Gee, what summer event? I haven't even been able to access the game in over a month or more!
Printable View
The good:
1. Triple xp and double loot for all adventures and ventures. Although I don't need xp anymore this event was a good opportunity for guildies to lvl up, some reached lvl 70 and got the pathfinder which will make things more interesting for all of us. Double loot from adv and ventures was a nice thing too, I ran some MCC and got yet another meadhall (and more duplicates, of course).
The bad:
1. Premium Friend Buff was bugged, and BB was aware of it before the event but did nothing to fix it or even warn players. The support answer was 'we know about it, sorry' which is not at all pleasant. The bugs were/are very annoying, explorers in a loop, all island freezing each time an item was produced ever and ever again on PH/RPH/both Barracks. Even the production was bugged, the bonus was not counting for production quests. A guildie was stuck with all quests green and no way to complete it until we figured it out and used a love crazed to increase his production even more.
I really wish BB to run Storm Recovery with its failing conditions with PFB active... or producing MCC buff. No way to even learn WHEN they are done for real and do something else then wait in front of the computer and visit the adv map over and over again, every time when coming back home getting the freeze and the items showing up on PH... extremely annoying
2. Same for the new explorers, BB knew it doesn't come back with 50% more loot as it should.
3. The Storage Tower bug- it is a 1x1 building but it acts like a 2x2 building when it's about flags/time production. Same for this, ppl noticed it on test server, nothing was done.
4. The prices for event items were extremely high. I understood BB policy 'you don't have to buy all' and 'you have to choose' but this time was way over the 'normal'. Even a crazy hardcore player like me couldn't buy everything with what we were getting from explorers and adv/ventures loot. Demoralizing and frustrating.
I did buy all I wanted, tho, doing a lot of trades... And the double loot was aiding, helping me to get enough resources to sell... This was the first event where I had to buy event resources to buy the things from merchant. Usually I just run a lot of adventures and I use trade only for some extra- for our guild games prizes or to help someone. I guess it was ok, but something was missing... the 'good job' feeling.
Overall was just another event. I really hope we will get a break, I am looking forward for all months without events until Halloween.
My guidies are tired and burned out, some told me they will try to login daily for the bonus, but nothing more for a month.. even the daily login sounds like a chore for them now. Please, BB find a balance, else you will lose yet another bunch of players. And fix the darn bugs....
Like the triple xp. Agree with most of what ghannima says above. Kind of burned out myself.
agree with ghannima.. i'm completely burnt out. i spent nearly a million coin in t.o and still didn't get all of my list.. costs were just too high.
Pros:
-Triple XP/Loot on some adv's. Would love to see more of that in future events
-Loved clicking on a soccer ball collie & sometimes getting 2 instead of just 1
-Loving the tribute buildings. Hope to see more of them. Such as a Bakery, watermill etc to help make more ambiance for different places on our islands, such as in clusters of pop buildings. And specifically would like ways to get more friary tributes as I use them as little pubs within my clusters of pop buildings
-Loved that I could spend gems & I'd get more event currency then I'd have to give in gems. I spent more $$ on gems because of this
Cons:
-Nice stuff in merchant. But agree with many others, a lot of it was way too expensive given the ball payouts between adv's & expos.
-Didn't like that 1k balls was an upgrade requirement for one of the pop buildings. I opted NOT to buy it as a result.
-MUST either be Premium AND adventuring very heavily OR buying event currency in order to afford more then a few things from merchant. A person who is not on premium & not buying event currency with gems is pretty much forced to run adventures from sun up to sun down just to get any decent amount of event resources given the high cost of a lot of the items in the event shop
-Found the game froze/hung/lagged a LOT when we'd finish something. Like something comes off the barracks or PH/RPH, a building completes it's build etc
-Horrible event for new/newer players. They'd see the cost of the event shop items & see the ball payouts on Adventures as well as the small amount of explorers they had & would likely be discouraged. It was very hard to accumulate enough event currency to be able to afford more then a couple of the overpriced event items. Most new/newer players would only be able to get a couple items.
-Still no Canadian flag in the shop. Major disappointment on that
Event suggestions:
-At start of any event, give everyone a 3 day premi pill, 1 Pralines & 1 rec guide for people to use during the event to help with adventuring & such. I esp recommend this if you are going to make event shop items as expensive as many were this event
-When requiring adventuring to acquire event currency/event currency fill, always have at least one 1 player, one 2 player, one 3 player & one co-op as a Triple xp/loot (when triple is offered). And the same for double xp/loot. It will encourage more co-operation & interaction amongst friends & guildmates
-Have higher event resource payouts on adventures if you are gonna make event merchant stuff so expensive or lower the cost of event merchant items
-Give us a way that we can convert excess soccer match collie items into soccer balls. Such as adding a tab to the Mayor where we can cook 100 soccer collies & get back 10 soccer balls for example. Many of us had a massive excess of these resources
-Buildings like the snack maker, please change those. Change it to where you buy the first one. Then instead of having to buy more of the building, make it where we can buy blue prints to upgrade it instead. Just make the blue prints the same cost to buy as the building. Many of my longtimer guildies are getting tired of having to find space to add all these "need more of them to get faster output/cool down" buildings.
This bit needs to be printed out and taped to every monitor at the TSO team.
It seems the TSO team simply doesn't get that they've gone too far.
Now maybe the European players (who have supposedly always been the real money makers for BB) are all happy as pigs in mud, but over here we're more than a little frustrated that this game we've been playing for years (over five in my case) has suddenly turned into 'pay to play'...on top of getting buggy as all heck, and then to top it off it penalises us by not letting us login during events that pretty much *require* near 24/7 play to get any sort of decent returns.
I knew Summer was going to be a bit of a grind, so I lined up Prem, the Prem FRBuff, got ready to drop $100 on the big Gem pack...and then I couldn't even log in.
Quite aside the loss of all the buffs and Prem I had running while I couldn't log on, I had the 30 L6 Adv/Exp/Elite buildings in my Christmas Market all running un-Buffed for all that time. Just the lost Coin was over 200k. Lost Gunpowder over 20k. Lost over two dozen Tomes/Codexes not getting made because we can't Stack in the Bookbinder. Lost the last three 'Special' doors because I couldn't log in to open them, and couldn't catch up without burning hundreds of Gems...for something that was entirely at BB's doorstep from the beginning.
BB's response?
"Gee, that sucks. We hope you keep playing!"
I used to pony up for the big Gem pack every Christmas, because I figured that was fair. I have fun, so I'll pay to keep the server hamsters fed. Now I'm looking at spending the time I used to spend on TSO out playing Harry Potter games with my kid.
It's a shame for BB though, because I work from home as a writer so I'm online most of the day anyways, and I've been a Guild Officer with ELY for years now, helping out the new players, boosting them up with resources and semi-regular 'Tips and Tricks' emails to help them with Events and stuff.
But when people like me stop playing...it makes is a lot harder for other players to want to keep going.
But then there's that BB response...
"Gee, that sucks. We hope you keep playing!"
there are a few things i like to say. first off: next time make the balls/presewnts/whatever currency event merhcants have UNTRADABLE i have to say this every event.. people scam the hell out of it on trade office so why make the items treadable if its the only thing then being trade for rediculous prices? you can also make the balls tradeable after the veent period is over and people can sell the balls then on trade office so that atleast people dont putoffers for event currency only( which i always see in events )
also will we get a event thats isnt about fighting ? i had problems doing both the 25 mini quests for achievement and tribute and getting decent balls from other adventures
tough on the other hand i do like the 1x adventurous explorer i got. 300% speed and then even more so when skilled up properly
there is one thuing that annoys me though is the way bugfixes are handled in events. i get the feeling the fixes unfix more then they fix actual problem .. this is getting to be a trend in events as well
I did what adventures I could, all explorers were only doing treasure searches to bring back balls. I have an actual job I have to do a commute for, plus the time at the job.. I was only able to get the 3 Explorers and have a few hundred balls leftover at the end.. Was not able to get half of what I wanted from the event.
It seems to be BB wanted people to spend a lot of $$ to buy gems, and spend those gems buying balls to then spend balls on the items they wanted. There were 3 or 4 100% gem sales during the event. And I've noticed that BB has been doing a lot more 100% gem sales this year. It seems like a massive cash grab to me.
All in all, very disappointing and depressing.
During the summer, people are away on vacation, children are home from school, and people, in general, don't have enough time to spend hours on the game. I have one guildmate that went up 5 levels due to the increased xp, others that weren't able to complete the 25 minis. I used to have the resources to buy a lot of gems, shoot, I'm still on premium time I bought 3 years ago, but now the economy has turned and I can't afford to buy any. It would be great to have an event where nothing was available for gems.
Agree with ghannima, and other post sentiments.
The triple XP was a good idea, also including ventures in the event adventures list was a welcome addition.
BUT, BB still hasn't fixed observatory, from ... how long ago was that now? The Prem Friend Buff was sort of good, but so unclear with what would or wouldn't work. It messed up the PH and RPH times so much also, that made it hard to run anything like Storm recovery or anything that requires the use of a PH.
Prices of event items are extortionate. The game has sadly changed to a pay-to-play model which takes a lot of the excitement from the game. While I have been here for a number of years and explorers did a lot of the work for me, I would hate to think of what the experience is like for a newer player.
I did not get many of the things that I would have normally aimed to get, the perceived effort involved made the goal too far off. Instead of the events being an opportunity to gain special buildings etc, the only thing I did really was enjoyed some of the extra XP, but didn't really even push with that too much.
Feeling burned out from the effort that this game wants to demand now, started to look around for something fun to replace TSO.
I wish events were fun like they used to be instead of a grind like now.
I agree with others. There needs to be more events where adventuring isn't the focus. Events like this one I can only imagine how new/newer players felt. Chances are they only had a few explorers. And very few gens. And the high cost of most stuff in the event merchant would make it very discouraging for new players.
Over the years in our guild, many who had been playing a long time would have been able to get what they really wanted & then we'd pitch into the "guild bank" to make a pool of event currency to help the new players get the important items like gens/geos/expos & stuff like coal recyclers, RPH etc. The past few events have seen it where we are lucky if there is much to spread around to help the new players. Seems the game has gone to where you either have to "grind, grind, grind" or you have to pay. And sadly if events keep going the way they are, TSO is going to start loosing a lot of players.
I know it's becoming pay to win when I used to see one, maybe two % sales during an event. This time there was three to four during the event with two in less then a week. Instead of pushing several 100% sales in our face. Why not offer a 200% sale for a change? You all had done it a few times before on Anno Online. No reason you can't do that here. Might entice more people to drop some $$ on the game. Those 125% ones are nice. But very limited (can only buy one of each & only 2 of the tiers available for those)
loved the 3x XP but ball drops horriable
It is true that even without gems, one could get a lot of balls through trade. However, this means that many players gave up on getting the high-end rewards or they bought gems. Both situations are bad in the long run:
1) In TSO, rewards earned from past events are essential if one wants to be able to do well in future events. If newer players can't enjoy their first events, they will quickly become frustrated and quit because their only option is to sell their event resources to 'rich' players.
2) I would believe that most of the revenues are generated by a minority of compulsive consumers. This model can work very well in a market where the competition is high and a social status is attributed. However, there is no champion of TSO, no competition outcome (RIP PvP). While some players can spend thousands on their island, the 'poor' players simply have no extra motivation to keep playing. In other games, new and free players will grind all day, because even the underdog can win it all.
Finally, this summer was the Women's World Cup. BB made absolutely zero effort to adapt the content of the event (specialists, flags, missions, quests, etc.). Soccer is possibly 8th or 9th sport in the US, behind college leagues, golf, Nascar, and maybe even pro Wrestling. That's almost as good as Valentine's day in March.
I earned Balls so I could give them away to others, so they could get something they wanted to buy with them.
I think the event went well BB_Odhran.:cavalry:
:)
Now that the summer event is over, a few things I want to comment on. The triple EXP and chance of double loot on all advs was nice, but with the pricing in footballs of a lot of event items, it should have been ALL double loot. I liked the mini missions achievement, it was a nice switch from having to do the same 1 or 2 adventures ad nauseum. the prices of the event merch were by far way too unreasonable. BB hit it perfectly a few years ago, when those who aren't able to be everyday players, but could do adventuring and trading, get about half of the event items, if they did some adventuring and trading. Now, it seems you must adventure 16 hours a day, every day, on top of being very aggressive trading to getting about 3/4 (maybe more, depending on how dedicated you are) to getting the very over priced items. I lost about half the event due to unforeseen loss of the internet, and had to do a lot of adventuring and super heavy trading to get some of the items at the top of my list. I realize that the goal is to make people buy gems for the event currency, but to be honest, by making things so overpriced, and NOT increasing the treasure loot or adventure loot, is simply turning a lot of people off the game. I think that this was one of the least played events of my guild, and my personal belief is that it's because events are happening so often, and are so out of reach for a lot of my guildies. Just my observation, if you made events to where with some trading and adventuring, you could get half of the event items, then with gems/heavy adventuring and trading, you could get all of them, BB might see an increase in players.
the event was not all that bad.Like the x3 xp and the x2 loot. One major issue was adventures they did not drop enough balls for the work. 2nd major issue with summer resident house you needed balls 1k to do a lvl and thats not fair. these items should never use event items to upgrade
I ended up spending gems to get things sure bb likes that and it was alright lots of good item to get this event. so work on better drops on those adventures next event and thanks for fixing loading problem that ran 6 days into event
Pittness
Sadly, those soccer ball numbers were double loot. Didn't seem like it. I liked the beans, though.
I give it four balls out of ten.
Things are overpriced and poorly implemented. Language/translation issues to some degree, but there is just no excuse for some of the bugs that plague the game for years n' years. Not to mention the lag and the game going down for hours at a time. Just... frustrating. The game going down like that cost me the weekly log-in bonus (fine, whatever, it happens) but it also put me behind the curve for event collectibles, so I failed to get the last achievement by 12. Frustrating.
Another gripe was all the explorers sent out before the event ended who turned up with no soccer balls. And how about all the stupid bits and buffs cluttering up the menu from events past? Red cards, Cuddle bears, Pony rides, Truce offers and Golem waters/Marbles, etc. When you deactivate an event, hide the junk. Or have a filter toggle to "Show inactive items". Don't have highly variable buffs show up as the first item on the buff menu. When another free Premium day showed up, I didn't notice and dropped an oodle of Fish Steaks instead of Sammies because they had been bumped over one space and the picture only peeks out on the default menu.
However the Flashplayer issues, hotkey inconsistencies, lag, etc... It's these things, these "quality of life" issues that have not been remedied since the server launched. These are the reasons I stopped buying gems. You've jacked up the prices, given terrible and misleading descriptions on purchase items, and are requiring insane amounts of real world time. Who the heck ENJOYS endless, mindless grinding? That's not how you change my mind and win me back.
Unfortunately, that mechanic seems deliberate. Fill up your space so you'll have to buy the new islands. I like the archipelago, but I've yet to touch the rest. Every other building can be unlocked or upgraded, but these buildings just take up space and get tucked in a corner as far out of the way as possible. Since they share a cooldown, any more than one is otherwise useless. The only one I could see being useful is the Christmas market. With 4 of them, you could have two sets of market areas running on alternate times.
Thank you for your Feedback regarding this event. I have made sure to pass this information on to our team.
