More information on gold needed in tutorial.

I see it happening far too often, higher players effectively scamming lower ones out of their coins for beginner goods, because the system does not adequately impress upon new players that the coins you start off with have to ultimately last you until level 23. It's really a shame that these new players are unknowingly putting themselves at a disadvantage later on.

Changes could be made in the text and depth of the tutorial quests, or otherwise the gold could be withheld until level 17 and awarded then with an explanation of its uses and importance.

its not so much the game's fault for that, its the newer player's lack of understanding of the barter system people are using now..

i have seen some really outlandish offers for stuff.. 100g for 100 water to name a few. only by giving the player understanding of how much value some items ultimately have.. can you avoid them getting scammed.

I think one thing you could do is just tell new players that gold is in short supply until you unlock the mines. That at least could help!

After playing a few casual online games you begin to realize there is always that one limited item that you should not use up.

The trick is figuring out which item that is so you don't throw it away needlessly.

I've made the same mistake starting several different games (should know better by now.....) and the game is ultimately more
'challenging' without an adequate supply of that item.

If it's a halfway decent game that keeps my interest, I usually stick around and tough it out.
But if I can't really enjoy grinding through the lower levels after my mistake, I end up playing less and less
until one day I realize it's been weeks since I even got on.

Every tutorial needs to point out the important facts of the game - not just how to play it.
Many game neglect this same point. And lose beginning players before they even have a chance to hook them.

This game (and many others) even lack basic info in many key areas of game play.
(like what do all those building in the Architect tab of the Trader do - Silo: Place a Silo - tnx guys!)
Developers need to make sure all information and descriptions have been fully filled out.
And that is part of testing. Before opening the game for general play.

Players shouldn't have to scour the Forums to find information that should be included in the game to begin with.
The Forums should be a place you go to get tips and tricks to better play the game or speed up your advancement.

(and please don't wave the Beta white flag - have you noticed? ALL online/Facebook games are Beta - plausible deniability.....)

I don't disagree with your points. New players do need to be warned that some resources are precious and need to be reserved. With that said, this game isn't a single player game. The game assumes that by level 17, you are communicating with the community. It encourages this with having you swap buffs.
Folks already complain the the tutorial is too long. To increase it would cause more players to quit out of disinterest. Most folks come to a game not wanting to read or learn anything, they want to figure it out as they go.
The forums is an integral part of the game, as witnessed by the link under your portrait. It is as important as any of the in-game elements, and should be used to give more information on how things work. Tutorials need to be quick and concise. The community is expected to fill in where the tutorials leave off.

I agree with what LT says here... she explained it exactly how I would. The community, forums and the game are all to be used to help you succeed here on CEO
