Thread: [UBI] What do you think of the leveling speed?

I feel like the developers aren't taking enough cues from the Settlers series when trying to craft the experience. Haven't played any Settlers before 7 so I can't speak on those, but I know 7 well. I know Castle Empire is a dramatically different game from S7 not only because it's played in a different way but because it ties your hands as well. You pursued knowledge, finance, or war in S7 while in Castle empire you only act in the spirit of belligerence. The economy exists to fuel your military- you can't "win" at this point with wealth alone. You take sectors in order to increase your economy, but you increase your economy only to increase your military strength.

The point? The task of leveling is resting on the weak shoulders of a very simply war game. Xp could be awarded by researching technologies in such a system, or amassing an amount of materials/erecting certain buildings (perhaps within a time limit). It'll give us something to worry about other than a bunch of hungry thugs who aren't even on the defensive.

But I get that this is a beta. I know, or at least I hope, the fight isn't the be-all end-all to this game. Just my 3 cents.

As for leveling speed, i think it gets a bit too slow at lvl 16 due to resource needs of armies and all (late game those resource needs might not be much of a problem).

As for how to fix it, i would suggest either a slight increase to experience gained from killing bandits, giving experience from other activities (maybe from treasure hunts, like 10 to 20 exp per quick hunt or something like that), or reducing the build costs of recruits and bowman (ie fewer bronze swords or bows).
Quoted.And.....if the reason behind this slow speed.....explain it to us. I'm sure it's important to keep the game competitive even for players that are new to the game....but this game is a sruggle at times....

Hey guys. Thank you for your feedback. I think that the game definitely slows down around 16-18. I agree that it does get rough, simply because if you take a day to build an army, and you're defeated. You're essentially losing 24 hours of work.

This is an issue we're talking about internally about potential resolutions.

Keep the suggestions and thoughts coming. I can't promise immediate fixes but we're definitely listening.

I am at level 18. There is a lot of parameters to manage and optimize. I think either reducing some of the costs or increasing the rate of production would provide a better resource management potential which will increase user satisfaction and keep the frustration level lower. It would be really nice if two or three production goals could be simultaneously managed without the high tradeoff costs.

It is a good game but a bit slow. I am not sure what the overall objective is other than just progress. What extraordinary experiences will we be able to have as we get closer to the highest levels?

My biggest fear would be that the pace is increased too much and it becomes easy to reach the high levels.

I mean, what kind of RTS do we want this to be?
    - Fast paced (couple weeks to a month)
    - Medium paced (couple of months)
    - Slow paced (a year)

The faster the pace of the game, the more often you have to log into the game to make sure everything is going according to planned.

Would it be possible to have servers with different paces? That would be really interesting.

I am currently at level 18 and I agree that it takes a long time the higher you go up in level, but I think thats the way it should be and many similar games do that in the same fashion. The #1 thing I would change with leveling however is making the experience bar more detailed(and how much is needed, not current experience) and having more options to gain experience other than just attacking bandit camps.

level 16, has went fairly fast, could do with quicker resorce gathering, and troop recovery time, this slows everything down and leaves the player wanting something to do, sit there and try to figure out what to do or go away, to maybe come back later. The suggestion of smaller side quest would suit to give a player something to do during the long building and recovery times.

Leveling seems ok enough. I do not think leveling is so much the issue as combat just needs improved and allow us the chance to reduce creation time on troops needed.

Level 16 right now taking a long time to reach 17 building armys takes awhile and can be long process to replace after battles. But still a very good game IMO

Excellent point made about pace of game. Most of us, particularly in a beta, are on the game a lot. It is mostly a waiting game to get troops going. Having different sped servers might allow you to appeal to a wider audience.

The current pace is extremely fast to 16 and then ... dog slow. Maybe tweaking the resource rates and quest rewards could ease the player into the typically pace of the game. I was completing a quest every 10-15 minutes until 16. Now I have been working on the quest for 2 days trying to get enough troops and experience.

Something like 5 min, 10 min, 20 min .. etc. The sweet spot will be tough to find, but the shift in speed at 16 is a hard jolt.
