Dear Settlers,

Thank you,

Thank you for upgrading the Endless Copper Mines. Much appreciated.
The Easter event seems like it is starting very late when compared to other events. Usually it is 2 weeks before the holiday and then 1 week after. Why the change? Should we expect the other events to take the same pattern?
The 15th? Way too late. I won't even be able to play much this year because of this ridiculous start time. Might as well ditch the Easter name and just call it the summer event. How about next time we skip the stupid April Fool's nonsense no one anywhere asked for, and actually do the event people were really waiting for at the time of year the holiday actually falls in? Or is common sense a bit much to ask? Might as well just skip it and start prepping for the Halloween event this December...
Yes too late. Easter is on the 21st... just 6 days in. That means that after Easter is over there remains 15 more days dedicated to a holiday that is already finished. The event should END with the holiday, not start and continue after. Do you walk around at the beginning of January wishing people a "Merry Christmas!" still? No! That **** is done on the 26th because the holiday is done.
Religious Easter may, but commercial Easter (aka Easter bunny and eggs and stuff that this event is clearly going by) does not.
Please tell me the end dates for this Easter Event.
Orthodox Easter is April 28
Event seems perfectly timed
In want to live under your rock if I may. People starting Xmas deco in novemeber and do that happy holiday crap until mid January for all I've experienced /sighQuote:

Why does it seem that everyone is in a rush to be done with something so quickly? Wouldn't you want the event to last longer so that you could get more things from it? Also I wouldn't want the event to just end the day of the holiday. Most holidays I'm spending them with family and wouldn't even worry about a game. On top of that a lot of people go out of town before/during a holiday.
I just don't get this rush to be done as soon as it is over . Enjoy the small things in life and don't rush it.

How does starting earlier make it last longer? The event, unless changed, goes for three weeks (plus the shutdown week), and given that the holiday falls inside the event as well, whether at the beginning or at the end, that also won't change the plans for that day will it? Part of the event itself is the seasonal mood. Having it out of season makes it awkward and weird. Think if we had the Christmas event in June. While the event itself would give us something to do, it wouldn't be a true Christmas event. The spirit of it, what you would call one of the 'small things in life', wouldn't be there. That seasonal mood, that spirit, is part of the event too, and it is done with the holiday. Starting this late diminishes the event, even if it is just a small thing.
And fyi, when I said it should end with the holiday, I don't mean cut short on that day specifically, but the holiday should be as close to the end as possible.
Well technically "Happy Holidays" in intended to encompass more than just Christmas. Hanukkah, New Years, Ukrainian Christmas, and so forth. Some of which actually happen in January, so you might be stuck there. Now people starting Christmas the second Halloween ends? They suck.
Ah yes. I had forgotten all about Orthodox Easter. Remind me again, was that the one where they celebrate the resurrection of Peter Cottontail and his twelve disciples - the dozen colored eggs? No?
the easter bunny died for your sins!!!!
Not sure why people need to find something to complain about but (especially the petty crap)....thank you for fixing the endless Coppermine.
You know something, it IS a petty thing. I know that's true.
The thing is, I used to love this game. When I first started playing and it was fresh and new I played it basically every spare moment I had. I remember one three day binge where I used a one day premium token and stayed up for 24 hours straight grinding exp. Then when it wore out I had a good sleep, only to wake up, pop another 1 day premium and grind for another 24 hours straight. Maybe it was tedious but that's the game. Thankfully, we had events every now and then to break up the monotony with some holiday fun. Celebrate the holiday season, have some fun, collect some cool prizes. And yeah if you wanted to work hard you could clear it in a week, but who cares? Why shouldn't I be able to enjoy the event how I like? If I am willing to put in that effort why shouldn't I get that reward?
But somewhere it started to go wrong. Someone decided that events should be more difficult and punishing instead of fun and carefree. So they lowered the event returns and increased the prices as a test, and when it was over they made a poll to see what the players thought. Unsurprisingly the majority of people hated it. But that meant little to the devs as with the next event it got worse and with the event after it got even worse still. More and more people objected that it wasn't fun anymore but the response just turned to, "You shouldn't be able to get everything!"
Why, I ask you, should we not be able to get everything? If I play for years and work to collect all the resources possible to make these events easier (more explorers and generals for faster adventuring plus skills to improve both), why should it be harder for me now than it was before? Why, because BB is a business and by making it too hard to get everything it 'encourages' players to spend money on gems to buy the items.
Now sure I understand that change from a business' perspective, but from a player's perspective it destroys both my enjoyment in the game and my trust in the game maker. These events suck now. I have to work more in the game than I have to at my real job if I want it all. Every event over the last year has left me feeling mentally drained and irritated. I usually can't even force myself to do adventures for at least a month after. Hell aside from the necessary wisdoms for a weekly, I have barely done anything since Valentine's. I am already starting to HATE this game. At this point, the only reasons I log in are habit and because I am close to 75. I am honestly sick of this.
So what does all this have to do with that 'petty crap', you might ask? It is simple. The events are already not fun anymore. They are just an carrot on a stick to make you grind harder and sell all your stuff to get those prizes just so you can feel like you didn't miss out on something that half the time doesn't even work properly anyway. The last bastion of their appeal is the holiday aspect for me. That little boost to not only the game but to the holidays themselves. It is nice to go to places and see the holiday stuff everywhere and just feel that holiday mood and come home and have your game join in on the fun as part of it all.
An event without that spirit is just a boring repetitive grind, and that is already what the non-event time is. If the events that are supposed to be our break from that become worse than that themselves, then how can it even be called a game anymore? With no fun, it just becomes work, and since I am not getting paid for this, the incentive to continue diminishes with every choice like they make.
:cavalry:Thank You Ubisoft for creating the Settlers game which has kept me busy for 7 years.:cannoneer:
Well said.
exactly. and on the same vein -- i did a people of the mountain the other day - my 1st one.. the adv was so convoluted and confusing EVEN with me checking 4 different guides. The design was near impossible to see .. at all... ( i mean i spent HOURS looking for the stupid well not realizing it was a frigging camp to kill because the quest was so vague) I cleared out all my elite troops in it .. 8 days recovery for those... lost 4 assassins, 4 arrows, 4 ballistas.... (and i can only buy 1 a day)... I walked away not wanting to touch the game for a month. I enjoy a challenge but the quests were so vague i was left with no direction.. The person(s) who designed the mountain clan should be. imho ..moved to a job that programs something like a farmlife type app.
and now...after that .. i'm actually dreading easter event... seeing how someone at level 67, and after 7 years of playing, will not get even 1/2 of the loot - never mind help out my fellow guildies which i should be able to do at my level.
I seems to me, bb wants to have us all leave by attrition rather than maybe have the game die from flash leaving... least it feels like it after valentine's and now reading on the loot drop / pricing / requirements of easter's event.
+1
I have to add I am already lvl 75, I stopped playing last year for like 6 months when BB nerfed Pathfinder rewards... came back for my friends. Now I'm tired and sick of all the crappy things they are throwing at us and I suppose I will take another break after Easter...
THEIR game, THEIR decisions, I keep telling to myself... BUT... MY time, MY choice to play it or not...
It's actually not so hard to do since the game has continued to progress and evolve over those 7 years. I've done my share of ranting, raving, & carrying on in that time, (and sometimes it was even justified :p). But overall this is the best game I've ever played. Hope it stays around for quite a while longer.
When it comes to BB “encouraging” people to spend money on gems by making events more difficult it helps to bear in mind the amount of “free” there actually is in this game. Unike some games that allow you to play up to a certain level and then require payment to advance to higher levels, a person can go from level 1 to 75 without ever spending a dime in TSO. Yes, it's harder than parting with a few bucks, but it's entirely possible and many people do play for free.
And how about these?
Q: Is it possible to obtain better Generals than Taverns without spending money?
A: Yes, if a person is patient various Generals are available from events. Also, the Major can be purchased for resources obtained during normal gameplay (free of charge).
Q: Is it possible to obtain better Explorers and Geologists than the Tavern ones without spending money?
A: Yes, Explorers & Geologists are both obtainable from various events.
Q: What about special buildings?
A: Most, if not all special buildings are introduced during events. At times BB will even make a building the reward for completing a fairly simple quest spanning the length of the event. Yes, it requires a person to log on, but doesn't require them to open their wallet.
Q: Is it possible to obtain gems without spending money?
A: Yes, a limited amount of gems are available for free. Logging on every day provides a weekly bonus of 100 gems. Every week it's possible to purchase 100 gems for 600 star coins. Several of the Excelsior quests drop 50 gems as part of a reward for completion. While it's not a huge amount, over time enough gems can be saved to make modest purchases in the shop.
I guess you must be getting my drift by now, huh?
One final thought/analogy:
TSO in its current form is like being able to walk into your local pizza parlor and getting a medium pepperoni pizza free of charge multiple times a year. If you want more toppings, or a larger size, or a combination thereof, it will cost you money. I don't see anything wrong with that.
Excellent post. I also want to mention three other ways to get gems without paying for them. At many (not all) levels you can get gems when leveling up. Also, there are many achievements that pay a reward of gems. Finally, you can buy a gem pit (for 20k gems) and get back double (40k) - and you can do this up to ten times.
By the way, there's still issues with the observatory, not totally fixed according to help chat.
@BB_Odhran
Let me point out to you this simple fact:
"All of these challenges will contain stages which ask you to accomplish things such as producing resources, completing adventures creating and applying buffs etc. What they do not contain is any luck-based tasks, such as treasure hunts; this means you can more predictably complete these challenges with some consistency, without the fear of running out of time due to bad luck."
Source:
https://forum.thesettlersonline.net/...aining-Grounds
The Task for Completing Challenges players starting at level 56:
"Complete 2 adventures “Ali Baba And The Second Thief” (From Architectural Inspiration subquest to Town Construction)
"Complete 3 adventures “Ali Baba And The First Thief” (From The Cure subquest to Epidemic)
Source:
http://settlersonlinewiki.eu/en/ques...ly-challenges/
Ali Baba, The Young Wood Cutter Adventure (available in adventure for fragments) = NOT used in any sub-quest. MUST complete to obtain First and Second Thief.
Drop Chance for Ali Baba and the Second Thief and First Thief:
http://settlersonlinewiki.eu/en/adve...g-wood-cutter/
First Thief: 16.7%
Second Thief: 16.7%
Third Thief: 16.7% (NOT used in any quest)
NOTHING: 50%
66.7% = Chance of FAILING.
I must do this (young woodcutter) multiple times to obtain first thief map (2 of them). and second thief map (3 of them).
And then I must make enough troops to actually do the maps in question for the quest. 2 or 3 of them.
So tell me exactly, how the Dev said It's predictable and no task requiring players running out of time due to fear of bad luck??
Players who JUST turned level 56. Can start to build the first building: Arquebuse Maker. Which takes at least 2 weeks to upgrade.
Which I might also add the units LOST is significantly high without Besiegers. Which we can't build.
Do you think that's reasonable to ask players to do multiple Young Woodcutters, AT least 2-3x (if you get perfect drop chances), and then (2-3x) again First Thief or Second Thief. ??? And if your map doesn't drop at all. You're out of luck.
Maybe the level bracket for the woodcutter series should be delayed/changed to players reaching level 58.
Observatory still not working properly after last nights update - Glitched with QMs still.
This affects all generals that think they are commanding troops brought to the adventure by the QM
solution - Dont use QMs at all for troop transport, or dont use observatory, or just give up
I wish they would fix the existing content instead of adding new content
Gotta read the fine print. More... a vague descriptor that is subjective, not fact.
It is technically 'more' predictable than if they had also included treasure hunts.
I do agree with most everyone's posts here. Bottom line the Weekly challenge is not fun, not worth my resources, and I just let them fail. I wish I could get rid of the the quest failed bouncing arrow, that's is a nasty virus that I hate having to cure every week.
I've been having problems loading the game since the update. This morning (Tues) it took at least twice as long as usual from clicking "Play Now" to when the island appears. This evening, I'm at a good 10 minutes of "loading", which is at least 5x as long as normal, and it's still not done as of this writing. It's not my router, as other webpages load fine.
Update: I closed and reopened my Chrome browser, which then forced me to re-allow Flash to run. Game loading time was quite a bit better. We'll see if this lasts. :)
The update log fails to mention that the Spring Park was updated with a new buff: Children's Easter Novels.
took 20 min to load the game today and i had to do a refresh. crazy
Since the update the game takes FOREVER to load. It stalls half way on the second load screen and sits there for like half an hour, sometimes doesn't load at all. Sometimes it "only" takes about 10 minutes
Not a local net issue, as everything else works fine, even other flash games and yes flash player is up to date. Something is wrong with some aspect.
Easter event is gonna be a washout if the game won't load.
We are currently looking into these lag issues. Thank you for reporting them.
-BB_Odhran
+1 2nd day loading issues -- loads in the at screen 1/2 and gets stuck = have to refresh to get it to complete loading (the screen with the image and the progress bar)
I started to think that BB is just checking statistics to learn which adv we like less and hate to run, and, instead of trying to improve it or at least make it more attractive they add the said adv to quests or make it seasonal on events to improve their statistics... and of course they call this a 'challenge'.
