I though it was just two, but yeah. 14 is rough... reminds me of this. And what is database maintenance? Preparing for the post-Halloween rollback? :p
Guess I should have paid more attention before sending my explorers. I thought it was just the standard couple hours not during the time when everybody is playing.
hard to believe they give such short notice for this
will they have the decency to extend the event to make up for it?
At least given the amount of maintenance, hit us over the head with how long it is. I didn't notice from the post on the main page, but this thread title caught my attention.
I'm about 3 minutes from finishing Woodcutter and refilling my nobles. I will be opening a ticket for replacement of my nobles cause this maintenance is perfectly timed from 6 pm central (been home from work all of 20 minutes) to 8 am central (I leave for work about 7:45 am), so anyone with a 9-5 type job is effectively locked out for up to 36 hours... well, unless you're like me and at least logged in for a few minutes. I just now realized the schedule is 14 hours not two hours.
A little miffed, is that the right word? My nobles had something around 27 pumpkins, if I can't get in until I get home from work tomorrow night they will be toast.
Um, so yeah christmas, guess I will spend four minutes on test tonight...
Sucks so bad. You guys can't do database cleanup between events? Meh...
A 14 hours of maintenance in the middle of a HOLIDAY event is totally OUTRAGEOUS. Just another way for the devs to give players the middle finger.
If this were at the start of or end of the event it would be understandable but smack in the MIDDLE. STUPIDEST scheduling of a maintenance I have ever seen and I used to play WoW so I have seen some real bone headed stuff but this is right up there in the top 5 ! :(
will we get credit for the day? ie. jewels and such bonuses.
Now how am i supposed to occupy myself all day at work? haha
If this was a planned maintenance BB should have given us at least 3 days notice so that we could sort out the buffing of our islands and timing explorers. Probably lost about 500 pumkins because of bad timing and 1/2 my production because of steaks running out. If it's unplanned hope they compensate us approprately, normally they are pretty fair with this.
Ack, I thought it was only for 2 hours as well. 14hrs update where the system is down entirely?? That is crazy with only giving a few hours notice BB. I know I'm going to lose at least 3 of my pumpkin patches now. Was going to put them to sleep as soon as I got home from work. Argh. Deposits have been very challenging to get this year, and I consider myself a very active player.
LadyToria
BB must have a major problem to fix if they are doing his now.
The problem is stupidity. Ron White, "you can't fix stupid"
Maybe some pumpkin fertilizer and a few hundred free pumpkins would be fair compensation?
My theory: They got hacked by the Russians!!! :D :D :D
Personally I think the whole system is rigged..... I blame the Germans!
The fair thing would be for BB to extend the event by 1 day. As far as I can see, it would not cost BB 1 cent to do this as well.

Well this stinks. I am away from home and just paid $5 for a wifi day-pass so I could log-in and do island maint/get daily log in. To say I am not happy is an understatement.
For F Sake....
Half of this **** event has been taken up by fixing this **** event.
why not keep our selves occupied for 14 hours in this place by haveing a trivia contest, or sum thing like that !!! ahh......ahhhhh......ahhhhhhhh
Deplorable
Considering the timing of this maintenance as well as the amount of time estimated, I'm guessing that this was dealing with a pretty big problem.
I wonder if they'll give out patch fertilizer to everyone who loses their patches during this, etc. This event may be the most broken one I can remember.
Hope that everyone at least gets paid OT over there...
It's a free game to play, so just keep that in mind. Better fix it than the game lock up in the middle of playing.
The hits just keep coming (( this is getting ugly.. trying to plan things out.. not good for getting new settlers to play this game.

Take your time :D
Bishop21 did us all great !!! I have so much broken furniture to burn this winter!!!! Thanks Bluebite for keeping my home warm this winter.
I had sometime to play tonight, if I had somewhere to play. Can't even log in before work to try and catch up. Got totally screwed here! As it is this event isn't the greatest, and you all just made it worse. I do hope you make this up to us.
you think a 14 hour maintenance in the middle of a HOLIDAY event is NOT going to discourage new players from coming here. They will more than likely think something like (gee if they can't get things sorted for a holiday event, think how bad everyday play must be.) we had standard maintenance yesterday and now a 14 hour one and we had a hot fix put in place right after the event was started. Sorry but this does not scream professional well run game. they had the event on the test server for a month to work these things out, seems like someone was asleep at the wheel to me !
So. Who here recalls the great rollback of 2012? You know, where the game went 1/2 a month backwards. In comparison, they're still well short of their biggest mess (not *really* the word I want to use) up yet. Could be vectoring for a solid second place though.
It's not so bad.
You forget: some people pay to play. There's a gem market for a reason. Many people, including myself, have paid to buy gems both during events and outside them. So perhaps you should not so casually dismiss this as a free game that no one should be upset about going down in the middle of one of the three biggest events of the year...
Lovely, all my pumpkin patches were running while I was working and come home to find the game down and Aeyline gave how much notice to this ???? Goes to show what kind of Poor Community Management we have. To allow such a thing during one of the largest events in the game with next to no notice. Lack of judgement, poor leadership quality, and zero common sense or care for the community itself. BlueByte needs to find the next community manager I think or continue to lose players due to incompetence of an employee.
The short notice (approx 9 hours) was not just here, It was also same uk/euro servers, The community managers relay information to us so not her fault personally.
Its just another example of bad customer service on BB part but most players over the years are used to this.
The game is back up. Y'all can stop complaining now.
I was able to get online about 2 hours before the maint (and that was the first notice I got of it) to stop my patches, send out explorers, etc -- but I know some people who had no idea this was coming and lost their pumpkin patches. I hope BB will send them free fertilizer.
They are giving us the finger in support too blaming us for all the bugs and glitches going on and not making them right. It seems pretty obvious they are working hard trying to clean it up yet still giving us the finger about merchant and excelsior items not going into our inventory. I can't believe they have the audacity to say we are deleting items that are impossible for us to delete. Buyer beware.
I hope they realize we are talking about this to all of our steam friends and anyone else who will listen.
So would you all rather they left whatever problem there and did sweet FA about it, and maybe have a database crash in 2 days time?
sheesh. I really don't think they wanted to work all night (it started around midnight German time) on maintenance *just* to give you all something to ****** about...
That's not to say that I wouldn't regard, say, a 200% gem sale as a nice gesture in view of the inconvenience :D
