You need more sword than bows because if you attack right your bowmen won't die, but you'll always need to replace recruits

Be patient with your military units. It is better to wait for a larger force to avoid casualties that you will have to retrain later.

Use upgrades to free up building licenses and when you hit level 17 don’t instantly start tearing down your info structure to move to hardwood and marble. Keep it in place a good foundation is still required in the upper levels.

50x Bronze Swords are a common reward from bandit camps. So sword production can be slightly behind the equitable beer production.

I'm new here, but I would suggest you find a friend and agree to use your fish plate buffs on one another, that way you can both receive longer lasting buffs.
Make sure you somewhat trust that person, and each of you should ask which buildings you want buffed.

Transfer your Garrison to another location to get a better path to the bandit camps. This camp help you avoid passing through other bandit camps and having them attack also.

Since I've seen this being asked several times in the last day or so:

Keep the coins you earn early on, it'll be useful for upgrading advanced buildings once you reach level 17!
When life gives you lemons? Don't make lemonade! Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don't want your **** lemons! What am I supposed to do with these!
On hiatus from the game currently.

Don't upgrade many of your residences. At level 19 you can tear them down and build noble residences which hold 30 when erected and can be upgraded to hold 50. They are MUCH more cost effective than building the basic residence and upgrading them. This will save tons of Building licensees in the long term, but may make level 18 a bit of a stretch on population.

Pro Tip: Don't go on a building frenzy right from the start during the tutorial UNLESS you already know how to play. If you do this, you could end up doing more harm than good and potentially set yourself back a couple of days while waiting for resources to rebuild.
