    Whats the point of...

Gold, besides building the Guild Hall at Level 17, what else could I do with it? Perhaps trade for items I need?
    >> Idea: Should be able to save enough gold to buy Gems with it or get rid of Gems and just use gold only.

Branch Office, so I can trade with other players, my question is, do they need one to trade back or as long as one of us has it?
    >> Idea: When sending a "gift" you should be able to send your own supplies AND that of "store gem bought ones"

Roads, why don't they do anything for the economy? Roads in real life enables us to transport things faster to places. Should be the same way here.
    >> Idea: Remain free, they help speed up the time that it takes to acquire supplies and drop them off at the Store House even if its 20%.

    Just a few for now.

As for the Branch Office question, both players need to have for trading. For the others, still beta so will see what's in store sometime soon hopefully.

well to upgrade some buildings you need gold so that's probably one reason.

Gold can be used for trading, hiring help like Generals, Explorers and Geologist.
Roads, in this case would be problematic in term of calculations to improve every single settlers walking speed, so it is pretty much for aesthetic.

I however, would prefer slicing training time on settlers when you upgrade the mayor house.

If anything, increasing movement time with roads would be a bad thing since it would very easily throw off production times due to travel. That said, I'd like to see bridges implemented, with a cost attached in the form of resources. There are just some areas that are rather difficult to exploit their limitations of and I think bridges would really help since they'd be able to cross them and get to a closer storehouse without having to build one for a very small space.

    Gold is used:

    - to purchase a General, Explorer or Geologist from the Tavern. The price goes up after purchasing one. As an example, after acquiring your second specialist, the price of the third is as follows: General - 500 / Explorer - 1600 / Geologist - 600.

    - for upgrading buildings. Examples: Mayor's house from level 2 to 3 costs 400 gold & 450 marble (gain: major storage increase / new building design & color;blue). Fir Wood Cutter (& Forrester & Fisher & Bakery & Brewery & Mason & others) from level 3 to 4 costs 500 gold & 300 marble.

    - to build a Guild house (gain: a nice grand building, prestige, helpful friends/camaraderie, exclusive Guild chat tab, and possibly more to come; player vs player had been hinted). It costs 5000 HW Planks, 5000 Marble & 3000 gold (ouch!). Due to the prohibitive costs, friends generally band together and pool their resources to build one. Another feature of joining a guild is the use of the guild button (filter located in the friends list). Because of a bug, I was able to see a different color (green) appearing at the bottom of their avatar where the level number is located.

    - to purchase a Counterfeit membership (Cm) for 400 gold from the Trader (aka Shop). A new Guild house comes with 15 (I think) maximum membership; may grant more if upgraded. To get around this maximum, new members may be required to buy the Cm which must be gifted to the Guild leader (whose island houses the Guild House). The Guild leader can then use the Cm to increase the membership maximum by 1, allowing for an invite to be sent (this is the part where you sweat and hope the invite goes to you :-p).

    - to trade for other commodities. As it takes a considerable amount of resources to produce and is needed for upgrades, it is one of the highly sought after trade items. Warnings of trading gold before you can produce it have been posted in the forum as I'm sure you have read.

The Branch Office enables trade between players (Trade Tab). Just like the Provisions House, Barracks and Tavern, only one Branch Office can be built on the island (option is grayed out from the menu) and is best to be built away from Mayor's house and storehouses (does not need resource to transport from/to). I find this building the most unusual of all. Its design appears to be a cross between a noble residence and a castle with lots of windows and supposedly 8 spires (zoom in and only 7 are visible / where's the 8th?). Currently, its one feature/property is to tear it down (like a Wheatfield). I like this building and speculate that it would play a role in the (coming soon) scale to the right of the Star menu. At least one female settler works there on account of the flower boxes outside the windows in the 3rd floor. One of these days, she'll come out and give me a flying kiss (or a finger).

    Roads are used:

    - to plan out building placement. I use a wheatfield to determine where a building can be built (turns yellow if OK or black if not). Roads are then applied to create adjacent squares. I favor the nine square design (like tic-tac-toe), building the storehouse in the middle. This minimizes the overall production time (Storehouse to Workyard and back - travel time) of all production buildings built around it. Because the island is the home of endangered bushes, shrubs, rocks and other artistic impediments (also known as debris), the Preservation Society has declared them off limits and applied super adhesive on each one of them. Currently, there is no way of removing these natural wonders and thus, structures cannot be built on top of them (only adjacent). This provides a challenge in planning the building layout. Roads, in the form of erase-able squares can be built to aid the structure dyslexic (like me). I can't wait for the coming of the bulldozer.

    - for design. Visit your friends. Some are surprisingly artistic and are able to express beauty (or inner dementia) through the placement of roads. You never know, the next greatest Nazca line designer is here playing with us (probably trading fish for 400 gold). This is also a game of patience and patience has a cousin called boredom. Players have been known to doodle their names, initials, body parts on their island. Graffiti plays a role in this game. As long as it's not in my neighborhood, we have no problem.

    Cool Beans!
