Thanks for getting the diary out, looking forward to the event!
It's nice to see how the damage calculation actually works, but it's really unintuitive. Any chance you could throw a 'base' in the tooltips so they were more accurate? That is, "Mad Scientist increases the *base* damage of heavy units by 100%". I think that would make it much more clear that relative bonuses stack additively and don't affect additive bonuses.
Also, as a side note, if relative bonuses work this way they're mathematically identical to additive bonuses. Right now there's no difference between "Increase the maximum damage of cannoneers by 120" and "Increase the maximum damage of cannoneers by 100%". Seems a little odd.
It is great to have a lot more variety of items available for purchase in the shop.
It is disappointing to have seasonal adventures reduced in number of refills that they give.
You gave us a lot more things to buy that cost A LOT of pumpkins each, but you took away a solid way to acquire those pumpkins. Seasonal adventures used to give 3 times the loot and refills. During an event, I'm not focused on trying to get experience and level up. I have the other 9 months of the year I can do that. I want to be able to get event resources to get some great items.
getting more refills is kinda pointless because the pumpkin fields cant produce enough anyway. if you keep them producing all 28 days at +300% buff you might get enough pumps to get the new stuff. Thats about half the pumps you need if you want to take full advantage of the event.
Epic Fail.Quote:
We made a mistake - there will not be a 2x XP bonus from Seasonal Adventures and we're sorry if this raised expectations.
That was announced months ago: https://forum.thesettlersonline.net/...ight=halloween.
Fundamentally, this was false advertising. For all those who bought adventures in advance of this, or started/purchased a premium - OOPS! And, yeah, I did both of those.
Seems like less a "mistake" and more a major unannounced change. Personally, it was one of the things I was most looking forward to this event; there's not really a great reason to run extra adventures during this event, otherwise.
"We made a mistake - there will not be a 2x XP bonus from Seasonal Adventures and we're sorry if this raised expectations."
what?????? this is epic false advertising .... i spent over a month making extra troops for this .... and now you just rip it out from under us????? saved all these adv for the event...
unbelievable.
another epic fail from bb, not sure why im surprised lol
been preparing, saving troops and adventures for this occasion and now its pointless, well, theres time to fix it though
How can it possibly be fair to revoke x2 exp at the last minute? I have stocked up on the 2xp ventures and troops for nothing. Bad Bad move BB
And what would BB say if we settlers changed the rules at the last moment?
THis is unfair. You should stand behind what you promise.
This is not a 'clarification', this is a significant failure on BB's part, and outright dishonesty.
BB mislead players for a considerable amount of time, then changed course at the last minute without warning, invalidating all the preparation many players invested.
If the higher-ups at BB are wondering why TSO is losing players, maybe they should look at how their staff treats players.
Can someone tell me if the numbers on the wiki site for x2 refills is already listed at the x2 just finished VTV and only got 8 pumpkin refills? I was expecting at minimum 16?
While there is no doubt that the information posted in the sneak peek and developers diary was incorrect, that does not imply "outright dishonesty". For that to be true, it would require that the people knew the information was not correct when it was posted; our BB's have already made an mea culpa for the error.
The real question is how the effects of the information should be addressed. There appear to be two ways players used this information. First people stocked up on the adventures. As this is internal to the game and there are several methods players may have used to obtain the adventures, it would be difficult to create a reasonable compensation plan. It would be reasonable though for anyone who used gems to purchase these adventures to request that BB reverse their purchases and the gems refunded. So if there is anyone who actually did that, they should speak up (assuming they will admit it).
The second issue is those who purchased premium based on this information. This assumes that the same people were not already going to buy premium to improve their returns during the event. For comparison, BB could always look back at the last several events to see if those in question used premium to get extra event resources when more experience was not promised. Those people should be allowed to get their gems back and their premium removed.
What is most likely to happen is that everyone will get a mail package with some event-related gifts, as an apology - just as has happened with other every event. BB should really get on with that, so the players can start complaining about how insufficient the package was compared to the massive anguish they have suffered.
FYI, that wiki is not maintained by BB so questions about it are normally best asked of the site admin or in help or guild chat. That said, there is a parenthetical at the top of the adventure table "(pumpkins refillers are shown with the bonus)"...but these were also the values gleaned from test server (I assume), so if changes happened between testing and live, your results may vary.
BB is SUPPOSED to be a professional organisation. It is inconceivable that
nobody noticed the 'error' during the weeks that it was published, and I can
only suppose that this was a deliberate attempt by BB to drum up enthusiasm.
I will NOT be buying gems during this event unless the x2 XP is restored.
I am quite saddened that double XP will not be received for the seasonal adventures. I was very much looking forward to that.
I was looking for the 2x XP bonus, but I'm still going to run Wisdom anyway for the double event resources.
If BB does a hotfix and we end up getting double XP, great. If BB doesn't do a hotfix and we end up not getting double XP, great. Everything else is doubled, as it usually is, so it's really not that big a deal.
Given all the times something's been implemented and is buggy this is not some huge deviation from the norm around here. Nor is it some purposeful deception on BB's part. What would they gain from it? Seriously.
With that said:
The event overall looks really good to me. Getting double loot on ToW, which is the 2nd best loot drop in all the Ali adventures has been pretty freakin awesome so far.
The fact that we can get a Laboratory for doing the Event Quest and can get a 2nd for pumpkins is also pretty freakin' awesome! Those of us that can swing it get 2, but anybody who's paying attention and putting in a little effort is going to get at least one. This is the second event where BB has done this and I hope it continues. It's good for new players and it's good for old timers. And it's incredibly generous on BB's part.
Keep it up BB. You guys are doing a great job, mistakes and all.
Thanks BB, I stockpiled troops for 3 weeks to run Wisdom for the extra XP and stuff. Really appreciate the change!
I am curious on how this "mistake" was made. It was literally on the front page of the website. How did this mistake occur?
We are truly sorry for this and we know that this should not have happened. This WAS NOT a promised thing though and nor was it a guarantee to have happened. As many of you know the Sneak Peek is just a sneak peek as to what COULD be within the upcoming version or events. As well the Test Server goes through changes constantly and does not mean what it on it is final.
Yes we let it slip into the Dev Diary and we should not have done so. We know this is a huge fault on our end and we are currently discussing some ideas on making this up to everyone. Please be aware though that you may have to deal with some down time for a hot fix.

Thanks for doing the right thing.
Thank you for initiating the hot fix for double xp, BB. You are making lots of folks very happy!
Four hours lost from the event, unable to do adventures or send explorers = fewer pumpkins in the end. All this for the sake of xp? Not worth it to me.
Very nice.
The laboratory is nice, but why does it take so much space?
o.O
good call
i was still running wisdoms because the loot was amazing, now will be even better :)
Why is it that the wiki published for the event rewards and required resources and quests requirements shows getting the new general from a quest line and then when the event actually launches its the building that i and many in my guild dont care about. the general is far more useful and why was this left in the event guide just to be changed?
Some of the complaining was over the top, but it's nice to see the double XP as originally proposed. Wisdom was worth it either way. Normally during events, I just run Woodcutter, like I would anyway, but this is a rare case where I've found something else that's worth deviating from the norm. It's not a complete junk adventure like the ones I have 500 of but will never run, good XP to begin with, and the loot is really good.
I really really hate complaining, but the space issues with new buildings are awful, especially if you get two. Please consider the space requirements for future buildings.
Noob question and I answered it!
