Really bad timing. Middle of the day on mostly day off. And with almost no warning (although that's pretty common).
Anyone know what they're fixing? Generally feel better about these things if I know why...
Guess I'll go in the family room and watch TV. See if the kids are taller than the last time I saw them.
Having over 30 years in the computer/IT industry, I understand the need for db maintenance and the like, however, such short notice is pretty bogus if this not a critical issue. Due to (among other things) the recent release of generals skills, most players had various buffs, mines, quarries and buildings running; having no schedule, many have buffs that are now wasting away or mines that had to be shut down as they would expire during this maintenance and cause potentially dangerous issues with depleted mines and/or buffs (like Wilderwood Resin) which, thanks to the timing, will be utterly wasted in its last 10h as one is unable to change the book ordered. A little planning and communication would have been really nice. 6x Rainbow Bags, a Barazek, and Wilderwood Resin were forced to be shut down on my island, not counting the lost production time on the various buildings.
Thank you for the advance notice, ~24 hours was nice. A change log at the time of notice would be useful, although I do look forward to seeing what change are ahead. :)
I am hoping they Fix the store. Update things players can purchase. Maybe add "Return to Bandits Nest" using frags to buy it. :]
Is this hotfix and backup a precursor to something good, like mebbe a Crisis Event?
As notice goes, this was pretty good. I was not surprised and was able to change some things around to make it so I was not completely unprepared. Rather have this during the day instead of prime playing time, but that sort of timing is what we are used to.
Um, you asked for one hour and it has been 8?
I was fooled as well :(
but look closely.. its from 8 PM to 9 AM...
Wonder what takes soooo long.. wish a change log was published..
And I hope my daily login bonus doesn't get screwed.. because thinking it is 1 hour.. I did not bother to re-login, to claim the bonus
(It doesn't popup until I refresh :( )
so what you did was fixing a very old bug, now ive 49k troops in a 38k pop cap...
fixing the specialists not graying out was too much to do i suppose....
also, just make that first aid round down the numbers, its very annoying killing a gen with 1 troop and have that 1 troop come back in the gen, or just make it empty the gen automatically
Well thanks BB--- whatever you did has caused my pop numbers to be upside down by over 1,000 peeps. Not only that, but before the update I had around 1K free workers, so I've been hit by close to 2,000. I can't even man a new iron mine :(
Furthermore, I only have one general with First Aid skill, and I've done very little adventuring. I cannot believe that a 3/6/9% adjustment would add up to 2K people. That would mean that one general had burned through a minimum of 6,666 troops --- and there is just no way I've killed anywhere near that many.
I think your calculations need another look :(
a warning would be nice, really, i couldn't start some mines with this mess.
i had to kill like 4k troops...
(and i'm glad i ran a besieged and a blt yesterday evening lol)
plus i don't believe we gathered that many pop from first aid skill, the numbers were bongos for years.
+1
i gave up to unload MMA 1r.
the problem is i had to make 100 lb for a pathfinder quest and all my generals got first aid so... i will never be able to get rid of them. i never use lb on adv.
(btw, who had the brilliant idea to create a quest 'train 100 xbows, 100 es and 100 cannoneers'? do you really think a player lvl 70+ lose this still expensive units very often and need to train some on a weekly base?)
numbers may have been "bongos for years"... but supposedly that was all previously addressed.....this update had to be more than "3/6/9% adjustment"...
or else their calcs are just wrong: in my case, i'm now 1,070 over my pop limit, and I know I had at least a few idle workers....
I only have first aid skill on one general @9%
if I lost 1070 workers, this means that one general killed some 11,888 troops since he became skilled--> right?
and there's no way, i've barely adventured in the last week, think I ran a Sleepy Reef and maybe something else small
NO WAY one MMA general has killed 11K+ troops
lol, almost 10k extra troops... not only that, some premium troops (XB, ES, Cannon, and cav) all had 250+ troops that were not there yesterday... I keep meticulous track of their levels.. so now I have to 'burn' them off as well.
9% of one recruit would be like, his head? or leg?
Population limit in my island now shows 23452/19040 with Unemployed Setters: 4. What???
I used to have around 2300 available after adventure. Now, I can't queue up troops in barracks.
Was there an adjustment in population or is this a bug?
This problem has been around for a long time. Some whining snaffler had to push the issue and get it fixed?! I mean, really? Was it hurting anyone outside of ascetics?
Would not be so bad if we we given notice or something (NO, that morning notification is not sufficient). In any case, why would this issue require an immediate hot-fix?? They seem to be just fine with other bugs remaining forever (think the specialists that no longer grey out when your star is pinned).
Ge, thanks for screwing up everybody's population that was fine before the Hot Fix... ;(
Most of us have probably built up armies well over our population limit because.... well.... we could. I have over 30,000 total units, 327 working settlers and 7 unemployed. Unemployed settlers used to be a few thousand.
Suppose only time will tell what the heck really happened here, but I imagine I'll have to pare down my armies by about 3,000 troops to be within my actual population limit. Which means I'll run a few expeditions and finally kill those goons off.
Don't know why this was an urgent fix and why it came about with no advanced warning whatsoever, but I've gotten used to these kinds of things around here. All of this has been going on since expeditions, so using first aid as the reason for the hot fix??....... Really??
Guess it's not that big a deal, but one more time BB leaves me shaking my head over their thought processes and implementations.
quite a rude surprise, indeed
I have 11k unemployed settlers. Welcome to my happy town. I think those numbers sound about right. I am at my pop cap now, though, which means bouncing icons above my village schools. Helpful to know, but I don't need to know it all the time nor can I as readily address the issue like I could with any other resource (I like the icons for storage full otherwise). I'm tempted to spend the 6k coins and move them to somewhere on my island I rarely look at.
So I now have exactly 4000 troops over my max population limit.
I am now about 3300 pop over my limit. 1 guy is still unemployed, though.
Edit :The below post that got move here anyway...
While killing off some of my pop due to the adjustment, noticed a secondary problem that makes it MUCH worse.
Making a separate thread as otherwise this will be buried in the fix feedback and probably not noticed, most likely not noticed anyway but...
In readjusting the army number due to pop change, the army makeup is also effected. I have to remove 2,200 troops.
My total army composition was done to give me the max number of cannons to have many generals working at once, while leaving me enough troops (recruits, mil etc.) for damage soak. NOW, I have to remove 2,200 troops, leaving me with nothing to protect my cannons etc.
So in order to make room, I have have to kill off some cannons and other high cost units to make room for the cheaper sacrifice troops. You have any idea how expensive that is for smaller folks like me?! That's like months of economy flushed down the drain!
Seriously, I'd rather all the books for the generals removed and have my old army/pop numbers back.
Only hope is it's another pop cal error, and the fix is again fixed. As I did HALF an adventure with the new "first aid" which this supposedly corrects, as there's no way I created 2,200 extra troops from an army of ~7K in that. And no way did I get my current army setup done in that time.
Edit: looking at it some more, and what I'll be able to do game wise (quests/adventures) with the new numbers. Won't be sticking around. Slow progress is fine, gives you something to work for. But just after getting into Ali Baba quests, and now not being able to do them most probably for a year or something. Nah. Not going backwards that far and doing that again. Only hope is the new pop truely is an error and it will be fixed.
Edit2:
Lol, guess they take time enough to move posts into the thread of ignore, but not enough to answer. Getting a cold Anno vibe from when they had that economy fix and other issues.
*Crickets*
am I the only one not impacted by this change?
Man.. I feel left out :(
But this must be the only good thing about not doing adventures to begin with :D
Yesterday, I filed a support ticket regards the huge adjustment (negative) to the population limit. Below is part of the e-mail response received today. In addition, my Guild mate relayed that the German server has been down for a day now; as they are fixing the issue.
'Per The Settlers Online' Support Team:
"I have had several reports on this. Please rest assured that the Developers are already working on this matter. In the meantime, I apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience in this matter on behalf of myself and the developers."
FYI
lol, yeah, if you're not losing troops, never gonna have an option of building too many! :D All good now... just had to put 9.5k troops through the meat grinder; was a good reason to knock off some of those 80+ tikki's laying around. Boring, but productive yesterday.
Since the update, I've had an ongoing error in my population limit. It currently reads as 3773/3145, which is obviously prompting some problems with staffing new mines, recruiting new troops, etc.
I'm not certain if the bug is in the population (3773) or in the limit (3145), as I really wasn't paying close attention before update.
Hello Settlers,
We are currently investigating reports of mismatched population numbers since the latest update. However, we advise affected players to sacrifice some units in order to quickly adjust their current population to their actual limits.

I wonder how 2,200 out of 7,300 is 'some'. I thought 'some' would be around 5%, not 25%.
And after getting rid of 25%, which if it's going to be done in some 'meh it's nothing attitude', is all Recruits, Mil etc. I have nothing left to tank for my cannons when it comes to the battles. And killing off my cannons etc to make room for more recruits.... that's not an low cost affair.
As mentioned in a prior post, which of course isn't read along with the rest... as it's in a feedback thread and nothing of value would ever be in one of those.
