I'm very happy to have gotten back spaces on the archipelago for mag residences that disappeared with the previous update. Thanks for fixing that. It also sounds like errors in the building grid are a root cause of locked zones. If I'm reading that correctly, then hooray that it's being addressed.
In the dev blog it says:
"Can't you just remove those buildings?
We don't want to remove buildings from your island. Instead we are giving you the choice to leave, move or tear down the building by yourself, keeping in mind the information above regarding the functionality of your buildings and your zone ."
I completely understand BB not wanting to destroy buildings that are improperly placed; however, would it be possible to highlight them for a limited time, say a week, so that we can move them? It seems entirely possible that a building or two can be placed incorrectly, I'm not aware of it and I didn't do anything underhanded to put it there in the 1st place, the map just let me. I think this is especially true of the archipelago. I cleared it almost right away so might have several errors on it that I'm not aware of, especially with island storehouses that I've taken to level 5 or 6 and don't want to destroy unnecessarily.
Keep up the improvements, and I really hope these change will help people that have been plagued with locked zones.
Wow! A professional BB confessional…
Well it is very refreshing to see BB explain that after years of players being accused of using exploits to gain unfair advantages over other players concerning Home Island building placement that it was bad code causing all the angst!
It’s a shame that this was not done long ago as many players suffered from these bugs locking zones for weeks or months even and many just left the game altogether. Now we see the truth after all these years and finally a series of remedies are being implemented.
I hope that this signals a new chapter in openness and honest dialog between BB and players and that we can continue to cooperative improve The Settlers Online… ;)
Yes, I would like to know which of my workyards aren't working, please provide a way for us to know.
Referring to this section:
Are there places where previously available building spots no longer exist?
Yes. Some of the spots previously available have become unavailable with the latest deployment. Some players may have buildings placed in these spots. We can't guarantee the functionality of those buildings or the stability of your zone, as long as there are buildings placed using the old blocking algorithm.
I don't think I have anything placed illegally, but I can't really tell.
I would like to know what buildings r in the spots that r now no longer available so I would be able to remove them but without a map of those areas I can not do that which has me concerned that I may not be able to access them so far I have not had any problems (thank god) but I would like to avoid having a problem in the future and thank you for telling us about this possible problem
Wouldn't it be simpler to put it this way:
Some buildings were allowed to be placed where they shouldn't be. Because it's too complex/expensive/inconvenient, we're changing this from a dev problem to a user problem. Users will have one week to fix their problem or risk having their entire island locked.
Also, I fail to see the significance of these detailed maps on where flowerbeds can be placed. What I'm interested in is where can I place a normal building?
To assist future development I've come up with this handy guide:

May I make the suggestion that your devs deactivate the action of workmen walking to and fro from deactivated buildings? Then we can figure out what we have to change. Thanks for considering.
I just bit the bullet and moved everything that I could. Lost about half my storage in the process. But it will be back and storehouses are cheap. Overall I have gained spaces, not lost. It sucks to take the time and do this, but I rather have this than a locked zone later.
