implemented that algorithym, I stopped using Chrome for TSO, not going to fiddle faddle around with a browser that thinks for me. We should dictate what we want it to do based upon our needs and available resources (CPA, RAM, etc.).
