Can't we just toss some poisoned meat over the fences for those dogs to eat? Maybe dose them with Ex-lax so they have other things of concern...You would think that Archers would have some success against the dogs while the dogs are doing their "business"...who ever said war is pretty?

I think the point is that the DOGS attack the RECRUITS first (not the other way around). So the recruits still get the dogs in the first wave.

I found 200 recruits works well if you produce a lot of swords. You may lose the first battle but its not like the enemies you have killed respawn. Just send more recruits when you can build them. 2 waves should clear any camp without a boss, including hard bandit camps.

I approached the problem of dogs from a different perspective. An army of recruits takes two days to build, at the pace of 100 new people made each day. If you lose your first force of 200 recruits and most of your second taking a camp then your looking at four days to rebuild those armies. When I face a camp with 60 or less dogs in it, I send in 60 Calvary. These cavalry take out the dogs and leave the archers vulnerable to my remaining Calvary for the second attack.

Lets look at a mock battle against 70 Thugs, 60 Dogs and 70 Rangers

    First attack I send in 60 Horses who average 7.5 damage each, 60 X 7.5 = 450
That sacrifice of 60 Horses took out every dog and 5 to 15 Rangers.
It will take me two days to replace those horses, but during that time I will also be making 140 other soldiers.

Second attack I send in 80 Horses ( had 20 in reserve ) 50 Recruits 20 Militia and 50 Bowmen
The horse will take out at least 50 of their Rangers right off the bat.
My recruits and Militia absorb the retaliation and attack with the bowmen to finish the enemy off.
Anything that survives will be finish by the Horses at the beginning of the next round.

My losses on the second round, maybe 50 recruits and 20 militia ...maybe.

Total loses for taking out a enemy Medium camp 50 Recruits, 20 militia, 60 horses. As opposed to nearly 400 recruits.

Horse take grain and water to produce, two of the cheapest thing to make in this game.

I still don't get the concept of 2 wave attack.. How do I send the first wave (just to take the dogs out) without getting my general killed?!

If I send a general with say 60+ recruits to take out 60 dogs, when all dogs and recruits are dead, wouldn't the thugs kill my general?! Am I supposed to retreat before my general is killed in the middle of the battle?! (If yes, how do I know when that is?).. Or would my general retreat automatically when all recruits are dead?

Your General doesn't get killed, just wounded when he loses. For a normal General that means a recovery time of 4 hours. He will retreat once all of the troops in his command are killed.
There are three classes of intellects: one which comprehends by itself; another which appreciates what others comprehend; and a third which neither comprehends by itself nor by the showing of others; the first is the most excellent, the second is good, and the third is useless. - Niccolò Machiavelli
