How do I equip my men so I can assign them to the general?
You train units at the barracks. Make sure you have at least 1 free settler, you will also need a brewery and a bronze weaponsmith. You need 5 beer and 10 bronze swords to go with that free settler and they get combined at the barracks into a recruit that you would then be able to assign to a general.
