I think the something went wrong error is what it says. Something went wrong. Guess what it is.
This part applies to me. I've gotten it multiple times. I'm not actually having any problems. I just get it sometimes when I close the game.

A Linux users perspective.
At first, I was disheartened, but after some thought I realised that windows does not care if you activate it, it will display the watermark, and nag, and not allow desktop customisations.. I can live with that.
I downloaded the latest windows 2020 home, 5.8 gigabytes later I had an ISO. From that I made a virtual machine using virt-manager, giving the minimum requirements of 4G ram, 2 cores and 40G disk. Installed windows to the VM, turning off all the helpful things. It wanted a microsoft account, which I had. After the install was complete, I disconnected the microsoft account by making a local account login. Using edge, I went to the TSO site, and logged in with my uplay account, which took me to the play button and the download button. I downloaded and installed the app, not changing any settings. When it was done, I had to go back to the browser and press the play button, which then launched the client.
So, with that working, I cloned the VM and now can run 2 on separate servers.
Well from what I see nobody else has the issue I have, so I can't see THAT being a priority fix. Just BTW, the issue here is that as soon as I try to launch the client or even open the directory where it's installed, the computer crashes with UNEXPECTED KERNEL MODE TRAP. I can't find any reason for that, and I've run a memory test and tried removing the client and re-installing on a different physical drive, with identical results, so reasonably sure it's not hardware issues - especially as nothing else is crashing like that.
If I find something else I want to play instead, your loss BB - you could, and should, have addressed this issue 6 months earlier like 'most every other flash-based game did; they converted to other platforms, mostly HTML5.
....aaand it works! Turns out it was some clash with my former AV software (which should definitely not cause that kind of failure, especially with no warning) - but hey. As it happened, my AV software has been "end-of-lifed" by $BIGCORP that took over the developer company a few years back, so I had to remove it anyway. And then the game client will work.
Did you ever get a fix for this? I've been trying for a couple of days and that's the only message I ever get also. Your client could not be updated! Sheesh. How wonderful. Just when I actually have time to play and I can't get on! Not happy

ok.. new bug with the client (well i just discovered it)
got the xmas quest for making gold bars.. soo i figured i'd make sure the gold chain was buffed
while checkin eco .. i saw that the golden coinage tribute showed unbuffed.. so i clicked it to see.. nope its super glowing... but click it IT doesn't show the buff either.. so nothing shows that its taken and using the buff.. so the buff is wasted

new one... i was playin. no real issues.. opened xmas spirit adv (2nd one i had).. variant b. ok.. went to visit.. client window closed itself.
restarted - played the adv, deleted a few res, and a re-built some.. it stole 169 live peoples (over all pop is fine.. )... and then i clicked ok on gq.. poof client closed itself again.. nice
client hangs today when loading.. replaced the client.swf file ... same thing
Client crashed twice today - once when i went to click ok on guild quest.. poof window closed... then when i went to go to adv - xmas spirit .. poof window closed.
So even with a new client, you are still unable to start and end an adventure or quest without a reboot....
Depends on how long you take to finish an adventure and how long the game has been open. Almost all the problems happening in game are preventable if you log off and back on every few hours I find. There is a memory leak happening and after awhile what you are doing, i.e. moving generals, applying buffs, etc seems to disappear.
I have been doing 6 adventures a day with this new client and I don't run into problems IF I restart the game before I do a series of them.
It was working for me for 3 days. Now it won't load up. No error messages or anything.
As a new player I am very frustrated with this new client. I am well aware that any change is not easy but this is ridiculous. Uninstall & reinstall all day long and still no success. Logging a ticket with support is useless as all you get is the auto-reply and nothing else.

Also of note, if you can't get back into the game after having it open, then open your Task Manager and end the "The Settlers Online.exe" process. I've noticed that most times when I close the game, it does not end the process automatically.
Yup. It appears that BB basically shut out any non Windows 10 64 bit Windows users, Mac users, Linux users, Steam users, Kongregate users......
And decided to drop the forced download a few days before an event KNOWING a large segment of the players won't be able to play. Honestly don't understand how they can be ok with doing that to so many players right before an event. My brother is on Steam and has like 75 explorers. He can't get on. And no answer to support tickets beyond the generic "we got your ticket" stuff. And I can pretty much guarantee that BB won't give him one to two weeks or more worth of event currency from 75 expos either (he has approx 75 expos). Needless to say my brother is not happy. Esp since he's probably spent over 1k on gems over the years
Then they should NOT have FORCED the download just days before the event & about a week before Xmas if they knew they wouldn't be around. They should have either held off or released it about 2 weeks sooner so that they'd have a couple weeks to at least help resolve some people getting into the game.

A lot of people went to some effort in order to play, i.e. set up bootcamp on macs, set up virtual machines on linux. Heck if I was in the situation with using an outdated system I would have just gone and bought a laptop that could play the game for a few hundred dollars if I couldn't afford better. If it wasn't this it would be something else that would be causing issues with that kind of system.
I mostly just meant pause the event (not start it just yet) when over that weekend they saw how many were having issues getting into the game. Obviously since then, some were able to find ways to play. However there are still a LOT that can't. At least several in my guild afaik
As I see it, it's unfair no matter how one slices it. It is unfair to those that can get in, to see the event paused & not be able to play it for a couple weeks or so. But at the same time, unfair to those that can't get in that they miss the event in part or whole because of BB decision to force the client download 3 days before an event. For example, my brother can't play cause he's on Steam & is waiting on BB to unlink his acc from Steam. He has about 75 explorers. And I can almost guarantee that BB isn't gonna offer X number of days worth of event currency for 75 expos. Plus event resources for missed Advent doors, Scenarios etc. However if BB was actually gonna compensate those players appropriately, then I'd have no issues with the event running as normal. I myself am able to play, so it doesn't affect me.
I think they need to do a special make up event for this and for Valentine's when all is said and done. For those who already got everything, great, but for those who missed out, they can have a shot at it. I'd be surprised if the vast majority of people aren't able to play at least some, but no doubt there is a good chunk of players who can't play or whose playtime is being restricted due to operating system or other technical issues.
If your brother had been paying attention though, he would have been unlinked from steam on time. There was a forum post notifying how to migrate from facebook and steam in preparation for this on Dec 11th.
They already stated on the german forum that they are considering extending the event or having a second phase. There would be no compensation you could give players that would be 'fair' to everyone.
So do I understand that you did put a new client downloadable file, hopefully with ALL the files needed included? If you did, it still doesn't work for me. Will all my island resources AND especially all my gems still be there whenever this UNITY thing is ready? And will I be able to point, install and play on my Windows 10 64 bit? Because I just tried again to download client and launch from the window and same stupid error message as Tarzustto did and I have all leventy-leven times I have tried. I am not tech savvy enough to do workarounds. Do you only want people who understand computers to play, BBs? Not nice.
Out of curiosity, once the game moves to Unity, will those on mobile be able to play?
For example, before the forced download, I was able to access my game via Puffin Browser (it had flash built in). And was able to play that way when I was either too lazy to go on my laptop or if I was travelling & not taking my laptop with me. So I'm just wondering if I'll be able to access my game via my phone once we move over to Unity

ok latest bug.. replicated many times.. sound disappears after 20 min or so.. i checked sound is on and working.. (course i cant test another tab in your 'browser'). made sure system sound is fine.. but poof.. sound is gone.. (made sure it wasnt muted or turned down in game.. it just goes for ding ding... then 20 min later nada). reloading fixes but that takes soo long.
correction - i timed it today.. sound lasts 6 minutes.. then nothing. i have reloaded.. and them marked the time while collecting collies.. and at 6 min they stopped any noises. nor did dusting make a jingle etc.. frustrating.. as i cant hear for intercepts or explorers.
First, I imagine a LOT of people quit over this. I doubt many of the people that can't get in now is going to wait for the fix for them, especially considering they'll miss the entire Christmas event. They was really no excuse for this considering there were YEARS of warning that Flash was going bye-bye.
Second, ever since I've DLed this I've had my computer crash while playing like 4 times. I never had that problem before.

still have several guildies locked out - mac, steam, facebook.. client doesnt work... etc... steam and fb - no answer to support request going back to before dec 11.. and my fav.. support answer in full german.. to an english email.... ... just crazy.. they've missed the entire event and cant even get in in time for use to gift them presents.
I am a mac user. How will I know when I can play the game again?
I left the game open all night and most of today like I normally do at event end and was experiencing almost constant freezing - when I finally relogged I checked task manager and the game had been taking over 12gb of memory and pushing my memory usage into the red.
I have a question about ticket service. In Anno online they actually ended up not providing ticket service to people who played the game totally for free.
I never had any big problem with service when I had problems with my facebook switching when I made a ticket on Dec 11 but I buy gems almost every year. I actually don't have a problem with tiered service myself but I am wondering if that is what is happening because I know some of the people who are still not in the game have never bought gems.
