Is the unity engine going to be 64 bit only? I know unity can be compiled in 32 bit versions. My old laptop I sometimes use to play is 32, old travel movie and game machine.
1st thoughts.
So far in every instance of you providing a dl solution has completely ignored your mac customers. So.. will this be mac compliant? cause frankly most of us are not buying a pc .. nor running a virtual pc .. just to play a game.
So much for the 'seamless' move you were talking about.
Have you checked out Steam version? Based on that, it looks like there is OS X client - https://store.steampowered.com/app/3...ttlers_Online/
alot of players have trouble getting the DL version to work. i have tried and tried to get the DL version to work but all it says is that i dont have flash player, no matter what i do
Will it run under Linux?
I play via Kongregate, so that means I don't have a username/password to log in using another method. I anticipate that this will become a problem.
Also echoing the "Will it run under Linux?" question.
I looked around a bit, and it looks like Firefox 84 will not support Flash anymore (probably not support any NPAPI plugins anymore), so i doubt a browser extension will be able to restore the ability to run Flash on selected sites.
How will this new client work if you use a Facebook login? What if you have separate accounts on more than 1 server?
I also play via Kongregate, so I am in the same boat and have similar questions regarding future login as in Jernau's post above. Will Kongreate users be able to transition their current accounts in early 2021 as well?
Thanks for the heads up!
I only ask that you remember some of us are older and only play casually and may not be tech-savvy so we'll need some simple step-by-step switch-over instructions for all platforms (Windows, MAC, Edge users, Chrome users, Linux users, Safari, Firefox, Steam, etc). Links, Screenshots & videos would also be welcome.
If you want miracles, might I ask you to pray for them. God always answers mine. Thousands of dev team hours are included in this transfer to a platform they never new they had to do. It was the company Adobe, at which will end their product flash. Leaving tens of thousands of gaming companies as well as others holding the bag.
Surely you can forgive the settlers online for this, they had no control of.
Blessings :LMM
Some of us will follow along to the unity even after the game is idled in the month or so of the transfer, BB_Trafffer.
BUT, just as long as you finally get rid of the freezing serious issue?
Thank you.
We'll see you on the other side at unity at the correct time.

quick question, will we need to pay for a Unity subscription to play? Unity is a subscription service
i can see all sorts of issues with this...what, I want to know is, Will, I loose what, I have spent close to 8 years building or will, I start over new or will parts of it be missing or will EVERYTHING be transplanted to the new format? I'll be honest. if we loose chunks of what we built or start from scratch, I'm done.
I have sent in multiple support tickets asking how I can switch my login from my facebook account to the main login ability and have never once received even a jint of a response to the inquiry. Will this new platform allow the ability to log in using facebook? I have tried the downloaded version of TSO and have never been able to actually log into the game or anything even close to it, unless somehow I downloaded the wrong program or something, I don't see how the dowloaded version is considered a solution in any way, even a temporary one.
I've used the slim browser before. Seems serviceable. Doesn't actually work and hasn't for months, though, possibly as a result of the new login system. I just get a grey box at login and can't continue.
will the new temporary flash and eventual unity be friendly for those of us on Steam and Kongragate...just a curiosty
Not so much:
From Steam:
"Notice: This product is not compatible with macOS 10.15 Catalina. Click here for more information."
Thus, after three years of waiting, we're *still* waiting for actual answers about transitioning (eventually, some time next year) to the new system...after we transition to the temporary system, and *then* to the new system.
No word on any support for anyone beyond the Windows crowd. No word on what's going to happen when either of the transition steps cause people to lose access to their Island and have to restart (which happens too often as it is :/ ).
That means still not spending any money on anything until we have useful answers and a better plan. :/
Except that BB has had MONTHS to make this change. The end of life for Flash was announced a LONG time ago, giving everyone plenty of time to prepare for this. That the devs have waited until 90 days or so before the end of flash support before finally figuring out and announcing what platform they are moving to doesn't say a lot to me about how excited they are to continue this game. I'm sorry, very pessimistic about this whole thing. The move to Unity will not be quick or easy so unless they've been working on it for the past year (which it seems they have not), then I would not anticipate them making it work in Unity for at least another 6 months from now. Hopefully I'm wrong, but not holding my breath.
Thanks for the updates . My sons uses Unity as game building engine :) Forward and Conquer!! Look forward to more years of Settlers Online .
Looking at the steam link - I guess no Linux support :(
Unity through the browser is compiled bit agnostic. It depends on the browser, not the engine. However, if they build a standalone version of the interface, like Settlers games, then that would be compiled in 32 or 64 bit. I would guess they would gear towards 64bit first, as that's the majority of systems and runs the fastest/smoothest/less-memory overhead.
If you download and install a current, or older copy, of Chrome/FireFox, and install it in a separate folder, you could still be able to run the flash version. Just make sure to turn off any sort of updating services for that install.
Doing this would allow for a "seamless" experience, at least up until the Unity version goes live.
Switchover will be seamless once Unity goes live. It's a web interface, not a whole new install. So from a user perspective, the login experience should be the same, or similar. Just faster and a bit more robust, and far more stable ;)
The new players on the field of ability to play on, will be Android and iOS. So we should be able to play on our mobiles almost as easily as we would on the computer.
Unity subscription is only for developers, not players. And not all tiers of Unity are paid. I have a free subscription to Unity, for instance. But that means any multi-player games I'd develop would be limited to 20 players, I think. Which is fine for testing purposes.
I think that means even the island will be left alone. The transition is just an Interface. All the data is stored in a separate database that they are just reading from.Quote:
We also know that a lot of you will have questions right now and we want to answer a few important ones immediately. You will be able to continue playing on your current island and you will keep all your possessions!
Login ability through Facebook or Ubisoft is just a cookie, basically. The Unity version is just an Interface. Remember, they changed the login procedure a bit "for" this change. So there is little reason/doubt to think that they current logins won't work as they currently do.
No, I just know how the software works. I wouldn't use their slim client if it was the last thing available. I'm not saying the interface will work 100% w/o issues. It doesn't now and they aren't going to fix current issues. So "seamless" is a vague term here. That's why it's in quotes ;)
will we have to download any software to bridge the first three months of the new year and will the unity run 32 bit ok as the laptop and desktops i have are only 32 bit
regards slapking
Thank you Korishan for all the info. I read an article from 2018 about Unity in a PC Magazine and between that and your insights, it sounds like a pretty good basis for playing well into the future.
As far as BB waiting for the last minute....... I don't think we're a big money maker for them. Anytime something new comes out that cost gems there's all the accompanying wailing and gnashing of teeth because, well.... this is a free game man and we should be able to get it without having to pay man! So.... looks like you get what you pay for, huh?
