Hello Settlers,

I'm very happy to have gotten back spaces on the archipelago for mag residences that disappeared with the previous update. Thanks for fixing that. It also sounds like errors in the building grid are a root cause of locked zones. If I'm reading that correctly, then hooray that it's being addressed.
In the dev blog it says:
"Can't you just remove those buildings?
We don't want to remove buildings from your island. Instead we are giving you the choice to leave, move or tear down the building by yourself, keeping in mind the information above regarding the functionality of your buildings and your zone ."
I completely understand BB not wanting to destroy buildings that are improperly placed; however, would it be possible to highlight them for a limited time, say a week, so that we can move them? It seems entirely possible that a building or two can be placed incorrectly, I'm not aware of it and I didn't do anything underhanded to put it there in the 1st place, the map just let me. I think this is especially true of the archipelago. I cleared it almost right away so might have several errors on it that I'm not aware of, especially with island storehouses that I've taken to level 5 or 6 and don't want to destroy unnecessarily.
Keep up the improvements, and I really hope these change will help people that have been plagued with locked zones.
Wow! A professional BB confessional…
Well it is very refreshing to see BB explain that after years of players being accused of using exploits to gain unfair advantages over other players concerning Home Island building placement that it was bad code causing all the angst!
It’s a shame that this was not done long ago as many players suffered from these bugs locking zones for weeks or months even and many just left the game altogether. Now we see the truth after all these years and finally a series of remedies are being implemented.
I hope that this signals a new chapter in openness and honest dialog between BB and players and that we can continue to cooperative improve The Settlers Online… ;)
Yes, I would like to know which of my workyards aren't working, please provide a way for us to know.
Referring to this section:
Are there places where previously available building spots no longer exist?
Yes. Some of the spots previously available have become unavailable with the latest deployment. Some players may have buildings placed in these spots. We can't guarantee the functionality of those buildings or the stability of your zone, as long as there are buildings placed using the old blocking algorithm.
I don't think I have anything placed illegally, but I can't really tell.
I would like to know what buildings r in the spots that r now no longer available so I would be able to remove them but without a map of those areas I can not do that which has me concerned that I may not be able to access them so far I have not had any problems (thank god) but I would like to avoid having a problem in the future and thank you for telling us about this possible problem
Wouldn't it be simpler to put it this way:
Some buildings were allowed to be placed where they shouldn't be. Because it's too complex/expensive/inconvenient, we're changing this from a dev problem to a user problem. Users will have one week to fix their problem or risk having their entire island locked.
Also, I fail to see the significance of these detailed maps on where flowerbeds can be placed. What I'm interested in is where can I place a normal building?
To assist future development I've come up with this handy guide:

May I make the suggestion that your devs deactivate the action of workmen walking to and fro from deactivated buildings? Then we can figure out what we have to change. Thanks for considering.
I just bit the bullet and moved everything that I could. Lost about half my storage in the process. But it will be back and storehouses are cheap. Overall I have gained spaces, not lost. It sucks to take the time and do this, but I rather have this than a locked zone later.
the 'problem buildings' are a little bit concerning... Should I just move every building I have just to make sure?.. :\
More time and more tools needed.
Which of my buildings are/might be a problem? A floating indicator over such would be a HUGE help.
More time for free moves.
I'm doing what I can, but this is a very busy time at work for me. Please extend the Free Moves option, or at least let me pick when the duration starts so that I can plan accordingly.
How about a better way of getting rid of old roads?
Do you realize how annoying it is to go around with a pair of tweezers to clean your rug? For this sort of need I would LOVE a "nuke 'em all" button. That way I could be sure that the space that's not letting me build has an actual reason, not just a scrap of old road hidden under some pointless terrain graphic.
While we're at it, a better way to see where we can build.
Toggle on "Show places you can place buildings" and leave it on. Currently I have to endlessly cycle back and forth between Move Buildings and Draw Roads to try and figure out where stuff can be placed. It seems pointlessly annoying.
One of the earlier replies suggested a zone wide buff (that cost a fish) that lasted 5 or 15 minutes. I very much second that idea, and expand it to my other requests.
Thank you for your attention,
~ Kirk
I would like a way to know what's a problem as well. I don't really want to move anything, and I'm certainly not planning to move everything and destroying all of my level 6 storehouses just because one or two buildings may or may not be an issue.
Why, in the name of ping pong, are we seeing the silly confirmation message for these free moves? Yes, I know it's free, nada, zippo, zilch...so shut off the confirmation screens and save a little on the server load. There is no confirmation for the Mag Residences or the Pirate Residences so there must be a way to accomplish this.
i do have a question, please - why can't i move or delete storehouses? i would prefer to move them, but i can't do either action.
So basically there are "some instances" where buildings were placed incorrectly but we don't know (majority of us at least) which ones. I understand this "play and find it for yourself" attitude BB been showing toward us since the beginning, but this might be an actual issue that we could use a hint from BB.
Why not, as others players suggested, highlight the incorrectly placed buildings on our maps (if we have any)? My island is filled with stuff I don't have time to sit for hours and "guess" if any of my buildings are placed in a wrong spot. Astonishing. After 5 years you guys (BB) always seem to come up half way on everything.
Stop counting on players doing your job, posting screenshots of "discoveries" of incorrectly placed buildings and find a way to show it on our maps. Not like we cheated, you changed the placement rules! And now you expect us to find out the wrong spots? Only in MMO's ...
Dear BB's:
If I gave a tax return to one of my clients and said "By the way, there are errors here but you have to find them and fix them", I don't think I would have that client very long.
Stop penalizing us for your mistakes. The problems you have created with the maps YOU have created are just that - your problems. I'm not asking you to fix them. I am, however, asking you to show us by highlighting the buildings that are "improperly placed" due to your error. This is probably the reason my game freezes up so often and has for at least a year now and it only gets worse as time goes on. It's not my computer, this happens on whatever computer I play on. It's your design problem. For that reason alone there is no way to jump back and forth between your old and new blank maps and my island and try to fix your mistakes. Especially during the last week of tax season.... If you want to highlight my buildings that are "improperly placed" due to your mistakes I will be happy to fix them - provided you once again give free moving for more than a week and compensation for having to tear down level 6 storehouses.
lol and it seems the problem is company wide, i'm referring to the so called cheat in the tom Clancy game, that BB wants to penalize players for using. that someone never bothered removing.
Being punished for undocumented features!? How rude!
I read the information, and looked at the maps, then I changed my buildings around in the time I had to devote to the game. I was aware that some of my buildings were not working prior to this being addressed but I agree that there should be some way to highlight the ones that are not. I removed all of my decoration items and placed my work yards and then went back in and placed decorations.
I would like to say that I appreciate that someone from the design team took the time to try to explain the problem in a way that we could understand it, however I feel that only a certain percentage of the players can really grasp the problem enough to move work yards that are not working correctly.
I've been gone 2+ yrs and I came into the middle of this "free" 'move your stuff while you can' period. I didn't understand what it was all about but I did move some of my buildings into more advantageous positions that I'd remembered putting in places that didn't quite work. NOW I get it!
In any case my question is about my island & game play. There seem to be buildings & mines that are "asleep" & my population is frozen for obvious (to me) reasons. Is there some solution to me starting to play again without starting ALL the way over (meaning from Lv 1 & losing everything I've gained) so that I can resume where I left off or must I just sort of limp along while my resources S L O W L Y creep up to where I can ramp up production to where I can maybe Level up so I can REALLY start to play again? At this point I can't even contemplate attacking a minor bandit much less have enough to build enough residences to increase my population!
Any help would be SO appreciated!
I hope we get another free move later on again.
i get this when logging on.................something tells me "an error has been detected on this zone. please try again" is not good.
