What would you guys think of holiday events? As an example say that on Halloween hoards of zombies suddenly appear in cursed burial grounds throughout your land. This would offer a fun challenge.
Any thoughts on this? Or other types of events?

I am not entirely sure on specifics but a game like this might do some holiday events.
I like the idea of events in general. It makes the world seem more alive and keeps a game interesting. I don't think they necessarily have to be tied to holidays.

For christmas time I think the odvious choice would be Christmas Tree Spawns added to the map that can be harvested and the lumber used to construct holiday lodges (which produces hot cocoa) which can be used to apply a 1 hour buff for double production speed. Lame idea I know, but would be a great way to add some holiday cheer around the ol' barren landscape. Maybe also have it snowy out, adding seasons to the game would be pretty sweet.

For Chanukkah, there could be special limited edition buffs that are only available each year at that time, and only show up when given by friends. They could sparkle blue instead of the gold and could be +1x rather than +.5x during those days.
