[Feedback] The Black Knights Event

So they took a popular adventure and gave it extra loot for a couple of days, and people were complaining? Seriously? Because of my time zone I got up just before the event ended so had time to do only one quick BK, and am very disappointed the event was cancelled so quickly. The monochrome colour scheme was a little annoying, especially on adventures where it made it hard to see the general, but weigh that minor inconvenience against the chance of getting a bone church or witch tower from BK, and it didn't seem like such a huge deal to me. And I say that as someone with cataracts whose vision isn't that great. I still think the idea was good and am sorry the event was cancelled before some of us even got a chance to take part.

My constructive feedback would be:
- add an option to override graphical overrides (like color in BK, and even the 'darkness' in sandman, if it ever takes the game 'as a whole' like BK's)
- send messages as coloured messages in the 'system' tab, and make it flash, or add a dedicated badge or even a dedicated chat tab to replace the annoying dialogs. When I woke up I seen there were three dialogs, one over the other, last atop the previous, and each adding a 'darkness' layer (modal) to the game. When I clicked out the last dialog all was b&w and I thought it was a glitch
- events build up nicely without game restart, good job! I could see the items in merchant, all b&w, and black knights walking around the village.
- the item above was great except that the event had already been cancelled for some hours after I seen it. I mean, the event build up but does not destroy down once put out -- at least not in the forced way it was now. I seem to have found other events "dismantle" nicely without game restart in the past.

I personally could live with the event without major issues, but I'm not a heavy player. I'm sorry the event didn't turn out as good as you expected and I believe it is required a lot of effort to bring up such a new unique event to the game, artwork, client-server, and also the marketing/communication. It is not a simple "bingo" or "trivia" that just takes chat to happen.

The surprise was a nice attempt too but maybe the drawback of the event would be revealed before going live if it sat on the test server for some days. In the future, surprise events should be put up risking less, so that it wouldn't be necessary to backstep it (minor modifications, and options to "undo" them specially if they affect gameplay and/or graphics).

Actually, a good idea would be a "opt-out" switch for people to be able to enlist out of such events. It should not allow the user to reactivate it once opted-out (for that specific event). BB and Mods should be able to mail "opt-in" tokens to users to opt back in for some reason (or a /opt-back-in <user> affecting other players). As far as the client is concerned, it will just not earn the prizes (when loot is changed), no visual effects (which won't affect multiplayer instances) and no merchant tab.

Well, that's a lot to suggest! :) I hope some of these helps!

My main complaint is that I didn't get to see it myself to offer any constructive feedback. I appreciate those who tried it and also made time to offer specific suggestions rather than simply dismissing it. Experiments are worthwhile and fun. Mistakes are worthwhile and also can be fun if we don't take them too seriously. I agree it was a risk trying a surprise without putting it on the test server, though I enjoyed not knowing what to expect. Sorry it didn't work out better.

I doubt that the rate for the special slots was moved above the normal 2% based upon the large number of peeps who noted no bonus slots in their loots. So long as each slot had a separate chance of dropping, that does not bother me.

For a quickie type event, I agree, not sure what all the sniveling was about. As a side note, when I began programming (a long time ago... galaxy far far away...), much of my work was on monochrome monitors. The grayscale was not much of an issue for me, though, I suppose it would have been nice for peeps to be able to turn it off, not everyone had zone buffs to clear it. I kind of liked running the BK in that mode. :D

So I missed the entire epic disaster. BB was doing usually okay lately with their content, so I guess making the biggest mistake in years was inevitable.

PS: If you are going to try again, could you make the event last a week instead of 2 days? If it the event worked, I would have only been able the play 2-3 BKs over the next couple of days due to work and life.

Personally, the monochrome color made it hard for me to see, on adv. where anything was, with eye issue I've been having. That being said, I started out hopeful. Was not thrilled when I noticed, after I started BK adv. the

Tokens: There will be no quests to get Tokens available. The "follow up" adventures at the merchant are fake news and just there for the sole purpose of worshipping the best adventure of all times.

as that looked like the best part of the event :( Maybe you could implement that if you plan on running this again. Thank you for the 1 day premium coins though, I was running low on star coins for 1 day prem. coins.

Sad I didn't get a chance to see purple ducks floating around.

Sounds like it could have been a good event aside from not being able to switch the color that may have annoyed some, but I didn't get to explore it very much before it went away. I never play BK anymore, but it would be good to see more reasons like this to go back to some adventures I used to do.

if you made no color change except for BK or just leave it optional it would be an amazing event.

It was not only on BK, Raubh, and not only black and white. All 'normal' adventures got the same misty gray maps, practically impossible to see where to land gens... or where the bandit camps are... or any red area. Imagine sending first block on BLT while you can't see the rocks...

I could live with an island buffed with white paint for a few days or a week, but this mist was cutting all normal adventures from me. I got the 2 co-op quest from pathfinder, we started them right after the event started and was a nightmare for me to finish them. (very poor eyesight here, practically i had to hover mouse over map to find the enemy camps, i knew where they were, but still not good enough so i did not need to see them before sending attacks).

How disappointed I was when the Event was cancelled by BB...every event takes about 2 hours to acclimatize to it...once I did, I was loading up and running back to back Black Knights for rewards...please reissue the event...TSO is all about challenge and I love a challenge!!!... :P

In my opinion, the biggest misstep with this event was the timing. It was an event clearly programmed as an April Fools Day prank, that you tried to implement on a day that wasn't April Fools.

If this had happened back then, it would have been shrugged off as the funny annoying thing it was meant to be, and probably appreciated as a little extra diversity and effort. But in July, when we are all starving for something to fill the space between Easter and Halloween, and you market it as this wonderful, amazing, never before seen thing, we are going to expect that - and we get a late April Fool's Day joke? It just came off like a slap in the face to many people. For what it was worth, I do appreciate the effort to bring something extra, but a little more thought is definitely required.

Thoughts on the event: It has been mentioned, but the grey scale made it difficult to play adventures properly (seeing camps, intercept zones...) and having that color scheme thrown into every adventure was too much. Perhaps just add it to the actual BK adventure only since it was a BK specific event. The homezone could be fixed on its own with other color scheme buffs so no big deal there. Also tokens should have actually been added to adventure loot and then allow us to purchase the black box and Black Monday item with tokens as an alternate option. Lastly, instead of outright cancelling the event right away after the complaints roll in, if it had been possible to somehow add a cancel button somewhere for people to just opt-out, so that some people who want to try it out could still keep playing it. I was awake to see it start but then went to bed since it was well past midnight, and when I woke up it was already long over.

so you were surprised that this event bombed... hhmmm. this could have all been avoided if you tested the event out first. perhaps on some sort of "test server" a place where players can try out your ideas and suggest how to fix em before they go live. have you ever thought about using the test server for these events?

Thank you for effort for a event, it was an interesting idea (I was not able to participate though due to time zone issues w/ the event starting in the middle of night on a work day, but I now have a bk to finish tonight since I started one before work with the intent of running it after work)

I skipped over most of the feedback. The first page seemed to sum things up.

However, I will say something about what was wanted. Another crisis event would have been fine. The black Knight theme was ok, but a better theme would have been with an adventure that does not get run much. Maybe SOTV with special loot for running it.

Repeating one of the old crisis event would have been ok with a different set of prizes. I bet you could still do that, since you still have the code and you only need to change out the prizes.

to get people to use the seldom run events, here is an idea. pick an adventure and allow people to use up to 10 copies of that adventure at once. each extra copy of the adventure that you use increases the loot by 10%. so the max is double loot. you can start with adventures that are rarely run.
or, allow people to spend extra map frags on adventures to increase the loot. anything to use up map frags or useless adventures...

I'm just pissed off the event was cut short in the middle of a work night, so the only people who got to participate were the same people who cried so hard that it ended.

Many of us never had a chance to run any BKs, or even access the event shop, due entirely to the complaints of those who DID get access to it... seems unfair.

The idea was good to have a 2 days of increased loot and I liked the idea of having black knights roaming around ..like I said before the theme was good and I appreciate the effort. :)

Man, I thought nothing could ever be worse then Four Winds....guess I was wrong. Logged in this morning and after about a minute of playing I already knew it was going to be rolled back before the pop-up hit the server. Not play testing 4tl.

You tried now rework it give them an option to return the color, give us some thing to do besides the Black Knight adventure, cause some lower levels will not have the troops and or resources to run several of them or make those false one in the market real for a super low cost.

Well nice one all you shining wits, you whine about no events and then whine when there is one cos it's not what you wanted. Due to my personal activities, I never actually ran any BK before they pulled it anyway, so I can't comment on rewards. I can say that yes, the monochrome made things different and harder to see but I managed to find collectibles on my island even so.

And if you really really hated it, and couldn't stand to look at that mono picture for more than 5 minutes, well, the whole event was only 2 days fer chrissakes, you could've just manned up and done minimal maintenance for those 2 days and waited for it to finish instead of getting it pulled before some people even had a chance to SEE it.

If it wasn't perfect, like some things didn't get included, well, life ain't perfect. If you go around expecting perfection in everything then you're gonna be constantly disappointed, which is a poor way to live. Me, I was looking forward to a couple days R'n'R from running VLTs and rebuilding troops flat out. But I didn't get that, so thanks a bunch.

I thought the events are for everyone, not only for players with good eyesight... or for players lvl 42+...

Oh man....... I miss all the good stuff! By the time I logged on, the event was already over and I was wondering WTH happened. Reading thru the comments, I can see that it might have been kinda fun and interesting overall.

The monochrome color scheme probably would have bothered me as much as it does some others. I can't handle the snow buffs either, it hurts my eyes and literally gives me a headache.

I saw the Black Knight gif on the main page when I logged on and thought it was kinda cool. Hope you guys can polish this event up a little and bring it back. Thanks for trying, sorry it didn't work out this time.

Well Ill start with the positive of it for me, Building drops, I had 2 building drops during this event and its the first time I've seen one in over a yr. In general the Building drops have gone way to low. I can understand a challenge but like 300 bks and no castle, i mean are you serious? another example, the bone church, if the event would have lasted longer, i would have kept up the bks in hopes to get a bone church, or even more witch towers. Another example is some people do one of the co-ops for bone churches, but if the drop percentage is so low whats the point. I don't even like whirlwinds but id do them if there was a real chance to get the building. The Juice has to be worth the Squeeze. I think its a great idea, to bring it back but making the adventure and the island under a black night well, id say that should be a zone buff only and everyone needs to get the info on it ahead of time. That,s my 2 cents, of course if its a penny for my thoughts then someones making a penny, oh please also check my recent post on unwanted changes to BK, You changed the map and made a major block too difficult to use

You know ... Ever since they cancelled this Event, I have not once gotten the 600 gold in that gold/bread/meat slot despite playing it like 10-12 times since then.

Yes, welcome to the show. I have noticed that these 'not exceptional unlucky periods' ONLY happen to the bad and not the good... kind of upsets the distribution. I was once informed:
