If you destroy the northmost boulder you cannot progress further, though it appears you should be able to.

Same thing happened to me. I had to take out a few camps to get to a stronghold, get a shard from the stronghold and make another dynamite. Once I took out the other, more southern boulder in that section, it worked fine.
Don't know that it's a bug, but rather it's probably a set path to the final sector and if you take out the wrong boulder, then you gotta work a little extra to get there. I know I won't be taking out that northern boulder again any time soon.
