    [Tool] Online resource calculator ("CEO - Economy")

    Hi there,

    So about a week ago I thought we seriously lack a proper resource calculator. I had some spare time and I really wanted to test one new technology - Google App Engine. It basically allows you to run a web application in Google's cloud.

    Enough with the tech talk

    Here's the link: http://ceo-economy.appspot.com.

    The main idea is to allow users to:
    1. enter their buildings' REAL times
    2. automatically do the math and display stats
    3. save and load the data from and to the server

    The app is still in development, but the basic functionality is in place. I plan to speed up graphics (it may load slow for the first time) and add more statistics (like for every resource, which buildings are contributing to the output). But I think now is the best time to ask for your opinion.

    So... what do you think? What should I add or improve?

    Here's a draft of my "to-do" list:
    • add all buildings and resources (would be great if you could post here missing data, I'm still only 18 lvl in-game )
    • add icons showing level/sleep/buff of a building
    • add possibility to move buildings and arrange them in any order
    • more detailed resource statistics

    BTW: I tested the app on Firefox 3, Chrome 13. I also did a basic test on IE8. Let me know about any issues with browser compatibility!

    Note: I will be on holidays till 25th August. I'll read any messages when I get back home and will continue developing the app to suit your needs

    if you have google toolbar to translate this is good for base production times

    using the level field is a great way to do quantity of buildings like i have 6 wells at 3:28 so i make one well level 7 with time 3:28 However it would be nice to have a quantity button so it will add to the total buildings for easy total checks

    I put my 3 Coal mines on but my coal produced is still 0

    Once the rest of the advanced buildings are in it will be useful for me right now sticking to what i got. i did upload all my building info's though. In case you don't have the translator toolbar.

    Iron mine
    Production time: 6min
    Consumes 1 iron deposits per cycle and stage of development.
    Produces 1 iron per cycle and stage of development.

    Coal mine
    Production time: 1min 30sec
    Consumes one set of the coal mine and expansion stage per cycle.
    Produces 1 coal per cycle and stage of development.

    Iron weaponsmith
    Production time: 12min
    Consumes 2 Iron and 8 Coal per cycle and stage of development.
    Produces 1 Iron Sword per cycle and stage of development.

    Stable
    Production time: 6 minutes
    Consumes 2 wheat 4 water per cycle and stage of development.
    Produces 1 per cycle and stage of development.

    Longbowmaker
    Production time: 24min
    Consumes 16 Hardwood Logs per cycle and stage of development.
    Produces 1 Longbow per cycle and stage of development.

    Hunter
    Production time: 6 min
    1 wild resources consumed per cycle and stage of development.
    Produces 1 meat per cycle and stage of development.

    Butcher
    Production time: 12min
    Consumes 4 meat per cycle and stage of development.
    Produces 1 Sausage per cycle and stage of development.

    About the quantity field: the idea is to have one icon of a building for every real building in-game. That way you can activate/deactivate and buff/debuff each building separately.
    I could add an option to add more than one building at once. Something like "create X new buildings".

    Update:
    I have uploaded a newer version with all advanced buildings and all advanced resources.
    Bad news is that I'm not sure about Google App Engine quotas per application. It looks like saving building eats a lot of Google's resources. So something might stop working in the near future But I'll try to refactor and optimize the saving action.

    It will definitely serve more people that way I simply need to observe server statistics and then I will know how Google calculates their quotas.

    Deep wells are not showing up as producing water

    I've added Deep Well info. I've also edited the first post to show a few screenshots

    I've also checked the usage statistics and it seems it was a false alarm yesterday. Google handles it really well and the app can easily handle a lot more users per day

    I'll be leaving for holidays tomorrow, so I'll continue working on this app when I'm back. See you!
