Throughout time and from the very beginning, you have shared your game knowledge with the others, you have helped your colleagues understand the game and have created guides on how to conquer your home island and play adventures in The Settlers Online.

On this day, we'd like you to do the opposite: put your creativity to good use and tell us what's the worst way of playing the game. You can start by creating an infamous list:

1. Leave your explorers at home, they never find what you want anyway...
2. Always let your Arctic Iron Mines run out of ore... the depleted mine looks so much better!
3. When reaching the enemy camp, don't attack. Instead, pretend that you were just passing by and observe how they start attacking your troops.

I always like the idea of loading my island full of the wonderful artifact provided to us by Roaring Bull Loots, Horseman Statues. Need to have lots of idols for the soon-to-be fodder to worship! :recruit:

1) do not waste sources on upgrades, they are not cost effective
2) do not go on adventures. The loot never pay of the loses
3) make as many soldiers from every free man
4) don´t waste material on houses, they do not produce anything
5) sell as much material as possible. Only money makes the wealth
6) don´t bother with events, they are repeating again and again
7) keep peace and humanism. No killing, even the bandits, they are humans too
8) don´t waste your time in guilds, most of the people are sleeping or asking something
9) place all the stuff you obtain on your island, its so empty

Convert your entire military force into 'Heavy' units for Expeditions. Only attack Huge colonies, while ensuring you only select coal colonies. Oh, and be sure to set the cavalry units at the enemy soldier units, bow units at the enemy cavalry and lastly send your soldier units straight at the enemy bow units! Follow these general guidelines and your success will be stupendous. Enjoy! :D

My top 10 advice to noobs:

1. Buy resources with gems. Why wait to produce them?
2. Guard the Mayor's house with your troops. It is a dangerous world out there.
3. Be very careful whom you befriend. They might steal things from your island.
4. Don't join a guild. They might steal things from your island. Besides, you can buy guild coins, when needed.
5. Don't bother upgrading buildings. They take a long time to produce anything anyway.
6. Watch out for blue or yellow text in chat. Colored text can be harmful to your eyes, so close the chat box.
7. Forget about making stuff in the provision houses, barracks, bookbinder or mayor's house. They get in the way of chatting.
8. Avoid adventures. You will lose precious troops that guard your Mayor. Besides, why send your troops to a far off island, when you have bread and brew in the Mayor's house?
9. Be the first to get the most sought after event items. So what if you have to spend gems? If you bag it, you can brag it!
10. Tell everyone about your wonderful real life. Too many people chat about the miserable weather, their miserable teams and their miserable lives -- it is deplorably depressing. Let us know about your vacation plans and which credit card you use to buy gems.

defnding a section from attack wave after wave hard to beat
not build mines buying alll the goods you can

1 ignore your production chain, you always run out.
2 just attack you'll win some time, no need to look up guides.
3 trading ,always ask half of what any one else list and offer double for what you want.
4 books no need for the generals to read, they will attack when sent any way.
5 no need to send out geologist more then once or twice a week mines alway go empty.
6 explorers only every few weeks they bring back the same old adventures and resources all the time , give them a good rest.

If you have an Endless Copper Mine, be sure to use all of your Omniseeds to refill it. Gotta keep that Endless Copper Mine filled at all costs!

1 Always send your generals to adventures with 0 troops.
2 Buff only your own island, don't bother buffing friends islands. The buff last only half as long on your friends island.
3 Don't ask for help in help tab, nobody will help you anyway.
4 Never use rare buffs, keep them in your star menu.
5 Stop all the production of your buildings, items take too long to make anyway
6 Place your building as far as possible from the storage, settlers like to walk distance with items

Ignore the Anti-Day advice (NOT)

At my opinion and from past experiments, I realy believe that buying everything with gems ruined the fun and the game.

Infinite source of gems, probably best trick in this game
- buy gem pit, place on your island
- extract few hundred gems ( 2-3 days)
- tear down the gem pit, will go back to your star menu
- place it back , but make sure its on different location - and voila, you have fresh 20k gem pit.
- extract few hundred more, and repeat.

Never buff your stuff; under no circumstances buff your friends' stuff; never make any friends to start with, unless you intend to totally ignore them later.

Some of the advice here is actually pretty close to how I play the game. :D
Still I think I can improve if I follow these tips:
0. Dont complete any quests. But if you do,
1. Dont build Trade Office.
2. When freeing home island keep sending Generals with 200 Soldiers to attack the Wild Mary and 199 Dogs boss camp. If frustrated with no progress switch to sending Generals with 200 Crossbowmen instead.

Buy an ls. Send your general but wait as long as possible before you do anything. Then attack the block camp.

I like to 1)put clumps of cutters and foresters(such as pine) all over my island but if you want to be even more efficient put all the cutters on one side of the island and all the foresters on the other. 2)Don't worry about getting storehouses near mines, those little weebles can dig their way to the stores if they are smart. 3)Stack all your extra storehouses together in one place and then build a bunch of residences around them, after all you only need 1 storehouse to claim a sector. 4)Do NOT buy all the explorers you can, a) they fill up your star b) they don't help you get event items(like eggs, pumpkins, or presents)around 300 a day isn't worth it any way and of course, it costs too much to send them out on treasure searches.

dont use guides kill every camp on every adventure . conquer adv before clearing your home island . most of all dont worry about population increases

The best anti-advice is to simply not login.

1. Create a very long and confusing alphanumeric soup player name that nobody can spell and be sure to add lot of O's and 0's and I's, 1's and l's.
2. Completely forget that The Settlers Online is based on computers and that you can click on things, then go ask in Help how to copy and paste.
3. Decline all friends request.
4. Decline all Trade offers sent from friends who somehow got in your friends list.
5. Find a player level 50 or above and buff all their sleeping buildings with rainbow snow.
6. Share something personal with a friend in private IM, hit enter, then notice you have the General chat window open.
7. The same as number 6 but make a Guild announcement of why a player was kicked from the guild, then notice you're in Trade tab.
8. When placing trades if you think in your head that 12,000 is 12k you only have to type 12 for the amount of coins u want and the computer will automatically know you mean 12,000... aka 12k... I want 12 of those K things.

Glad to help. You would be surprised how many players have a parent, spouse, roommate, or friend logging in and “helping” the island. It can be exasperating. I have moved your real island to stealth mode. Just click the wheat farmer in the bottom right when you want to access your real island. You can now go ahead and wreck your fake “real” island to make him stop working on your island.
Here are some suggested ways to wreck your fake “real” island.
First, you are running only 5 of the 12 sets of buildings you own which use coal. Sell all but 5,000 of your coal, and then turn on all your coal-using buildings. He will see coal is low but he won’t be able to figure out which ones to turn off and which ones to turn on without dramatically altering your island’s functioning.
Second, to reinforce the first step, buy the most expensive buffs you can until your coins are gone. That stops him from buying coal with coins.
Third, remove his ability to do adventures to get coal quickly. Remove many of your noble residences to reduce your available soldiers. Don’t sell them since he will see the sales happened. Instead, trade the ones you remove to friends for a pine log each, while explaining in a message you then delete that you need to get rid of your extra noble residences. Then create many expedition troops to make it look like you took an interest in doing expeditions. That should leave few soldiers available to do regular adventures.
Those three steps should drive your helper to lose interest in your Settlers Online island. Until he leaves, you can keep working on your real island by clicking the wheat farmer in the bottom right.

I vote for Sitaw's list, and btw, i am coming down with the flu, the weather is horrible this time of year, i plan a "staycation" my credit card has been canceled, and my Mayor was just arrested for embezzling. And don't you dare try to steal anything. I still have Auntie Irma you know. She has some wicked bad rolling pins made from ewood and titanium. She is a force to be reckoned with, and she always has my back. And what do you have against Tropical Sun??? I just run them one after the other.....only 5,000,000 more times, and I can level up!!

Whahahahahahahaaaaaaaa!

1. as you open up each sector of your island, place roads all over the sector so you know where to place your buildings and keep it organized

2. place as many noble residences as possible and don't think ahead about population limits

3. don't save up your gems and get any of the gem pits, make sure to buy everything possible as fast as possible using those gems

4. place as many decorations as possible on your island because their looks are more important that any population or production buildings you could place in those spaces

5. don't ever follow any guides, you can finish adv's blindly without any help from others who have done them and if you do decide to follow a guide, make sure you only use the ones that have huge losses and only a few limited options to choose from for those adv's made by a single person without any serious thought or suggestions from others.

6. make sure to lvl up your FT castle to lvl 6 as fast as possible, because lvl 5 is just not enough and you don't need those resources anyways

7. make sure to lvl every noble up to lvl 6 because those expensive resources are far more worth having 100 pop than using other buildings that give loads more population for the space

8. don't ever trench your gens, they are far more effective if they sit on your island in view and you don't need those spaces anyways

9. make sure to place as many wheat fields as possible on your island around your farms because you will gain grain much much faster the more fields you have

10. don't ever take advice or suggestions from other players who have been playing longer than you, you know everything much better than they do since they went through all the aches and pains of the older game progressions that you will never have to go through so they can't know more than you do.

11. don't plan ahead or think of the future within the game, only the now matters and you will never need o adjust or make changes later on

12. never join a guild, you don't need their experience, knowledge or help, you can do much better on your own

13. make sure to level as fast as possible, do not consider resources, generals, etc whatsoever, because your level is the only thing that matters and the higher lvl you are, the more you know than anyone else in the game

14. never ask questions, why bother other people when you already know better than them and it's better to make serious errors than to learn from others experiences

15. make sure to ask other people about things before you even try and figure it out yourself, even if it is right in front of your face, it's best to make yourself known quickly and you can't learn things if you try on your own

16. if anyone offers help or advice, make sure to look at their lvl and only their lvl to see if they are high enough lvl to know what they are talking about, everyone who has been playing a long time is at the highest levels and nobody every uses the test server

17. make sure to post trades in help tab and global tab and ask help questions in global tab and trade tab because everyone likes it when you post in the wrong tab much more than if you were to post in the correct tab

18. make sure to troll as many people as possible in various tabs, even if you have no idea what you are talking about because everyone likes to trolled and you will become really popular quickly

19. develop your island to produce only 1 thing in massive quantities and nothing else, you want to make that thing to sell on TO and just buy everything else, that's the best way to play the game and have the most fun in it

20. ask others to buff your 400+ buildings because nobody else has anything better to do than spend 20 mins on your island buffing every single building on your island and it's always best to ask than to have someone offer.

Why bother cluttering up your island by placing down any buildings? No need, it is beautiful as is and looks marvelous. Why would you want to be limited by that pesky building queue anyway? Too much hassle...

Before an Event heavily buff all foresters so there will be lots of trees and wood. Don't worry about finding the special collectibles, just zoom in. You don't want to run out of wood do you??

Do not follow ANY guide, including this one...Oh, and during a block, between the block attack and the leader camp attack, throw on a horseshoe to speed up the attacks (this actually works).

Well the best advice I have is play this in front television and get so involved you ingore all chat, production and adventures. No time for buffs, they just make it pretty. Turn game off at end of show, Bye Bye!

2. Beg for resources in trade tab. It's a good way to make friends.
3. Buy gems and then give away all the things you bought.
4. Buy the gold tower, then leave it in your star menu because you don't produce enough wheat to keep it going.
5. Never buff any buildings.
6. Never sleep any of your buildings. Always run them until they run out of resources.
7. If buildings are lacking a resource, tear then down. Rebuild them when you get more resources.
8. When adventuring, always start your adventure without enough troops to run it.
9. When low on troops start a multiplayer adventure and then invite a player to "help" you. Another good way to make friends.
10. Argue with more experienced players in your brand new guild. A very good way to make friends.
11. When doing an adventure the best way to handle the bandit camps is to throw random amounts of the most expensive troops you can make at each camp until you run out. Then cancel the adventure.
12. Join the first guild that invites you. Take as much free stuff as they will give you, then quit and move on.
13. When doing your first adventure, Bounty Hunter, ignore everyone telling you to send 88 cavalry and send recruits instead.
14. Chat moderators absolutely love it when you argue with them about what the chat rules really mean. Your best defense is that someone else just last week did what you just got caught doing and nothing happened to them.
15. When you are not sure if you should post something in global chat, by all means just do it.
16. As soon as you reach a level that allows you to try out a new multi-player adventure, start that adventure and look it over. Then invite your friends to "help" you and watch them so you can learn what to do.
17. On your island, you don't need any store houses. Just build all your buildings as far away from the Mayor's house as possible.
18. Make sure you build a good network of roads on your island. That way there will be less clutter of buildings everywhere.
19. There are guides written to help you conquer your island and do adventures in the most efficient way possible. IGNORE them and ignore everyone that posts you a link to them and suggests that you use them.
20. Players love getting friend requests from people that have never chatted in global chat. Send out plenty.
21. When you do get a friend, wait until they are offline and place as many fish platter buffs as you can on them.
22. When trading always ask in global trade what something is worth. When directed to the trade chat tab, just ask again in global.
21. When asking a question in any of the global channels and someone takes the time to post a link for you, do not copy that link and paste it in your browser to see what they want you to see. Instead go to another chat channel and ask the same question over there.
22. If you do go visit a site that answers your question, do not save that site in your browser. Simply ask the same question in global again after you have forgotten what the answer was. It doesn't matter if it is one week later, one day later or one hour later. The other player's will remember you asked that question before and will be happy to post the link again for you.
23. Also when visiting a web site that provides help regarding the game, do not look at any other pages on the site. Only read the specific information regarding your question and then close the browser tab.
24 Focus on doing ALL quests that the game asks you to do. No matter the cost, the quest is worth concentrating all your efforts on getting it done asap.

It is perfectly fine to have a few duplicates. It is really expected to happen at some point. No one wants to live next to the Mayor! :p

Not being able to play the game on smartphones (excluding workarounds).

send blocks after the attacks, works every time!

1.when asking something in trade never say 'please', they will help you anyway so, why bother... take your time, better be afk a few min after asking, it looks cool and will make everything more interesting... and after received it never say 'thank you', better just ignore everyone

2.send as many friend requests you can and
-when you want to sell a ls start whispering to all, you will find a buyer
-when you need resources or to run a nasty adv for a quest whisper to all your friends, doesn't matter you never spoke before, someone will help you

buy and/or accept LS's on adv's and then go afk and make the person running the Adv wait for you, they will love you more for it, and then send a tav general rather than a fast general and if on a big map, make sure to send the tag from the landing zone rather than moving up closer because the tag will go much faster if just sent from Landing zone
